Seeking advice on choosing a carrier for NY Metro

I'm looking to sign up with a carrier. I live and work in the New York City metropolitan area. 99% of calls will be made in and around the 5 boroughs of NYC, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey. I'm currently with ATT; my wife is now with Verizon. We intend to go with a family plan. We don't need the best phones, but want good quality. My wife wants a camera phone.

Which carrier should we go with? We went to dealers today at ATT, Verizon and Cingular. Cingular seems to have the best deal, and Verizon seems to have the worst deal. For $70/month: 850 anytime rollover minutes on a nationwide basis; unlimited free mobile to mobile (I assume this includes both Cingular and ATT, once the merger goes through); Unlimited nights after...

Upgrade Program????

Because of the type of job that my husband does we relocate once every 9 months. Sprint has been by far the best coverage we have out of the three carriers we use.(Sprint is for our own phones, the other two are company provided.)I have an older plan for $85/month...2000 anytime minutes, free second line, free unlimited Vision, free PCS2PCS; and did not want to change my plan. The two Samsung N400's on my account where quickly becoming unserviciable and needed to be replaced. I have been a customer for 20 months, and no longer have an agreement. I went to the Sprint store to see about purchasing phones and was told that I was not able to purchase the phones at the reduced price, that I would have to pay Retail, continue to pay on time fo...

Existing Customers

The reason when you go to a sprint store why nobody cares about your issues is because existing customers are a liability, we do not get paid on your upgrades, so we insult you so that you leave faster. It doesn't matter to us how long you have been with the company, remember we are sales men, we have quotas and make commission, and hearing you story about how long you have been with sprint doesn't effect me or my pay check. I will continue to get rid of you as fast as possible so that I can help the next person who wants a new line so that I can get paid. So this thing about the upgrade program when you whine us, we don't care, you are a liability to a salesman. Unlike when you go to a T-Mobile or Verizon store they care about you bec...

Just a thought on personal performance......

As a former Sprint employee and after reading the countless comments from others on this forum I have to make a comment.....

What ever happened to pride in your work, the personal satisfaction from performing your job well, to the contentment that you garner from continuing to grow and provide better than the rest?????
I am 45 years old, maybe just getting past my prime but if you accept the responsibility of a job or what ever in life it is to do the best that you can. It takes far more energy to be a miserable person than a happy one. There are very few places that you can work where the customers will ALL BE HAPPY, INFORMED, AND CREDIT WORTHY. If you find one please, again PLEASE let me in on the secret.

I have been in sales f...

Has anyone noticed...?

I was thinking today...
Has anyone noticed that on Phonescoop in particular, the advertisement of GSM devices/services seems to be more prevalent than that of CDMA? I myself notice particularly when it seems every site I visit is devoid completely of Sanyo branded products. What's up with that? After the buy-out is totally complete, there will basically be 4 top cell carriers: Sprint, Verizon, Cingular and T-Mobile... that's two CDMA and two GSM. So why is it that GSM is everywhere on this website? Where I live, almost everyone has Sprint or Verizon... and people who don't have Cincinnati Bell (mostly TDMA or a mixture too, not their GSM). Maybe someone can enlighten me (WITHOUT BEING MEAN). 🙂 Thanks in advance.

Question!?!?!?

Hi,

My gf has a Samsung SPH-N400 from sprint that her mother purchased for her as a graduation gift a little over a year ago. She's havin problems that I just can't explain. I'm not sure what all of them are off the top of my head and she's not here right now to list them for me, so I'll just ask this.

Are there any firmware or software upgrades that she can get from Sprint in order to update? If so, will her contact list, ringers, preferences, etc. be erased by doing this? If they will I'll make sure she backs them up before having the phone upgraded.

This info would be greatly appreciated as she's gettin kinda frustrated with it, and it's really the only way we can communicate for free since she's sans computer and calling her dor...

working at sprint

I see that you guys love working at Sprint. What job do you work at where after 1 year everybody has to take a pay cut? This is the worst company. You never get paid the correct commission, and you have to dispute everything for months. I'm glad they lost the law suit and now how a non chargeback policy, it makes turning customers easy. Working for Sprint is terrible. Wait till it's time for layoffs, you work for a company for year and then they repay you by laying you off. And yes, everybody got a pay cut in March of 10% or greater, this increased commission benefited only len lauer.

Sprint PCS & lockline - Completely Misunderstood!!!!!

Having been an employee of Sprint PCS and a current employee of lockline, LLC, I feel your frustration with the "runaround" you think you have been a victim of, but here's the "real deal"..Sprint PCS contracted with lockline, LLC to administrate the Sprint PCS Equipment Replacement Program (ERP), back in 1996. The program was designed to afford people the opportunity to get their cell phones replaced in the even of Theft, Loss, Breakage, Mechanical & Electrical problems outside of the manufacturer's warranty, as well as water damaged equipment. I apoligize if you feel you have been "misinformed" by the Sprint PCS sales staff and/or Customer Solutions, as well as lockline as to how the coverage works, but, as with most types of "indemnity" pr...

a little help here

I know you can find a way around the system to get your own ringtones with VZ. You can usually download them to your pc and then send them via data cable or data message to your phone. Any loopholes like this with sprint?

Joining Sprint

My brother and I are joining Sprint, but wondering when we should join, I was hoping the new specials would come out first, Aug 29th? or Sept 1st? Was also hoping Sayno would release their latest phone.

Anyhow, as far as phones go, I'm undecided between the Samsung 700, Sayno 4920, or Sayno 7200. What do you think? The speaker phone of the Sayno's are nice, but that Samsung is something else.

Any advise?

Chapel Hill-Which carrier to choose for voice and data?

I'm moving to Carrboro-Chapel Hill. I want a phone with good coverage locally and nationwide as I will be traveling for work. My girlfriend and I will be joining the same carrier if we can get free calls between our two phones. Would a family plan also make sense?

I would also be interested in a data plan so that I can use my phone as a modem for my iBook. Unlimited data would be preferable for a reasonable amount. Bluetooth would be a nice feature but not necessary.

I'm wide open as far which phone to choose. I don't care if it has a camera, but I would like decent email capability.
