Change Ringer Status from Outside?

kerrigjl

I'm waiting for this to come into stores so I can return my 8600 and pick it up, but I was wondering (for those of you who have it already) if the ringer status (i.e. full volume, vibrate only, silent, etc.) can be set from the outside of this phone. I can't find a way to do it with the 8600, and it annoys me to no end to have to open my phone (especially during class or meetings) and set the ringer to silent. Thanks!

According to the Katie posts, you can't change the ringer from the outside. I also completely prefer having the ability to change the ringer from the outside. I don't know if LG has ever had this option, or the option of being able to use the speakerphone with the phone closed.

Please don't classify my previous post as me complaining that the 8700 is "buggy" because you can't change the volume from the outside. I simply prefer having this feature and I am disappointed that the phone doesn't have it. We all have our prefered features in a phone and hopefully we can find one that is as close to suiting our preferences as possible. And once we acquire the phone suiting our preferences, hopefully it won't be "buggy."

OK, so on a related note, does anyone know if the RAZR Maxx can do this?

It would have to be available for anyone to know that. It's not. Maybe you can find a manual on it.

It's not mentioned in the manual, but some people at HoFo have been able to order it (and have subsequently received it). Just wondering if the same was true here.

Well considering this is a forum or an LG phone, you might have better luck on a Motorola forum.

well, officer katielynn, in addition to telling people what is and isn't a "problem," now you're telling them what they can and cannot discuss in what forums. you're a real piece of work.

i agree, she basically told me that i am nuts for not loving this phone, and i should just live with 'the bugs'. i think she either works for lg or verizon wireless. i think this gold (or should i say silver) wrapped phone is a piece of sorts. YES, for $349, verizon I DO EXPECT EVERYTHING every desired choice button etc. TO BE perfect. all my other lg's from vzw have been perfect. so that i why i am overall very annoyed and disappointed. i would love to agree with this lady. i am sure that she probably is very kind. sorry i cannot agree though. soooooo, moto, bring it on. verizon will have it in the next two weeks i am told. i am still a lg fan. i will not give up easily. time for me to get a life.

Just to clarify - I did not tell you you were crazy, I did not tell you you had to like this phone, nor do I work for any cellular company.

I said nothing about your issue with the voice prompt. I do not use that feature. However, I did go to my phone to hear the voice commands, and I agree it is very hard to hear. I cannot say if that is a bug or not because I have never tried it on another phone. But it does seem useless at that volume so, it probably is. (Maybe a software update will allow the speakerphone to be activated anytime instead of in-call only. Who knows.) I would be disappointed if that feature was important to me. That is why I did not mention your legitimate complaint in my other post.

(FYI -It is not a bug that it's co...

you were very kind and respectful in or with your explanation. so when i was overbearing with my previous responses, i do apologize. this is a mature forum, and being new, i did not act that way. i called verizon wireless late last night. they agree, this is the way it is unless or until lg comes up with a firmware download? i think, and maybe i am totally offbase here, the speakerphone function disables her voice when not on a call. of course when you are on a call, you would not hear her anyway. the font thing, is not biggie to me. thank you kindly for your explanation above. i am not going to give up on this phone. it is the best that vz has introduced.

People aren't able to answer her question - so I direct her to forum where people know more about the phone she is asking about and that's a bad thing?

Yeah I am such a jerk for telling someone that another forum may be more helpful.

My god you have issues! Get a life and quit spending it stalking my posts online.

I believe that you can only do this by opening your phone and using the side buttons to change the ringer volume or to change it to vibrate or silent. I had the VX8000 until the other day when I got the VX8700 and it was the same way.

I can't imagine you would want it to work any other way. Like someone else said, if you didn't need to open the phone then the volume could change at anytime just carrying it in your pocket.

Some Motorola phones allow you to change the volume setting (vibrate-loud-soft), from the outside. And it does not change just from carrying it in your pocket.
