3GSM suggestions?

It's that time of year again: Eric Lin and myself are headed off to Barcelona in a few hours to cover the big 3GSM event next week.

It's shaping up to a huge show this year, with tons of exciting new things being announced.

If you're familiar with our past show coverage, you'll know the things we usually cover.

This time around, I wanted to ask in advance if there are any new / different things you'd like us to focus on or do. Any suggestions?

The first couple of days we'll be running around like maniacs covering the major new stuff, but the last couple of days are usually less hectic, giving us some time to dig deeper on certain things.

We can't promise to fulfill every request, but we're really interested to hear your sugges...

thread management

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature to 'ignore' a certain thread, that would help the necroposting, since the way this forum works can make it difficult to see *new* threads when this is going on, or if giant threads are randomly getting posts, the new posts drop dramatically fast (esp lounge religion type stuff) or if not, make it so
(more replies..) shows up after the initial post? 😛

Eric or Rich...

Do you think it may be possible for forum members to personalize their Phone Scoop pages once they have logged into the site for items such as the font type, color scheme, etc?

Rich or Eric or anyone from phonescoop.com

😳 😳 😳

All of you in GSM phone land...

Have you ever heard of the Motorola m900 fixed car phone?

I have heard our local Alltel/Western Wireless/CellularOne stores bragging about this phone being the answer to a bag phone (supposed to have 3 watts of power w/o needing a booster to get there). Apparently Motorola is now making an m800 which handles CDMA/Analog? ANY HELP ON THIS ONE WOULD GREAT?!? 😳

What about user moderation?

Were you set up a scoring system that other users rate a post. And the lower your user rating goes it is automatically censored and you have to take an extra step to read it. Something like packing.org has done in their forum. Also from what I read (Court rulings) a moderated forum like this the webmaster or site owner can be held liable in civil court for a slandering post. Just a thought.

Necroposting prevention???

Is there any way to prevent necroposting (re-posting old threads)? While it is nice to be able to reference past threads, the necroposting from 3 years ago just wastes space. While the posts may be still valid points, it's very difficult to sift through the outdated posts quickly...and yes, I can read the dates, but when glancing quickly, I really don't pay too much attention to the dates.

I prefer fresh, new posts. If you want to start a NEW thread about something from 3 years ago, knock yourself out, but is it possible to prevent very old threads (i figure older than 3 months) from being reposted in their entirety?

Too many necroposts too often...

PDA forum

I think there should be a forum devoted to PDAs and smartphones, and not just the platforms they run.

New Forum Idea

Rich...we all know the threat that the trolls pose in the carrier forums. No real physical damage, but they do distract from the true purpose of the forums, which is informational. Would it be possible to have a new forum, say a Battlegrounds Forum, that would play host to the bickering and fanatacism? It would kindof serve as a Shop Talk for people who are embattled against eachother in a cellular frenzy. There could even be a disclaimer entering the forum that warns of the violent nature of the posts, and that could be the no-holds barred forum if you want. But perhaps I assume too much. The bloodshed would probably spill over into the other forums. But it is still an idea. Thanks for your consideration.

Rich

I was wondering if we could have a "serious" forum for the religous and political discussions we have been flooding the lounge with.
If you have already considered this, and decided for whatever reason against it, then its your site, so thats cool beans.

thanks

A Possible New Forum Section

Rich, do you feel it may be possible to devote a forum section titled something like Buy Here/Sell Here/Trade Here for forum members who had wireless devices they would like to buy/sell/trade with other forum memembers? The reason I ask is the commercial places like eBay seem impersonal compared to a place like Phone Scoop. Caveat emptor would be the motto for those you wished to engage in that particular forum and release Phone Scoop from any claims.

I have a question about unlocking (removing subisdy carrier lock)

Hi everyone,

I have a Nokia 6030b with T-Mobile. I always unlock my nokia phones when I get them using codes from nokiafree.org.

Well when I got my Nokia 6030b I accidentally put in the wrong codes 5 times and now it won't unlock. This is the first time in history where I have goofed like this. (I usually always get the codes right) I read on their site that I need a cable to unlock my phone.

My question is what is this cable and where do I go to get it and how can I use it to reset my phone so that I can unlock it?

Thank you for your help.

Why so slow with new/upcoming phone listings?

I have been a big fan of Phonescoop for a long time. Each time I heard about an upcoming phone, I could always trust Phonescoop to profile that phone before (or at the same time as) any other website.
Lately, however, it seems that while the articles are timely, the phone profiles are not. If there is an option to search for new phones by FCC approval dates, then it seems like phones approved months ago should be on the list, no?
Anyway...I still love Phonescoop, but have been bummed about the lack of phone coverage.
Anyone else?
Is there a reason for this?

suggest to help improve the videos

the celltop video started a wee bit of a thing and i want to bring the discussion up here, where it's more appropriate...

for the past year, making video reviews has been a learning experience for us. yes, it's tough to believe but we've only been making them for a year, and already we've done 30. that's better than 1 every 14 days.

we started with no experience at all and slowly but surely learned what you want to see, and hear. we've tried making videos 100 different ways (trying many different styles and techniques for each video) and have gone through some phases (some better than others, please forgive me my first few last winter.) but we've come to rest on what we've got now.

to us it seems like the best compromise between sp...

Help us dial-up users!

It is so hard for us dial-up users to use this forum!
You have to click on each post individually, why can't you make it where you can view the original post and all the replies on the same page? If you have dialup this is hell- you have to click on the replies individually and it takes FOREVER!

Why do the forums suck?

I mean, it's horrible to browse them.

This outline format is...Stupid, and I barely ever browse the forums because of it.

At the very least, allow us nested viewing, or change to a non-proprietary forum, like IPB or vBulliten.
