Note that ATT is NOT suing over coverage
by Menno    Nov 3, 2009, 8:03 PM
in the Article: AT&T Sues Verizon for 'Map for That' Ads forum

This should stop all those people saying verizon is lying on their coverage maps. ATT is saying that their customers will assume that they have NO coverage, even though they will still have data/voice coverage where there is an edge network, but it will not be at 3g speeds. The maps are accurate, they are saying verizon didn't make it clear enough what the benefits of 3g are.

Exactly! AT&T fans will do anything to try and get the spotlight off of the truth. They want to talk about something that is not even in question. Go figure!

Have you ever looked at the invoice on handsets from the manufacturer? Stores dont make much on the handsets. The money is in the contract, which is why subsidizing is good for them. If people actually had to pay retail for handsets without the subsidizations, they would flip out even more. *Note, I agree that buying at retail should allow a contract free option from all carriers, and I do purchase all my phones outright so as to avoid having to renew contracts unless I want too.*

On a side note... I LOVE the phone. I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea that I'm putting the phone down. Actually quite the opposite. I really WANT this thing to work right because I think it's really something special. And the problems that I read in other reviews just dont seem to be problems to me. Almost everyone seemed to HATE the physical keyboard and the camera. I actually couldn't disagree more about the keyboard. I think it is a very good size and works quite well. And the camera is good enough for me (for a phone). If I want to enter photos in a contest or something I'll use my Nikon.

Update... I went to the Verizon store today and this is what happened. The manager told me they were going to call a technician to get a trouble ticket started. She was not going to change out the phone however. She called the technician and got a trouble ticket started but HE told her that she would have to change out the phone for a new one again so that HE could get the phone activated properly. She told me that he had to completely wipe everything off of my account, activate the account, and then put everything back on to make sure that nothing in my account was causing any sort of problem on activation. So far... no problems. I've had the phone in my hand for about 4 hours now and it hasn't power cycled once. I'm really hoping that he had more knowledge than the people at my local Verizon store and was able to activate my phone properly and that was the problem. So far so good. On a side note... I have no idea where this technician was from.

In the customer's defense if the corp stores didn't sell the phones for so damn much our customers wouldn't buy them from third party stores. Sadly since you are employeed by your respective mobile company (mine being AT&T) I am required to help the customers even if it is a complete waste of my time.

I have a WalMart right across the street from me and I have customers come in and ask why our prices are higher than theirs. Espcially on a PDA of some sort, I explain that I do the phonebook transfer, set up thier email, set their ring tones, move pictures and give a small tutorial on their phone. All of this takes some time and saves them from having to figure out how to do it themselves. If all I did was ring out the phone and had it to them, I might be cheaper too.
