After owning the AT&T One X(L), I know well that feeling of being screwed. What this announcement amounts to is an unofficial declaration by HTC that they don't intend to support their devices for even the duration of a contract. If you get a year, count yourself lucky. Their behavior with the One X(L) is precisely why I won't buy another HTC product. I simply don't trust them. The GS3 was dropped to 99¢ ...
Re: Has anyone owned an HTC Device and not felled screwed?
While I love my XDA homies, they tend to pride themselves on sometimes half-@$$, barely operating phones. To an XDA-phile, random reboots are considered "normal." Even the most solid of custom roms usually have bugs. I'm running CM10.3 right now because CM11 isn't stable enough on my phone. And even CM 10.3 isn't 100% compatible. I get weird hidden sender messages all the time. Only to discover it's an actual text that ...
Re: Has anyone owned an HTC Device and not felled screwed?
With its completely locked down bootloader, the One was a bitch to root if you didn't get one with the earliest bootloader (1.8, I think it was). The trade was that a LARGE percentage of those early ones were broken (wifi antenna). Hell, even cyanogenmod stopped bothering to develop for it.
Re: MOGA PRO + Note 3 = Retro & current gaming heaven
I copied and pasted your link but nothing comes up. what am I missing?
Re: Where have I seen this before? LoL
If you're rooted, you already have hotspot. But that's not a feature I care about. My home Wi-Fi is plenty fast. But they did raise some of their Mobile Share prices, while ELIMINATING ALTOGETHER other plans. You can ONLY get Mobile Share now (unless you're grandfathered), an operator told me earlier today.
It's even more expensive
for me than their old pricing plans. Me & an AT&T operator did the math today. C-Net sorta agrees:

Re: Where have I seen this before? LoL
Meh. That's still no incentive to switch from my granddaddy unlimited, despite their draconian throttles. And, if I'm reading this right, you only get the $15 discount if you're on Mobile Share, correct?
Re: Where have I seen this before? LoL
Wait. Did they jack up the cost of adding a device to a Mobile Share plan? It was only $30-35 a month or two ago, wasn't it?
A 15:1 ratio?!?
The article states it takes 12 to 15 2.5 Ghz towers to equal the coverage of one 700 mhz tower. That doesn't sound fiscally plausible.
Re: Sweet...
which policy are you referring to?
Re: Hunh? what?
Yeah that's kinda what I thought. Well the day come when we in the States dint get dumbed-down, half-assed versions of their international counterparts?
Hunh? what?
If I'm remembering this wrongly, please correct me, but I thought the One wasn't gonna be carrier-restricted (loaded with bloat & delay upon delay of updates) like the One X and literally every other Android phone. Wasn't that one of its selling points? Why is only the Sprint version getting it?
looks
Personally, I think all the of these look less gawdy than the actual One, which looks like it was made from a soda can. I can't stress enough how much I dislike the appearance of the One vs the One X. The white Desire 601 looks beautiful. But did I blink? I couldn't find anything about memory or processor in the article.
Re: Poor HTC
Yeah, I'm gonna totally disagree on the looks of the One. It reminds me strongly of the iPhone 5's front-end with a back-end that feels like my thermos. ugh. And sales are most definitely not strong, as Wal-Mart discounted it by $50 within a month of it's coming out. At one point, one retailer I was at had it and the GS3 at the same price point. That's sad.
Poor HTC
I feel so bad for them. They came out with an effing BEAUTIFUL phone in the One X (and One XL here stateside), but their software was half-assed and the hardware limitations (1gb of RAM was on the verge of being obsolete even at that point) caused serious lag after the carriers touched it. And the audio/speakers were awesome! I thought the One X was/is the best looking phone ever! I just wish they'd given more concern to the ...
Re: So what?
Thank you. And that is why Google doesn't make apps for WP8.
Re: If Google made a YouTube app for W8...
That's silly. The inverse logic that Google would counter with is: if anybody owned a Windows Phone, maybe we would divert resources to making one. In the meantime, if the app does what Google claims it's a clear violation of copyright laws as well. Open. Shut.
Re: The states get a worse processor than the international ?
AT&T had the gs3 refurbished for $30! Hope it's up to its hype. I can't use Navigator or Smart Truck on my phone now. One of HTC's "features" (their words not mine) is they kill apps for you so they can't run in the background. Nav only works in 2d mode now. Common problem on One X, rooted or otherwise. I'm really hoping I like the gs3.
At least they're honest?
They're not going to support your phone for the life of the contract. So...why would anyone with a brain buy one?
Re: Well that just sucks
They bring a lot on themselves. The One X was a screwjob to consumers, with its' crippling of multitasking, early model hardware problems, and complete lack of support. My GS3 comes in today. Hope I'm happy with it.
The states get a worse processor than the international ?
Why are the States getting a $#;++;er processor than the international version? Did the s3 suffer this fate too? This reminds me of the HTC One X(L) for AT&T. I bought it (the X) because of the RAVE reviews here and elsewhere, and it's been a major disappointment from day 1. Will Samsung release an octacore version in 6 months ala the One X+, thereby screwing consumers who bought their "flagship" device (hello HTC!)? Nah. I'm too burnt by ...
Re: Took them long enough
LOL. Everything IS running great on my phone now...except Google Maps. It's broken. Think I got a bad install. I gotta take it to a AT&T service center to have it reflashed.
Took them long enough
But, it's nice to have it. Noticeably smoother UI, but according to the built-in Task Manager and running apps list, I'm down 50 MB of RAM. This update was only change. I check it regularly throughout the day. I wonder how consuming more RAM has led to a quicker, smoother experience?
Imagine that
Sales decline when you gain a reputation for building half-@$$ hardware. Like my HTC One X for AT&T, a "flagship" device, which debuted with tons of hardware problems (wifi), and STILL no JB update, and a whopping 10 gb of available storage! But you pull a bait and switch, and release a jacked-up version (One X) 6 months later!
Re: Sprint must hate windows
How is it a shame? No one wants to buy a Windows phone. They're gawdy. Proven? Phonescoop just linked an article a few weeks ago stating Google won't even bother making apps for it (www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=11 642 ), because no one's using it. I can't wait to see what Mozilla comes up with. MORE open source is good, not bad. Unfortunately, since Mozilla is all about an open internet, AT&T would never adopt their phone, unless they could lock the bootloader, OS, ...
Re: Curious
Personally, I haven't seen anything from Gorilla Glass to impress me in relation to impact resistance: a friend dropped his iPhone 4S and it shattered like, well, glass. I've dropped 2 HTC phones--Inspire and a One X--from about 3 feet (bumped off a bench). Both shattered. Both landed on their backs, do the screen wasn't even the point of impact. Scratch resistant, maybe (I don't put keys and my phone in the same pocket), but I've really been disappointed ...
Re: What did you expect?
I dunno. I guess I believed Schmidt when he said last year that they were going to produce their own phone and "show Apple how it's done." I think that was Eric. Either way, I just thought that was their game plan.
So, what exactly are they keeping besides the patents?
They seem to be shuttering EVERY piece and plant of Motorola. Are they still planning on making phones, or are they just going to license the patents and slap the name on some half@$$ LG POS?
Re: 256kbps?
LOL I don't know anyone on boost.
Re: As goes Boost, goes Sprint...
this can be deleted. I edited my original reply.
Re: As goes Boost, goes Sprint...
That's a nice attitude. We have a right to speak our thoughts, opinions, and feelings on the topic. If you're that sick of it, maybe you should stop reading forums, message boards, newspapers, or anything else. No one's forcing you to.
Re: As goes Boost, goes Sprint...
What's amusing to me is, when AT&T throttled its "top 5%" I would hit 20 gb before I got throttled. Now I'm throttled at 5.
As goes Boost, goes Sprint...
Look for Sprint to start throttling soon, right? So, if their throttle back is 256 kbps, what's AT&T's? I don't remember.
Re: Give 'em a Boost..
What constitutes abuse of unlimited? Rhetorical. Don't bother answering. We've had this fight on Phonescoop a thousand times since AT&T first started throttling. Its always have consumers & people under 40 vs sales trolls & people who miss the days when their BlackBerry was a status symbol.
I should've gotten it instead
instead of the increasingly disappointing HTC One X
Re: It goes back to the monopoly days
...it was rhetorical, guys. But, thanks, T Bone, for the history lesson. I liked your response.
Does AT&T not know who to pay off?
Seems like the FCC really doesn't like them. Maybe they should've donated more to Barry's reelection fund.
Re: Does anyone actually use Facetime?
If you had family across the country or further, you'd think differently I'd wager. As a trucker, I use Tango to say goodnight to my daughter. And I don't hold the phone "up to my face." (???)
Re: AT&T might...
Personally, I don't think they should be forced to allow FT over cellular. But, isn't it free on their mobile share plans? I mean, don't they not charge data usage on it?
Re: Freedom to switch
Right. This isn't like the throttling unlimited customers argument from months back. They should be able to utilize their network how they want (without violating customer agreements). If we don't like it, we should switch. There's 2 companies offering unlimited now.
