When is MetroPCS going to release a new EVDO phone that supports AWS? All the AWS phones support the slow ass 1x network. Geez!!! this is 2008, shouldn't their whole network be EVDO by now? I'm tired of the piss poor phone selection. I've been holding on to my Samsung U520 for quite some time now, there's no phone released that have convinced me to "upgrade." Sorry for sounding like a whiner but ...

In addition to that, a person avoiding a cell-phone wont be able to avoid other individual's cell phone radiation, not to mention solar radiation, radiation emitted by radio/tv stations, electronical devices, carbon-14, terrestrial satellite signals, radar, cosmic rays, UV rays, omg it goes on and on! The fears of mobile-phone radiation is unfounded and irrational at best. One would have to avoid all other forms of aforementioned radiation.

Why just teens. I seen plenty of idiots older than 16-20+ driving while talking and now texting on their phones. Perhaps they should have this illegal device in their car as well.

No, Sprint owns the spectrum, which is the right to broadcast at certain frequencies. They just sold the towers that do such a thing. Most towers are actually owned by 3rd-party companies. Most carriers tend to share towers anyways, meaning that the tower is 3rd party-owned. As far as engineering goes, that's up to the carrier.

I have the U520 and I guess I was fortunate that my phone functions well, although I'm simply bored with it and I just wanted to know if the messenger was good. Im considering upgrading to the messenger although it bothers me that it doesn't have EVDO. I heard Nokia are comming out with new models for mPCS that may have EVDO(high speed internet). Although the messenger seems appealing b/c it has a qwerty keyboard and ...

Aug 17, 2008, 6:45 PM
in the Metro forum

It wouldn't be too hard for me, since I live in Detroit (actually less than half the year). It doesn't matter what area the customers are, I'm pretty sure people in suburban areas wouldn't know how to use most of those features either. Actually most people don't even take advantage of most features of their phone. The younger crowd seems to be more apt to using more features. Nonetheless, a smartphone for metro isn't smart, ...

metroPCS primarily uses CDMA 1x, and in some areas, both 1x and EV. EV is dependent on region. Like in Michigan, I only get 1x in the Detroit area but when I'm in Ann Arbor/Ypsi, I get EV.

It is sad to see those workers out of a job but when business costs are high, it makes no sense to operate at a loss unless the state lowered its taxes. Life overseas is different but you must know that Germany's economy is just as strong as ours (in fact Germany's economy is the most robust in the EU), not every country outside of the U.S. is impoverished. Plus there aren't any options for laborers who ...

what are you talking about, have you read the article? it will put a freeze on new or increases on phone taxes which is a good thing, b/c they wont go up.. or there will be no new ones, idealy there shouldn't be a tax on cellular service at all, at least it should be at the state level, and there's no definitive answer to Rome's collapse, and the U.S is still comparatively a young country compared to others that ...

in the Article: T-Mobile Pushing FCC for Delay in AWS-3 Rules forum

The idea of the FCC mandating that cellular companies, like T-mobile, is obligated to allow that spectrum that they will PURCHASE to be free-open-access doesn't make sense. What will be the incentive to spend billions of dollars on the rights to broadcast on a slice of spectrum spectrum which is very very expensive and offer it for free? I'm sorry there's no such thing as free... i can see why Tmobile wants to delay this. the ...

I didnt even know Metro had coverage down there (i live in the city proper) but ur welcome and im glad i could help, and to answer ur question EVDO stands for (Evolution Data Optimized) its one of the 3g broadband networks for phones, its basically faster internet for the phone, dsl-like speeds, 400kbs-700kbs in that range and it can get as fast as 2.4mbs (sorry if this sounds too technical) Metropcs has it in certain markets, unfortunately ...

i suggest the U520, i was stuck in this battle as well but i chose samsung b/c their products are usually reliable and im always satisfied w/ their quality i dont know what market ur in, but im in the detroit area, and the U520 has excellent to moderate reception(i rarely drop calls), and evdo is good (if you have it in ur area), the megapixel cam is good, although the phone is thin, its not too thin and its ...

I don't live in the San Fransisco area so i cant tell you about reliability in the area. But MetroPCS has a "30 minute or less" guarentee that if you are not satisfied w/ their service you can return the phone you bought and you'll get your money back no questions asked. 30 minutes is far too little time to judge reception and reliability so i would recommend testing it in areas where u know ur gonna use ...

i agree w/ you it will take a while, metro still has to establish itself, and open in new markets, and the good thing is we have wireless internet, and being in ann arbor, michigan the EVDO comes in handy, (im a student), it sucks when i go back home to detroit, all it get is 1x, but aws will take care of that, and gps would be nice, cant wait..

i only been w/ metro since December 07 and i can say that is true to some extent... thanx for that info now i can see a pattern on how they release phones, although the U520 isnt a high-end phone, its specs are close to the rokr.. i cant wait to see what they release later this year (im not really fond of moto products)

i wouldnt go far to say they will meet their demise, you have to remember what target customers they are going after; a person who cant afford a contract, or cant get one due to being underage or a low FICO score, or those who aren't making a lot of money. i dont think they are going to care what features the phone has nor its appearance, although that is not true for every MetroPCS customer, i myself do ...

you can only purchase metro-PCS branded phones as they are the only phones configured to work on their network; they only have ESN's that are in metro's system, but if u want a good phone i suggest either the Moto Z6m, or the Samsung U520.

Metro offers pretty basic phones except for the Kyocera e2000, the SLVR, Samsung U520(i have that phone), and the Motorola Z3, but they are all flip or most of them, a phone that would be good for u is the Samsung R410, its a candy bar phone but it has a keyboard that slides out. it has a basic camera and screen but i think it will be something u like because it has a full keyboard that ...

Re: can you use a phone not made for metropcs with metropcs?

No, MetroPCS will only activate a phone with their logo on it, metro has a set database of ESN numbers and will only activate phones that has an ESN(electronic serial number, located under the battery) in their database, no exceptions. although sprint and verizon are in the works of doing this, metro is not at this time.

i didnt know that, i see why they text more. probably explains why people in n.america talk more. it makes sense that txting is cheaper in europe, its better to text someone in france from germany than to call and pay international tariffs and the 13-year old girl thing, as far as talking, its true, i have a little sister myself, her phone is glued to her head. i dont talk much on my phone, i'd rather ...

i must have been misinformed about calls in europe, now i see it makes sense. any ways what it stupid is subjective. would it be worse to hear other people gossip or have "stupid conversations" according to you, at least you dont have to hear it if it bothers you that much. sometimes some stuff should just be left alone and let things be.
