Re: Roaming on AT&T towers??
there is no word on whether we will be able to roam on AT&T before the BUYOUT!!!!
everything is going good as far as i have seen the FCC and everything has approved it... and should be done by the end of this year!!!
AT&T is using Cingulars towers, however they are paying for it, they aren't just getting it free, however i feel cingular isn't charging them much, becaues they have to make it legal so they have to charge them something, but not designated amount
don't know about the east coast!!
On another note.
we got word that Cingular should have 100% of it's coverage up to GSM by the end of July and that markets have already started going to EDGE and that the following markets should have it within the year or early 2006....
WCDMA vs. CDMA
Okay, so someone asked the question below in the Phone Scoop forum, but the answer belongs here... so here goes:

could you please explain the difference between cdma and wcdma. its an ongoing argument in several forums. it is my understanding that the two are similar. however wcdma is an actual 3g format, whereas cdma is actually a 2.5g format. people seem to think that because verizon currenty usses cdma that they can do a simple upgrade to wcdma. if you wouldnt mind a clarification on this would appreciated.
The short answer is: WCDMA is a whole new digital wireless technology. It has a little in common with GSM at certain levels, but not much. Likewise, it has a little in common with CDMA at other levels, but not much.
For perspective, WCDMA is related to GSM in very much the same way that TDMA and CDMA are related to AMPS (analog).
Likewise, WCDMA is related to CDMA in very much the same way that GSM is related to TDMA.
(Note for the technical and picky: in the above statements, CDMA = IS-95 and TDMA = IS-136.)
The long answer is much more complicated, as you get into the 5,000 different interpretations of the term "CDMA", etc. I'm actually planning to address some of these topics in a future article here on the site, so I'll save the in-depth explanation until then.
But back to the question - no, Verizon cannot simply "upgrade" to WCDMA. It's actually technically impossible for them at this point. It would be extremely difficult and expensive for a number of very significant reasons, but it's impossible because they simply don't have the spectrum for it. They just barely have enough to deploy EV-DO, and WCDMA requires 4x the spectrum.
Re: Good news concerning the v600

I asked Verizon a question on their website at the beginning of this month to confirm my understanding of their equipment upgrade policy (i.e. getting a new phone at the subsidized price). I asked them if it's true that you can a new phone at the subsidized price 10 months into 1 year contract or 22 months into a 2 year contract. Here's the response.
Dear Sam,
Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. We appreciate your inquiry regarding upgrade eligibility, and we are happy to assist you.
Yes, you are correct. If you have a one-year contract agreement you can upgrade equipment every 10 months at the one-year promotional price. If you have a two-year service agreement you can upgrade equipment every 22 months at the two-year promotional price.
As a reminder, we do offer an early upgrade program for existing customers. Here is how the program works.
Early upgrades will be allowed for customers who meet the following eligibility requirements:
· Be on or migrate to a current calling plan $49.99 or higher with a two-year service agreement.
· Completed at least 12 full months of service.
· Account must be current with no more than 30 days balance due at the time of upgrade.
· Requires a new two-year agreement that would reset the clock for New Every Two.
Note: Customers participating in New Every Two are eligible for an early upgrade at two-year pricing. In order to receive the New Every Two discount (up to $100.00), they must have completed 22 months since their last equipment upgrade.
As a quick reminder, you can dial #646 and send for minutes used, and #225 and send for your balance. Both calls are airtime free!
Please remember, as part of our Worry Free Guarantee your satisfaction is guaranteed on any equipment you purchase from us. Feel free to contact us again through www.VerizonWireless.com if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Kenneth
