Time to Tango!
Tango is a great multi-platform video calling tool. Plus, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia and a number of other manufacturers are including the client built into their phones.
IMO Tango also works much better over 3g and it is very consistent. It also automatically searches your contacts and automatically lists all the other Tango users. I use it with my wife all the time.
Re: After getting caught,, Google likely wants to play patent troll....
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Did you ever think that maybe Google is just protecting themselves (and Android as a whole) from frivolous lawsuits? Since Apple feels like they can't just compete but must also litigate their competition to submission, I approve of this and hope that this keeps the field fair.

That's interesting...I don't have any of these problems with my iPhone.
Hope you enjoy that lack of 4g & the 3.5 inch screen. Android apps are getting better and better all the time.
I'm upgrading my phone next month & I really considered going with the iPhone but the small screen is a killer for me, but for people with small hands, I guess it's ok.

AT&T purchasing T-Mobile does not equal a monopoly, no matter how you look at it. It wouldn't be a monopoly on cellular service and it wouldn't be a monopoly on GSM. It doesn't matter what phone grandma is using. AT&T is not and never will be a monopoly.
It represents limited customer choice which is representive by an olgiopoly, something that is still prohibited by anti-trust regulations. From a service standpoint, a GSM monopoly can be argued and ...
There goes HP...

Re: LG G2x
That's one of the bugs of known bad G2X's. Get another one for Warranty and save yourself.
You may have a bad battery and some of the custom ROM's have run hot. Are you using SetCPU by chance?

And crappy phones.
Re: Sad but true
WP7 has failed thus because of the lack of options. The existing models, all 4 of them had hardware issues and were limited to specific carriers.
WebOS was certainly beautiful but it lacked a coherent developer framework and that is the reason why it failed to draw any true developer support.
WP7 reminds me of the Xbox 360. Microsoft kept pushing it, they kept fixing their mistakes and they kept trying. Now they are the dominant ...
Re: Sad but true
I've been doing mobile development on all 3 major platforms and I think WP7 is going to take off in the next year and these are the reasons why:
1. Android is hard to develop for and major platform fragmentation is still a very major concern for many developers which is why oftentimes the the Android client is tepid because they are coding for the common baseline which is going to be 2.2 and an 600x400 resolution. This ...
Re: how so?
ESMR support is the biggest thing missing. If this phone was tested in Philly, Sprint has a sweet as network in Philly & ESMR wouldn't be needed really but take it out to Lancaster & see what happens.

By the time that's implemented, this phone will be obsolete and you'd be due for an upgrade anyway.
From what I read Network Vision was supposed to start going live in 2011. I personally wouldn't get a phone without ESMR bands myself... 800hz has too good of building penetration & range to ignore. It's the reason why VZW has such great service.

Phone like the G2X/Sensation for Sprint (Upcoming phones)
While I live in Auckland, NZ I still travel to the USA quite a bit for work. Currently I have a G2X with T-Mobile (unlocked, rooted running CM7 nightly) that I connect to a Sprint MiFi hotspot for data purposes.
My TMO coverage is suspect at best whereas my Sprint MiFi is incredible and because of that I usually have my G2X connected to the Mifi with Wifi calling enabled. Since I can get some fairly heavy discounts ...

The apple being the fruit of Eden was a creation of fiction by Milton in Paradise Lost, it doesn't mention an apple in the Bible.
So Apple targeted the lawsuit at Milton, not God :P
The original fruit was either a pomegranate or the "persian apple", which happens to be a pear.
This really only matters if you believe the Bible is true.

Stupid qustion for you. Does having an unlocked bootloader make rooting easier?
Thw evil controlling ass carriers probably won't allow this.
Jay,
If the bootloader is locked, you cannot root. If you cannot root, you cannot burn a custom ROM like Bionix or CM7.
The carriers are open to an unlocked bootloader because if you send in a device on warrant replacement and they discover you have a rooted that will violate your warranty.
Thankfully SuperOneClick offers a one-click unroot ...

Nice exaggeration. I love when people make businesses out to be the bad guys. Not that there will be some businesses that try that, but on the same coin you can't really blame them. You definitely can't blame a wireless carrier for wanting to protect their assets. This primarily would have effected the carriers right to disconnect or throttle or charge those certain people that break the TOS and tether when they are not supposed to.
When wireless carriers ...
Re: even if we disagree on where the regulation comes from
Very good post.
People don't realise that Regulations are enacted to protect those who otherwise could not protect or represent themselves by guaranteeing a minimum level of service & operations.
Capitalism without regulation or rules is a very dangerous thing because it follows the whoever has the most toys, wins paradigm.
Re: even if we disagree on where the regulation comes from
I would like to hear you elaborate. Corporations operate at profit at all cost whereas the Government...

That's not what the corporations want, and they run the country.
The educated people who objectively consider net neutrality know that it is the best option for the people. The major corporations will use their money to ensure that the uneducated masses are against the idea and will shoot it down.
Welcome to America.
Get out while you still can. I did and it was well worth it.
Re: how can anyone who uses the internet be against net neutrality?
Excellently said. These Corporatists are going to be the death of this country.
Re: bingo!
Too bad it's wrong. The entire premise is that the entire internet is privately owned when it is not.
Re: how can anyone who uses the internet be against net neutrality?
The Internet is public domain though. That is the base of the entire Net Neutrality debate. Corporations like Verizon, Comcast and ATT may manage their network components but the entire base of the internet was funded by the US government through grants & subsidies. This is no different than when ATT was first divested in the early 1980's.
Maybe you should read up on that before you start talking nonsense. And when you get finished reading ...
Re: You just don't get it
I have to laugh at this post and just the overall naivete from the OP.
1. The internet was built off of DARPAnet, which was a network designed to withstand a nuclear holocaust.
2. The vast majority of the internet infrastructure was built off of US Government subsidies. While ATT, Comcast, Verizon, etc may build out the backbone, they are re-paid so to speak by the US & IRS. Government grants were used extensively in the 1990's ...
Re: Leave the nokia fanboy alone
Nokia hardware + Android 3.0 or Win7 = Mobile perfection.
I'm a long time Nokia user and Nokia is by far the best when it comes to hardware but MeeGo & S^3 aren't the answer.
Re: Double Jeopardy?
Civil judgements are awarded the same protections. That only applies to criminal statutes. If collusion causes damage to 10,000 people, all 10,000 people have a right to settle.
Re: something wrong with this picture?
Ok two things:
1. Nokia still sells more phones than all other manufacturers combined. Just because they don't sell well in the US doesn't mean they are about to go bust.
2. Concerning that company they bought, sometimes it is cheaper to buy the company than the IP you want to license.
(IP stands for Intellectual Property)
Is this correct?
So instead of fixing the problem, they change the way the problem is reported? Does this not seem like a cop out? Instead of actually fixing the problem they are just going to report poor signal. Btw, I have had over 50 some phones and this is the first time outside of the RZR/KRZR line that this is so pronounced.
I had just decided that I was going to get an iPhone...
Re: HSPA
I was just in Schaumberg and my Nuron was on HSPA the entire time.
I know it is on the west-side (Schaumberg, Downers Grove, O'hara)... don't know about the city itself though.
I was using a Nokia N900 btw.

Re: Bada and Meego === Failed OS's
LOL
You don't know jack.
First off MeeGo is a cross-development platform leveraging the tools of Moblin (Intel) & Maemo (Nokia) to create MeeGo, a Linux OS.
It's kind like saying "ooh you're running the new .Net OS".
Second, Symbian will be #1 on that list for a very long time. There are over 800 million S60 devices out in the wild with huge markets (Brasil, Europe, Russia, China, & India) all waiting for the release of S^3.
You should really read ...
In 2 years there will be only 3...
It may seem like a lot of fragmentation at the moment but within the next 2 years most of these players will drop off and we will be left with 3 primary MOS with maybe a 4th trying to play catch up.
1. Symbian S60/S^3
I'm running a beta S3 at the moment and it is phenomenal. Stable, fast, full flash on the browser, completely customisable and very finger friendly.
Plus S60 isn't going to be going anywhere either. ...

There should not be provisions to help out consumers trying to cheat the system.
If you try and cheat the system and get caught, YOU PAY. Period.
The reason there is bad press is because people are idiots who will side against companies no matter what because it thinks it helps them.
And then those same consumers will bitch when their choices are removed and suddenly things like Data plans are REQUIRED because of idiots trying to cheat the system.

Re: They do have counter measures in place
Then VZW needs to term service, not charge an unrealistic service charge.
This would only happen in the USA. There are strict consumer laws in place like New Zealand any Europe (my home) that would prevent this from happening and if it did happen it would likely go to mediation.
Some money is better than none which is exactly what VZW is going to get. That and a lot of bad press.

Re: Verizon CEO Seidelberg.....
Its better than the US.
Re: Verizon CEO Seidelberg.....
What kind of person assumes an $18k bill is acceptable when unlimited data plans are available at 100-150 per month.
Here in New Zealand we don't have unlimited plans; our infrastructure couldn't sustain it so if you pay for a 4 GB cap, you are metred and then cut off because if anybody tried anything like that it would simply be uncollected because we don't have oppressive credit systems like the US.
And if the carrier took to public a bill ...
