sprint
on sprint, upgrade eligibility is based on esn, unless the esn is changed by lockline - at least that has been my experience as a sprint customer the last five times i've been involved in it (whether for myself or any of my friends) over the past few years
switching phones: how easy is it to do?
quick question...
actually, let me ramble for a bit of explanation first...
(scroll down for the actual question)
i have been with many different wireless carriers in the past (t-mobile, cingular, sprint, verizon, and cricket, to name a few) and from my experience, it is a lot easier to switch handsets if you're on a gsm carrier than it is if you're on a cdma carrier.
what i am familiar with is being able to take the sim card out of my old ...
re: why did it take so long
please allow me to try to answer this question for you...
as far as i know, gsm networks have always had open handset policies because of the way the phones are built.
further, cdma networks have always been locked for the same reason.
let me elaborate.
gsm phones and networks are built such that anytime a device tries to access the network, the information on the S-ubscriber I-dentification M-odule (or SIM card) is verified, and the handset (or device) compatability with the network ...
Re: Sound w/ Power up & down
cant be done with this phone
ps - im curious as to whether you can list any model cell phone that can do that...as far as im aware, every single cell phone ever made is/was/will always be, designed to make a sound as its turning off or turning on...part of the basic conceptual makeup of a cell phone
and another different question
i have a question about yahoo messenger on this phone as well -
i use messengers mostly on my home pc...i was able to register this phone as a mobile device on aim just fine, but when i tried it on yahoo it told me that my number was not supported by yahoo messenger at this time...anyone know why that may have been?
gotta buy em
either thru sprint.com, or from the sprint homepage on your phone
Re: media files on memory card
-while we're on the subject, is it possible to use files on the memory card as ring tones or alarm ringers, and if so, how?
You can't. You have to upload them through the web and download them to your phone. I think you might be able to with the sync.
so, wait, did you say that i could load my music files to the internet and then download them to the phone to use them as ringtones or alarms? how ...
question about m510
please help me i posted a question in the m510 forum
media files on memory card
i have a friend who has a samsung sync and she just bought my 1g microsd after i bought a 2g microsd from radio shack for about 30 bucks (it was on sale) anyway, she asked me to help her use it, i told her she would first need a usb adapter, but then i realized that there was something about her phone (as well as my m510, for that matter) that i didn't know:
-what folder do music files ...
Re: cricKet in Texas
x-cellent...never a dropped call...i've had my xcursion for about six months now and not only had i never had a single problem, but every time i do have a question for customer service, they are willing and able to take as much time as it takes to answer my questions thoroughly and professionally...their are only three things i dont like about cricket, the first of which i have heard they are working on...
btw, i list these in priority order, ...
krzr music features on cricket
anybody know whether or not the music features of the krzr are affected in any way by the phone being a cricket phone?
just curious, 'cuz i'm thinking about upgrading from my xcursion that i've had for about six months now (and have always loved it) but wondering about the music experience i would have with the krzr
Re: It does have a name, not just the Alphanumeric designation
i think the best name anyone's come up with so far for this phone in this thread in onyx...i just wanted to comment that i think it would be simply poetic for samsung to release a phone identical to this one (e.g., with at least all the features this phone has) except in a slider form factor, and have everyone start calling it the cocoa, as if samsung released to directly compete with lg's chocolate, as sanyo did when ...
Re: Best place to buy a Used Sprint Phone (unlocked or not)
lol
...whatever IT is...could it be a stolen phone? broken? a phone package with coal inside?
seriously, at least at radshack u can actually play with the product b4 u buy it

Why would any Nextel subscriber want to get this phone and have LESS voice coverage?
b/c cdma data is faster - maybe they like to text alot
Re: MOTO W315 LAUNCH NOV. 20
6265i?????????
expressing angst
ever since the merger was announced i've been looking forward to being able to use nextel's ptt network without switching my contract to nextel...
i thought that these hybrid phones would allow me to do that, but i guess the exculsivity agreement that motorola has with nextel regarding iden chipsets is still in place, huh?
anyone have any clue when i'll be able to use a phone on my sprint contract to ptt with my gf's nextel?
interesting policies
i just signed up a few days ago and i just wanted to make sure everyone knew about a few things the guy in the store told me. i was talking to him about developing a plan for me to be able to upgrade from the Xcursion that i just got to the nokia slider, when it gets launched in January.
he told me that whenever anyone is signing up for cricKet service, and they are providing their own phone, ...
Re: Nokia 6265i in Stores Now...
what market are you in? cuz i just signed up a few days ago and the guy in the store told me that both nokias and both motos are coming to him in January. I picked up an Xcursion to tide me through the holidays. by the way, im in austin, tx.

Re: Using He-AAC instead of Mp3s to save space.
will windows media player convert itunes downloads to aac? or even better, to he-aac?
new motos for sprint?
i just saw on the sprint website that three new bada$$ motos are coming to sprint in november - does anyone here know if and/or when they'll make it into radioshack stores in the austin, tx area?
slvr for sprint at radio shack?
any one know?
dates and prices would be helpful...
thanks in advance
Re: How does Sprint kick verizons butt???????
yeah...i agree if verizon ever merged with sprextel than that would almost be a monopoly (don't bash, i did say almost)...
but if verizon ever did merge with someone, i would like to see them merge with t-mobile...that would bring rise to a world of wireless providers similar to the world of auto carmakers... i.e. *the big three* u.s. companies would be combatting everyone else from europe...but of course t-mobile is already huge in europe
no? then what next?
so what do i do? will i ever be able to chirp with her from my sprint phone?
last year i heard somewhere that sometime this year sprint is supposed to be introducing some new phones that will use cdma (on the sprint network) for voice and data (evdo) and iden/tdma (on the nextel network) for ptt. this will make these phones an industry first - single handsets that operate on two networks simultaneously.
anyway, do i have to wait, and ...
readylink to direct connect? yet?
anyone heard any new news about if and when readylink customers will be able to push-to-talk to direct connect customers?
in other words...i have a 8300, and my girlfriend is on nextel...as a matter of fact, her entire family has nextel, and she loves using the radio way more than she does the phone...anyway, my question is...
how much longer should i wait before adding readylink to my line? so that i can radio her...
ad2p
check this site's glossary...it says ad2p is stereo bluetooth...and that would be the one thing i think this phone is missing...peter
please help!...sprint
ok, so after falling in love with the nokia slider a few weeks ago, and being told (mostly by you guys, some other websited as well) that it was getting pushed back/delayed multiple times, my employer tells me that they can get me 25% off at sprint...first question in my mind is whether they have any phones that compare to the nokia slider i been waitin for from cricket...i already have an account with sprint, but they srewed me ...
Re: when is the phone going to cricket?
maybe in ur area, but i havent heard anything in my area about it...where are you? im in central texas...
ptt?
anyone know anything about cricket ever offering a push-to-talk service/feature on their phones/plans? maybe they could call it cricket chirp!?

Re: Pictures of Dual Mode Phones
other than the fact that it is dual-mode, neither of the dual-mode phones on that page seemed as interesting as the slimline iden phone at the bottom...i was just in the sprint forum commenting on the new sanyo 9900 'katana', and then i come in here and see a new iden slimline phone!...let me expand on my day to better explain the way i feel...
talking to sprint rep about new phones on the market...the RAZR is mentioned...then the BLADE ...
Re: Sanyo Katana Pics?
i just wanted to comment on how similar the 9900 'katana' keypad looks to my 8200, and how anxiously excited that makes me, when it comes to awaiting the launch date of the 9900 'katana'...
i have an 8200...
and this phone raises a question in my mind: asn't it similar to my 3-year-old 8200? guess that just goes to show how good my 8200 really was...
Re: EV-DO and ReadyLink
wait a tic...
so is that what the sprint tech support rep meant when he told me that "Sprint's current phones that support RL will be able to communicate in a PTT fashion with Nextel's iDEN phones, but not until sometime next year, possibly late spring, likely early summer"?
was he referring to qchat? was he saying, in a cryptic way, that my 8200, and everybody else's RL phones, as well as everybody's iden phones, will be updated OTA sometime next ...
Re: Sanyo MM-9000 vs Samsung A-940
please satisfy my curiosity...
why is streaming tv USEFUL (i.e. "PRODUCTIVE") on a cell phone?...
what i'm trying to do is to explore the capabilities that feature gives the user, to determine if i want a phone that has that feature (i.e. "WHAT AM I MISSING?")
p.s. i now have a sanyo 8200, and i love it...
Re: So where is the PTT?
yeah, i guess i agree with you, only b/c sprint's ptt works over their data network...i was about to post "WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?" b/c i was thinking that ptt, voice, and bt all work with distinct chipsets, but then my sanyo reminded me by disabling RL when i jumped online...
