What a Disappointment with a capital "D"

Sep 1, 2004 by Vzwguya670

Please do not buy this phone...Motorola has come out with yet another worthless phone. I have no good remarks about this phone. This phone was supposed to be awesome and it really doesn't impress me at all. The camera is horrible, the display is horrible the outside display is worthless, and its an ugly, ugly phone. I even heard Verizon has stopped selling it because of all the trouble it has given customers. I know 3 people that have bought this phone and have since return it. Motorola needs to pay attention to Samsung & LG because they know how to make a decent phone. The camera may say 1.2 mega-pixels but it takes such awful picture it should say 1.2 awful pixels. This phone is JUNK! Verizon is great and they will do something about it if they haven't already. Motorola on the other hand is just crazy to release such an awful phone. Tri-band, why? FCC has said good-bye to analog signal sometime in 2005 boy Motorola...still in the dark ages. The Menu on this phone is very ancient, come on Motorola get with the program spend a little money and change things up some including you're horrible charging ports. "Unable to Charge" this phone right out in the trash. People, please don't waste your time or money on this garbage.

Pros: NONE
Cons: EVERYTHING

Terrible Ear Piece

Aug 17, 2004 by astravitz

I waited and waited for this phone. What a complete waste of time. People on this board seem to get so caught up on the features and forget that it's just a phone. The bottom line is that the design of this phones ear piece is terrible. I tested this phone out and couldn't believe that you have to perfectly center your ear in order to hear anything. If your off by a 1/4 of an inch then your out of luck.

I guess you could use an ear piece all the time or the speaker phone feature, but it just seemed wrong that Motorola would design a phone with an ear speaker that couldn't be heard. Also, the phone is rather large in size, the buttons did seem easy to press. Although I'm not sure why they covered the buttons in cheap plastic, it's like a vinyl covering of some sort.

The sound quality was decent, but not the best available, which is why I ended up getting the Samsung A670. The Samsung is unbelievable as far as sound quality. It is truly the first mobile phone that sounds better then a land line. I don't know how Samsung did it but Motorola should take note and next time create a phone that can be used for TALKING not playing games and gaggets.

V710 Not Looking Good

Aug 6, 2004 by snds2good

Well I've been waiting for a bluetooth phone from Verizon for a while now, And I'm excited to finally get this one today! I'm sure the features and quality are probably on par or better than most other phones in it's class. But the only reason I upgraded to this phone is so I could sync it to my address book on my OSX mac with bluetooth. So I wouldn't need to constantly manually update my cell phone with new numbers... It doesn't look like the 710 supports this activity... Doesn't say it can do it with windows either, Thus my low review score. Motorolla blows it for not implementing the most useful bluetooth feature. Now I must participate in the most loathsome practice of copying my address book from one phone to another.....manually.........Shoot me now.....
Vacuums Poop in my book....

Overall I've had a pretty good experience with this phone right now. I generally find that I find use for much of the phone and all of its features.

Pros
* Huge screen, good for WAP (Mobile Web) 2.0 which loads to non-WAP websites to some extent.
* Speakerphone is nice. Finally good service, with a speakerphone (unlike nextel).
* Voice recognition is fantastic. Would be better if you could use it when the lid is closed.
* Pictures are nice if you aren't looking for real quality.
* external memory support and ability to bring MP3s in.
* decent battery life for a Motorola phone
* speakerphone gives another option for handsfree.
* sounds good for the most part.
* bluetooth headsets, and bluetooth once its no longer crippled.

Cons
* Display smudges easily and takes a lot of cleaning with a good cloth to keep nice
* Speakerphone doesn't seem to be as "full" duplex as you would think. I find that I get talked over a lot, but that could just be people not wanting me to speak
* Sync with MPT is acceptable, but not exemplary. I found that you are limited to 3 phone entries and 1 email via sync, but you can add more afterwords
* Verizon doesn't offer a lot yet with WAP 2.0 websites and GIN for this phone. Know some WAP bookmarks if you expect to leverage everything you used to use in WAP 1.0 (I WANT MY MOVIE LISTINGS).
* Bad phone clip, no swivel, and type of case makes prone to smudging and scratching and thus not a phone to put in your pocket.
* MPT doesn't let you change anything except for names and calendar (cannot pull pictures off the phone without pix messaging or a transflash card)
* bluetooth crippled makes it ineffective for syncing or using as a modem.
* no protection for the camera lens

Pretty Nice

Well I like all of the features of the phone and it is priced decently for a phone that can do this much.

Pros-
Hi res photos
nice screen
loud ringers
nice speakerphone
Bluetooth
cool wallpapers
mp3 ringers
transflash slot

cons-
I hate the interface, its too complicated even for simple tasks
the pics are tiny on the phone, they make lousy wallpapers
it's unreliable. I had to take it back after a couple days cause it would only stay on if it was connected to the charger.
should have a data cable for this price

Well, it could be a great phone because all of the cons are minor except its reliability. we'll see.

My Perception of this phone

Aug 5, 2004 by AnxiousOne

I purchased this phone last friday. It was the only v710 available to be sold at Radio Shack in my neighborhood.

After using it for almost a week, I like this phone a lot. I've been a motorola customer for a while now. The menu is similar to other models with the exception of added features. I haven't used the Bluetooth feature yet. The speakerphone is awesome. The other party had no problem hearing me. :) Overall,it's a great phone.

In Conclusion, no phone is perfect, there will always be glitches. That's why we have the option of updating the software on any phone. Thus far, no bugs.

Good day. :)

AWFUL Indoor Pictures, Low Volume, Great Bluetooth and Speakerphone

Aug 15, 2004 by Brian C.

I really want to love this phone because of its extensive feature set, but two significant issues (terrible indoor pictures and low handset volume)with it are making me consider whether I should return it.

Pros:

I love the bluetooth headset functionality and the speaker-phone.

The internal color screen is also very clear and of a high resolution.

The large external color display is useful for easily seeing incoming calls.

Pictures in bright sunlight are quite good.

Cons:

The quality of indoor pictures from the camera is absolutely AWFUL!! I exchanged my first V710 for another thinking I must have received one with a defective camera, but the pictures are equally poor on the new one. Indoor pictures are very grainy and become basically black and white without any color detail (no matter which exposure setting I choose on the phone and no matter whether I use the "flash") Is this a problem for most people or did I get another defective phone? My old Sanyo 8100 (a 1 and a half year old Sprint phone) takes far better indoor pictures and its camera resolution is one quarter that of the v710's.

The handset volume is low (and this makes the phone hard to hear at times on the streets of Manhattan). I have heard that Motorola phones sometimes have handset volume issues Again, my Sanyo was much better in this regard. It is not so much of an issue when I use the bluetooth headset.
