Great Reception & Customizable

Aug 3, 2004 by robersh

Pulls signals out of NOWHERE in mountains, etc. Has forced analog mode. Speakerphone VERY strong (comp. to Nokia 6610). Bluetooth and voice dialing are strong. Command/key responsiveness very quick. Program shortcuts easily.

Having been a Nokia user for the past 6 years and 5 models....feels like the right decision on the V710.

This phone performed flawless in mountain & spotty signal terrain - making what is one to none bars on other phones, into 2 bars and excellent convorsation quality. I'll TAKE the long antennae ;-)

Can't say good bye...

Yes, it has taken me over the 15 days allowed by VW to discover what most people have in 1 or 2 days.... No Blue-Tooth capability beyond the ear-piece... GREAT. When I called the store, the same people who told me that I would be able to sync wirelessly with my PC when I walked to the counter and also told me to mail my rebate coupon before November, etc... the same people told me it was too late. If the phone was broken I could take advantage of the 1 year warrantee, blah, blah.... the lack of Blue-Tooth functionality did not qualify as a damage. I don't want it now, I'd rather go to another service that allows technology to serve their costumers, ie, TMobile.. just to mention one.
The more I read the reviews here and in other websites the angrier I feel with the bad business practice that Verizon Wireless is imposing upon us. Do they know that people are unhappy?
Pros: Great Motorola technology and design.

Not Perfect - But Only Gane in Town

Had it for a couple of days. No, its not the greatest end all to be all of cell phones. No phone is. Unfortunately, with all the hype about the v710 expectations were way overblown. No phone could live up to it. That said, it is definitely a keeper for me. You should know that the one and only purpose of a phone for me is making and receiving calls.

Why I'll be keeping it? It really delivers on all the features I personally want in a phone. No current VZW phone offers all of these:

- Analog Capability. Most VZW phones don't have this
anymore. But, I like having it. I'm in NYC. On 9/11
and during the power blackout last year analog worked
digital didn't. So, twice I was "saved" by having a phone
with analog. Most people I saw weren't as lucky. Enough
said. In a real emergency it really delivered! Based on
my two real life experiences I'll always have analog till
2008 when they do away with it supposedly.

- Bluetooth. Yeah I know its not as robust as people want.
But, the wireless headset is great. There's no going
back. Perhaps the next firmware upgrade will improve
the other capabilities.

- Speakerphone. Great feature! Should be on all phones.

- Form factor. Best since my beloved StarTac (the world's
best cellphone IMHO.) Comfortable to hold. Nice feel.

- RF/Reception!! Last but certainly not least this phone
really sounds great and holds calls.

What I Could Care Less About...

- The camera/video capabilities. I already have a digital
camera. In fact, I wish this phone didn't have one. Could
save weight and maybe reduce the size a bit.

- Transflash. Nice bell and whistle. Maybe I'll play with it
someday.

- Web access. Just not a big deal for me as of yet.

I'm looking for a great phone not a "Swiss Army Knife." For me, this phone really delivers the goods more so than any phone in VZWs current line-up. That's why its a keeper!

Awesome phone, good job Moto!

Pro's: Nice big internal color screen, the build quality is great, the RF is way better than my old T730, the menu's are easy to use, and my favorite Obeymemoto you can dial numbers by just pressing one button and talking into the phone, and of course speakerphone is good.

Con's: The picture quality is poor, the only way to transfer MP3 is by software (that I know of)

Overall this phone is awesome, and will be even more when a new firmware is released.

meh

This phone was completely mediocre.

The sound is good, when you're on the phone it isn't as loud as you would like it at times.

The camera isn't good at all, if you're not outside the picture isn't clear. Sure, it has a flash, but the flash doesn't help much.

Features are nice, antenna actually helps reception.

Motorola V710

This phone is nice in apperance and funtionality, however the picture and video recorder could use some help. There are definitely better quality phones through Verizon Wireless ( which is my carrier: the best) that have better quality picture/video recorders. The Bluetooth is very nice for heavy talkers that love having both hands free.Just make sure you go with Motorola's Brand HS810 instead of the HS820 thats also made by Motorola, because the HS820 is a always on mode thats keeps you from using the phone in regualr mode talking. The HS810 is better because once its linked up with the phone, with the bulit in boom, you can connect and disconnect easily without it always being on like the HS820. With that said, all other features of the phone are great, execpt the picture/video recorder.

V710 Not what it was sold as!!!

I purchased my phone on Dec 5th from A Telus store in Ontario after being with Fido for over a year. I wanted to see all the BLuetooth phones they offered and the only one was the V710 by Motorola. The ONLY feature I was most interested was Bluetooth and asked I if this phone would be able to connect to my Apple Powerbook and PDA as well as all the other features it offers.

I was told yes that it would and that I wouldn't need any other accecories to do this and there was included software with the phone. Never was I told about VZN dsiabling most of the important features in the phone .
I also was not told about a free promotion for the first 710 customers to get a free bluetooth headset I had to find that on my own while researching the phones lack of Bluetooth features.

Every sales person I spoke with since has giving me misleading and conflicting info as well as the manager of the store who knew more but was only just aware 2 days before my call of some of the lack of features with this phone.

I left my current provider Fido to switch to Telus and sign a 3 year contract which my 30 day refund policy only applies for the return of the phone but I'm stil under contract. ANd I handed in my old Motorolla Phone so even if I could return it and get my money back I am still out a phone and they can't offer me an exchange because they have no other Bluetooth phones. I have until Jan 5th before my 30 days runs out.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

PRO's
Big Screen,Big Buttons

CONS:Only Bluetooth Wireless headset and some calender info .
No other Bluetooth feature active.
1.3 MP camera Sucks
BAttery life 1-2 days if that . I always have to carry my charger with me.
Little Support or custumer service for this model phone.

Not disappointed

I ordered the V710 before my son pointed out this web site and the disappointing reviews. It was too late to cancel the order so I decided to try the phone. So far not many of the complaints have proven to be accurate by my judgment. I have not found anything about the display or keyboard to be a unacceptable. Sunlight is always a problem with a light emitting display so this should not be a surprise to anyone. The biggest concern I had was the Bluetooth link up with the new car I am planning to buy. I went by the Acura dealer and tried the phone with a 2005 MDX. It worked without a problem. Whatever Bluetooth problems there are with this phone, I have not found them yet. I admit that I work in the wireless industry (semiconductor manufacturing) but I think that this makes me even more demanding of a phones performance. So far this phone had not disappointed me in any area.

Do not see what the problem really is?

I do not see what everyone is talking about with the crippled features. I have a bluetooth enabled laptop and I am able to sync the phone with my laptop. The headset works wonders for me, and the speaker phone is very loud. The only reason I cannot give this phone a 5 is becuase the battery life sucks. If you can charge your phone everynight, you should be ok most of the time. But if you need a phone that requires at least 2 days worth of battery, you have no chance with this phone. The display is great, and the wallpapers are really nice.

In summation, I would get this phone, and I cannot see where the bluetooth is crippled except in PDA's, where you can still buy the cable for it.

I hated it!

I love my camera phone! So one of the reasons I wanted the V710 was because the camera was supposed to be better. The flash is a joke! It is a flash light, not a camera flash. The pictures in the house were just blobs of white and blue noise. The pics were worse than the tiny keychain camera I have. The video was a little better but not much. Good pics outside in natural light but often blurry. No settings to improve these either. The voice dial feature would be so low I could not hear the commands. When speaking on the phone I was told I cut in and out a lot even though I was sitting still in the house not moving around. Sometimes the volume would all but cut out when on the phone so I could not hear the other person at all. Thought the phone would do things that I could not get it to do and tech support was non-existent. Over all I thought it was the worst phone I have ever used and sent it back after owning it for one day! VZW cs themselves told me many people are returning them and that there are even more problems with the construction of the phone. Good luck if you get this phone!
