Analog Modem

I know how to use my phone as a EDGE modem, but I'm not willing to play for a data plan and it costs too much to use w/o a plan.

But, I have 6,000+ rollover minutes and there are free dial-up ISPs out there that I could use. This would be perfect to use to check e-mail with my PDA or use WAP services, like Yahoo! mobile.

I have my phone paired with my PDA via BT and I setup a DUN connection that dials the ISP, it gives me either a rapid busy signal or the tones from the "cannot connect" error message w/o the words. This is the same method I used to setup my EDGE connection, but I use #99,.... whatever to connect. Any ideas?

Treo 650 Bluetooth problems...

My wife picked up a Treo about a month and a half ago and has started having Bluetooth problems. At first it worked with no problem to transfer music and images from her laptop to her phone, but lately it's been canceling every Bluetooth transfer saying the user canceled the transfer. Oftentimes it restarted the phone as well.

After a good hour on the line with Cingular's horrible customer service, she finally got them to send a replacement because they couldn't figure out the problem. She tested the replacement phone today only to discover the same problem for some reason.

She has a 1GB memory card in the phone, so there's plenty of room there. Our guess is that when doing the transfer it's trying to go onto the phone's memory rat...

I could use some advice, my contract is about to end

Hang in there, i'm far from a techno junkie 🙂

So I've been with Cingular for almost two years and just before my contract ends (in a month) my phone completely craps out on me. It was a good phone and i'll miss it but my lifestyle and career are demanding more from me since i'm always on the go.

So I decided to get a PDA device. Without doing much research I purchased the Verizon Pocket PC. Love this phone, have 5 more days to decide if I want to keep it before i'm bound by contract. The issue is that i need something more user friendly - one handed.

So I checked out TMobile because I really like the Dash and it's nicely priced. Obviously it's EDGE and not EDVO but it is Wi Fi capable and I live the middle of Minneapolis, very ...

Full length audio and video podcasts on mobile phones

I read an interesting interview on About.com with Mr. Silver, head of Mobipod which discusses the importance of mobile podcasting for mass-market adoption, and how MobiPod delivers 30-45 minute podcast/videocasts to the mobile phone.

Audiovox 6700 w/Verizon - can this be used as a modem?

Hi,
I currently have an Audiovox 6700 with Verizon's unlimited data plan. My last phone was the 6600 which I was able to hook up via bluetooth to my laptop for internet access. I have tried to connect this new phone and it does not appear to work. I asked tech support and they say it is not supported on this phone, strange considering it was supported on the older version (also would have been nice to know this before changing phones). The person at the store was as amazed as I was that this phone wouldn't connect.

Has anyone found a way to connect this 6700 with Verizon's service as a modem to a laptop?

Thnx,
Evan

Cingular's Data Connect vs BB Services

I am planning to buy a Nokia E62 phone and obtain service through Cingular. However, I am quite puzzled at the various offers for data service. 🙄

Hence, I am interested in learning more about the performance & features differences between the following Cingular's services:
  • Data Connect Unlimited

  • SmartPhone Connect Unlimited

  • BlackBerry Unlimited

  • BlackBerry Personal Plan - Unlimited

  • BlackBerry Connect Unlimited

  • Anybody out there has a grasp on this???

    Thanks!

Good Bluetooth Headset to Pair wth LG VX8300???

I just bought the VX8300 and a Motorola HS850 BT headset to go with it. I had read that the Moto headsets are brand racist, but I decided to give this one a try anyway. Sure enough, I was less than pleased with sound quality, not to mention the randomly changing volume levels, and I'm going back to the Verizon store for a different model tomorrow. Can anyone suggest a BT headset that works well with the LG VX8300 before I get to deep into the process? Much appreciated!

Mobile TV and the Great Vendor Conspiracy

Is Mobile TV nothing but a vendor conspiracy to get wireless operators/carriers to constantly upgrade networks?

Can Mobile TV be delivered over pre-3G networks?

Have Nokia and Ericsson hi-jacked the industry and done more harm than good?

The feature article of Mobile Europe's October edition - "Power to the People" by Monte Silver seems to say so.

2 More EVDO Rev A connection card for Sprint

Sweet Navajo Mojo! It looks like Sprint's getting yet ANOTHER 2 EVDO Rev A connection cards and 1 of the 2 appears to be a USB one so people with the new ExpressCard form factors can finally have broadband access.

How is Sprint's Broadband Access network?

So, I just picked up a laptop and want to get a PC Card for it; I've checked out Verizon and Cingular, and the 79.99 looks a little painful for me. Sprint offers 59.99 for unlimited with a 2-year agreement; how is the coverage, especially indoors, with Sprint's Broadband network?

    Question....

Me being an upcoming student I will need on the go internet service and in my area Sprint is the only one with 3G service. So I know they will work for that BUT I also do on-line gaming, will these air cards with 3g service work well with that or will it fry on me, or be to fluctuating to rely on, or possibly will Sprint say I am being abusive and charge me more?

    WAP and Bluetooth

I've been wondering this for a long time now: If a VZW user has a phone (LG Chocolate) and PDA connected thru bluetooth DUN, how would it work when you view the Mobile Web using the PDA?

Would it have the same restrictions on sites you can view? Can you even do it?

I know the Chocolate is DUN capable but I wasnt sure how the browsing/viewing would interact with the PDA. Any help would be appreciated.

    PCI ExpressCards

Does anyone know of any wireless card manufacturer who makes one of their cards in the new PCI ExpressCard form factor? It appears quite a few of the laptop manufacturers like Dell and Compaq/HP are making their systems with the PCI ExpressCard instead of the PCMCIA ones which have been the standard of wireless card manufacturers ever since I've been in the industry. I guess customer for the time being will have to request PCMCIA configurations when buying a laptop until someone comes out with a wireless PCI ExpressCard form factor card.
