Thinking About Switching from Cingular

Hi, I'm thinking about making a change. I've been with Cingular for many years and was very pleased with them before, but have had not good experience with their service of late (that's another story, no disrespect to individual Cingular CSRs who are on this board).

Anyhow, my concern is having decent nationwide coverage. Cingular is tops in that in my area. I saw Sprint's coverage map on their website, and it appears that if you go off the beaten path, it's a lot of analog. I realize I can get a nationwide plan to avoid roaming charges, but how is the call quality? I do occasionally travel outside my urban residence area and go out of state.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

any new phones for sprint coming out?

Verizon's been the buzz lately with the lgvx7000 and the motov710 being released. however, I've been very unsatisfied with Verizon and their services (i.e. not being able to offer free long distance ot Guam when Sprint and Cingular can). When my contract with Verizon is up, I plan to switch to Sprint, but are there any good new phones coming out? I might try out Cingular's 15-day trial period too just to see if I get good reception around my area.

Anyone here in East Tennessee with Sprint PCS?

We've just moved to Knoxville from Nashville, and are having a lot of trouble with our Sprint service. Anyone else having these problems? Thanks.

Toshiba VM4050 - Recontinued?

I was looking on our website a moment ago and I noticed that the Toshiba VM4050 is back on the list of available handsets. I wonder when that happened.

Stevelvl Thanks for the clarification

The additional info you provided on PRL's cleared it up for me. Does Sprint notify customers when a new PRL comes out or do you have to depnd on forums like this one? Again thanks.

I have a Samsung N400 which is not worth ****. it crashes on me, hangs, people cannot hear me half the time. i also have the equipment replacement program, but could not get sprint reps to promise me a different phone. this is the worst phone that sprint has and even they say that it is full of problems that they cannot fix. i was told to look on this website to see if they still carry this phone. i wanna use my equipment replacement, but dont want to get the same phone. any one have any advice?

Famous? Get a free A700.

Wow. That's a hell of a gift. I wish people would give me $400 phones just for being famous.

Of course, that would require me to be famous. Alas, perhaps someday...

RE: PRL FOR N.Y. METRO AREA

Hey Stevelvl
Thanks for the info but I'm still a little confused what will PRL 10023 do as opposed to 10024 if it doesn't increase roaming ability? What PRL should I have curently on my VM4500?

Question about pricing for data.

I have been looking into getting a new pda phone on the Sprint network soon and I have noticed that the price for the internet/pictures/e-mail...etc plans on the Windows based phones are twice as much as the Palm based phones. It is $30 a month for Windows and $15 a month for Palm. Why is this the case?
It will actually work in my favor this way anyways because I am going to be getting the new Treo 650 phone, which luckily for me is Palm OS. Thanks in advance for any insight that you may want to share.

ROAMING ON OTHER NETWORKS

Does anyone know what other cellular networks Sprint has agreements with to enable its customers to roam when off the Sprint network? 🙄

Treo 650 release date.

I was wondering if there is anyone with the inside scoop who works for Sprint or a distributor that wouldn't mind letting us know when the new Treo 650 is going to be released.
I have heard that it is now being Shipped to Palm One from HTC, which is the company that is actually manufacturing the phone. Other than that, I don't know.
Thanks for any info that you might share. It will be greatly appreciated.

Samsung MM-700

I have read this phone has voice functions where you can do digit dial, name dial, status, etc. Does this work off a speaker phone?

Also, can this phone accept small picture files from computer emails?

And does it play .mp3's?

How to Email Picture FIles to Sprint Phones?

How does one go about emailing small pic files (.jpg, .gif, .bmp) to sprint phones.
I know this can be done with Verizon? But has not worked for me thus far with Sprint.

New PDA Phones for Christmas Season? i700??

Does anyone else know any more about Sprint offering a new line of PDA's?

What I know so far is this:
I've been asking the local Sprint Store Reps when they're going to get a new PDA phone and they insist Sprint is coming out with the i700 this Christmas season.
They said Sprint is going to sell the i700 because it will come with Pocket PC 2003 SR2. Samsung wasn't going to supply i700's with PPC 2003 before and Sprint didn't want to go through the upgrade process later on.

New coverage by year's end?

There is supposted to be future coverage in my area, hopefully this year but is it possible that future service can be added in a short period of time?

Does anyone know where to obtain the latest Sprint coverage maps of local areas other than at sprintpcs.com?

Sending Photos to Sprint Phones

I have tried and failed every time to send small picture files (jpg, gif, bmp) to sprint phones via email. I have done the same thing to Verizon phones like the Motorola V710 and it works so you can save these pictures as wallpaper. But for sprint phones, it doesn't work, WHY? Would it work on the Samsung 700?

Future Towers accuracy

If anyone is familiar with the Tower Maps section of sprintpcs.com http://www.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/coverage/to wermaps2.jsp?cityid=85&city=Pittsburgh

This site shows future cell site locations as well as current. My locations is about 2 miles from coverage now, but would be covered under a future tower according to the site.

With Sprint saying they are adding 2,000 new towers this year...would it be expected to see coverage in the Sept.-Oct. time frame? Just wondering if there is a time frame to look for new coverage from Sprint.
