I don't know much about how it can work but from the little that i've heard, you can use any phone with your carrier that is made to work with the same network(i.e. CDMA,GSM). If this is the case, would that mean that I could pick any phone made for either Sprint or Verizon for example unlocked to use with Metropcs? Thanks.

No, MetroPCS will only activate a phone with their logo on it, metro has a set database of ESN numbers and will only activate phones that has an ESN(electronic serial number, located under the battery) in their database, no exceptions.

although sprint and verizon are in the works of doing this, metro is not at this time.
