If this thing had come out as late as 3 months ago this forum would be 10 pages long and there would be 50 reviews. Verizon didn't miss out on much since it turns out the Droid is a success, but Samsung lost out big time by this thing not coming out sooner when people were actually excited about it.

Re: LG VX-8700 vs. Motorola RAZR2 V9m (Verizon Wireless)
Jan 22, 2008, 2:24 PM
in the LG VX-8700 forum

I have the 8700, my friend has the V9m. 1. I do like the size of the 8700 better, it fits better in my pants pocket. The 8700 is thin enough, I like that it is narrower. 2. The font size on the V9m is not that bad, I don't think. But it is adjustable on the 8700 if that is important to you. 3. Call clarity, signal strength are good on both, I have found slightly better on 8700, ...

One thing to remember, not all cameras are created equal. Just because it has the same/different MP rating does not mean it is the same/different quality. You have to look at the lens, the processor, etc. There are 3MP cameras that take better pics that some 5MP cameras.

Do not go with the Maxx, the build quality is poor. Re: 8700 vs. the RAZR2, you'd have to justify the extra $150-200 (depending on what your NE2 situation is). Personally I don't care about the big outer screen on the RAZR2 since you can't read text messages on it, as far as I have heard. And the lack of expandable memory seems a little silly. A couple things to check at the store - ...

"Yeah, I do say so, Jag"? Articulate AND an authority on phones. The total package. I bet you're some little punk who would never say that to someone's face 'cause you'd get pounded, so you run around forums and blogs being a numbskull to blow off steam. It's not our fault mommy didn't hug you enough as a child.

Not being a jerk, just curious why anyone would buy this phone, then stick it in a case? This phone is meant to look good and be slim. The case doubles the thickness of the phone and pretty much negates the advantages of the phone. There are other phones that have the same or better features that cost less.

in the LG VX-8700 forum

For anyone who didn't know, the initial charge is very important. When you get the phone, DO NOT CHARGE IT. Run it down to dead, THEN charge it all the way. I did this and am getting very good battery life. I don't talk a ton, but I have been screwing around a lot taking pictures, texting, video, and my battery life is fine.

How else do you propose being hands-free as is required while driving in many states? Does it look less dorky to use a wired headset? You must be on the precipice of dorkdom if something as trivial as a bluetooth headset is what would make you a dork. If Giselle Bundchen was wearing a bluetooth headset and acknowledged your presence, I'm guessing you'd still need to change your pants.

I got to it through a link in my corporate website. Or you can go to the verizonwireless.com page, under "Learn More" the first item is "Employee Discounts." Click on that, on the page that comes up you click on "Check Now," then on the page that comes up you put in your work e-mail. It will tell you if you are eligible.

$29.99 - Check for a corporate discount
Apr 6, 2007, 2:02 PM
in the LG VX-8700 forum

My employer, along with many others, has a corporate discount with Verizon. The corporate discount price for my employer is $129.99, and I am eligible for the NE2, so I will net out at $29.99. Only issue is that I will have to wait until the end of the month as the online corporate discount process doesn't recognize the NE2 and I have to go through customer service, and they don't yet have the phones to dispense.

My "ranting" is because the "idiots complaining about their phones" do a disservice to those of us who are interested in a legitimate review. The folks at Car & Driver don't gripe because the new Mustang won't tow their boat because that doesn't tell anyone anything they shouldn't already know and it's irrelevant to that car. When someone marks a phone down for something it's not supposed to do, that's an unfair knock on the phone and, ...

You're kidding, right? It wasn't a price reference, it was a purpose reference. A Blackberry and the vx8700 have different markets. The Blackberry is for texting, an operating system, e-mail, etc. The vx8700 is slim, fashionable. Each can do some of what the other does, but each has a set of features that are different and better than the other. Both the minivan and Porsche can get you to the store, but the ...

Why didn't they put this phone out first? Why didn't Ford skip the Model T and go right to the Mustang? And you're going to see what the new Blackberry looks like compared to the 8700??? When you were looking for a minivan was your other option a Porsche Boxter?

$50 more for a better looking phone (I think), better build quality (metal v. plastic), better camera, expanded phone book, hopefully a better speakerphone and a few other tweaks is fine with me.

The only award you'll receive is for the most inane and nonsensical response of the year. Nothing like a blanket statement with absolutely no basis or even a tangential relationship to logic to really make your case. What color is the sky in your world?

So people shouldn't be able to have that option in their car or their house? If you want to buy me a decent bluetooth headset, I'll be happy to use it whenever you're around. I love it when people think that what goes for them should go for everyone. Hev, I'm sure you don't do anything that annoys anyone else. You're the least offensive person ever. Congrats.

Wish I knew when the Maxx and Shine (VX8700) http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/09/lgs- shine-like-vx8700-for-verizon/ were coming out. I realize they are different phones with different purposes, but I just want a good "phone" for making calls that has a little kick to it. The U740 has the keyboard, the Maxx has the 2.0 camera and looks cool, and the 8700 is thin and just plain looks sweet.

Who cares how "soon" they released it? Speakerphones are not some new innovation. It's a no brainer, if you're going to put one in the phone, make sure it works. The KRZR speakerphone works great, so does the 8300. Don't do it half-assed, especially in a phone that appears to aspire to be more than a freebie you get for signing up.

Speakerphone fix?

Seems like the one gripe most people have is the low speakerphone. Anyone know if this could eventually be fixed by a software upgrade or something else? It seems like this is the one thing keeping this from being anawesome phone.
