Motorola V400

Hello,
Do I need to have internet enabled on the v400 if it is hooked up to a laptop via a USB cord? I want to be able to connect to the internet on my laptop through the phone. Is this possible? (i.e. Use the phone as a modem)

I just got the phone today. So far I like it, except for the buttons on the outside. I keep hitting them. Is there a way to turn them off

I just downloaded Audacity to make my own ringtones and after playing around with it for a while, I've come to the conclusion that I'm clueless as to how to create a ringtone. If anyone could lead me through the steps that would be great. I downloaded Lame so I Believe I'M all set. Thanks.

I'm trying to install the pk2 driver, I extracted the files, and checked to see if the drivers showed up in the control planel, but they did not. I must be forgetting one step in the process, or perhaps I need to extract the files to a specific location.

Your site is awesome!!!! I couldnt decide between the v600 and the v400 until I saw your site. I didnt think I could download the mp3s on the v400 until I checked out your site. I was going to spend the extra money on the v600 just for that feature and when I checked out this forum last week I was amazed. I bought the v400 last Tuesday and I couldnt be happier. I followed your site step by step and with a few trial and errors, now I have all my fav tunes and pics on my 400. I couldnt have asked for anything better.

i bought the usb cored to connect my PC and phone. Now i don't know what to do next. What software do i need to transfer info "Mp3, pics " from pc to phone???

Okay, I have the program installed...But there are like 4 options when considering the modem....which do I choose...There's like 2 that say rockwell 56K modem, and there's some type of DSL modem. The program will run, but if it's working properly should my service provider show up on the phone menu part? Because nothing shows up as far as signal, battery, ect. Also by the clock on the toolbar of my computer there is a little phone with a red screen. I'm guessing that's a bad connection...Also, when I try to add MP3s to my phone none of them show up and the program frequently crashes..I have WIN 98 by the way. HELP!!! I've got it installed/updated, but i don't think it recognizes my phone. I have a cable modem, a Terayon modem. So I don't want to select the 56K modem dialup one but Terayon isn't included in the list. My USB cord doesn't have the bump in it so it should work. Do I select COM 1 or COM 2? What is a COM anyway? Someone help me, I just want to be able to use what I paid for on my phone!

I am trying to connect my phone to the internet and am having difficulty. I got mobile phone tools installed correctly (I think) but when I try to start PST an error message comes up that says "a required .DLL file ODBC32.DLL, was not found. What does this mean and how can I fix it? Also I am trying to install the driver and it isn't really working. I have windows 98, how do I get 98 SE (Is it needed)? I tried motoclub.com but when I try to download it these weird pages show up and the download won't start! Help! All I want is to download ringtones!

I seem to be having a problem with MPT and my usb cable. I bought the usb cable at radio shack and when its hooked into my V400 and MPT is going it doesnt recognize my phone correctly and I cant do anything. It was not made for MPT - and I got it for free so its not a big deal that it doesnt work. I was wondering where I can get a cable that will work with the v400 and MPT - thanks

btw cellphoneshop.net has one for $12.00 and it appears to be a generic one, anyone who knows if this will work please reply.

Okay, heres the situation... I was using the P2K File Manager program to upload stuff to my phone. Before I did that, I downloaded all the tones & graphics that were already on the phone... the crappy preloaded ones... so I could delete them off the phone, but have a copy of those files on my computer... but after I did that,I think I may have accidentally deleted something that was neccessary for both the Ring Styles and the Ringer ID... cuz now when I try to change the Ringer ID for an entry in my address book, it kicks me back onto the main screen... Same thing with the Ringer Styles... I can change them (to vibrate or loud & Stuff) but where it says "Loud Detail" and I try to change it... it kicks me back...

Is there a way to "lock" nad "unlock" the side keys on a V400? I keep mine in my poskcet and occasionally bump the up/down button causing a beep and a change in my rign characterisitcs.

Anyone know how to prevent this (short oftaking it out of my pocket)?

I typed up a guide on modifying the earpiece volume for a friend of mine and I figured I'd share it with the forum here. Hope it helps somebody out.

Software you'll need

P2KMan's normal help files are in Russian so they won't be of use.

Installation

Do not connect the data cable yet.
Install HHD Hex Editor first; it's easy to install.
Next, install P2KMan. It doesn't have an installer so you'll need to extract the zip file to somewhere, such as in i...

Will the guide to increase the ear-piece volume work with the t720? The ear-piece is SOO quiet that it's really hard to hear someone talking to you.

I have already looked over the instructions for doing the volume increase and I'm gonna do it tonight. Let me know if following these instructions will not work with the t720 (or if they will, for that matter).
