iAd on Android devices???

I wonder if Google would allow Apple to place their iAd system onto Android devices?

Isn't Google doing the same thing Apple is doing? Purchasing a mobile advertising company so they can produce a greater profit for their company? Why then should they insist on another company allowing them to make money off of their product?

It isn't like AdMob designed, developed and manufactured their own hardware, software AND advertising strategy into one convenient package for consumers. Apple does. Hell, even Google doesn't make their own hardware!!!!

Google makes a TON of money off of Apple as it is with their search engine being the out-of-box default on the iPhone so why shouldn't Apple implement their own advertising system?

Doesn'...

AdMob ,which Google owns, already offers an open source ad mediation tool called AdWhirl which allows ads from other networks and they’ve already added support for iAd.

So yes you will see iAd used in Google apps but not vice versa.

Google is already allowing other ad service to make money and Apple is also allowing other ad companies to make money as long as their name isn’t AdMob.

My personal option as to why they are "blocking" AdMob is due to the data they release to the public showing what percent of people are using any given mobile OS and some of their lasted numbers showed Android catching up fast. So if they get rid of AdMob on Apple device there is no way to get these numbers and Apple can tell us whatever the...

go buy a Yahoo Android phone (Look no further than the Backflip).

No Google at all. Bing. Yahoo. No Google.

Why would iAd be different?

You can't call out Google for being a hypocrite on this one.

Unless you can show hard proof that, in the legalese that big companies love, more or less says no iAd.

Otherwise... big... pile... of bull#*$& flag called on that play.

ATT removed everything related to Google on the Backflip. Are names really necessary?

Only if you want to be correct! Google designed and created the android operating system ... regardless of what AT&T has put on their phones. So by eliminating Google from the android is like eliminating Apple from the iphone. No problem in calling it JUST android, but YAHOO android is a HUGE error and a potential lawsuit!

Yes!!! Both the software & hardware is FK'd up on the Backflip. Think about it, the frinkin camera lens is built into the keyboard.

Anyway, I have the Moto Droid now, I love this smartphone!!!

actually having the camera in the same area as the keyboard is a pretty fantastic thing. because of the way the 'deformed' keyboard flips out you have a forward and backward facing camera without compromising any megapixel.

i understand if you dont care for a phone, but just because you don't like it doesnt mean it's a piece.

so a huge portion of the OS is gone.

It's also on 1.5 (most other motoblur devices are at least 1.6) so it's missing a ton of apps, you can't instal third party apps from anywhere but the marketplace, etc.

I don't touch the stuff... saw your mom after a few months of the stuff...

not really. Stupid comments like that are well... stupid.

I'm pretty sure I"m not going to be sued... for calling the travesty that is the BackFlip... the Yahoo Android phone.

You *TOTALLY* ignored the entire premise of the reply in relation to the original post:

Original Poster says go after Google for keeping others off of it's platform, while Google allows others do do pretty much whatever they want with Android... including WHOLEFULLY removing Google from it.

Remove head from sphincter.

Might make the world easier to see, and a less smelly place.

has nothing in their agreements preventing apple from creating iAd advertisements for android. but apple won't do it because iad is their advertising for their platform.

this is VERY different from admob, which is a cross platform advertising medium. Google didn't buy admob to make android ad settings specifically.

In fact, if you watched their developers conference, they didn't talk about admob ONCE when it came to developing ads for mobile devices (they were using competing platforms).

Apple bought Quattro to control as much of the advertising as possible on their mobile device. Google bought admob to integrate their entire ad platform into the mobile environment (not just android).

And where was your complaining when apple ...

My biggest point is this; Apple can do whatever they want with thier device. They designed the hardware and software specifically so the end-user gets the smooth, easy and streamlined experience they have tried to create.

I am surprised that Google (who owns AdMob now), with the success they have had with Android, has stooped to the level of trying to strong-arm their way into staying on Apple iOS platform. The government has no business being involved with any of this situation.

Also, from my understanding, Google can continue advertising on iOS as long as they do not collect customer information. I could be wrong on that.

And where was I when Apple sued HTC?

The licensing arrangement with Google keeps them from getting sued directly. That's why Microsoft went after HTC , and that's likely why Apple's going to go after Motorola, Samsung, LG, etc. after the HTC lawsuit is won.

Google is about ads, they're not about one OS. (though they are pushing android a lot).

They want their ads to be seen by as many people as possible. Android helps this, but it isn't all they're doing.

This isn't strong arming either. This is a company trying to figure out why a good chunk of their ad revenue is suddenly gone, when the people they were selling the plan to (the developers) arn't the ones telling them it's not allowed.

What apple is doing would be like Microsoft dictating what in game advertising is allowed for games made for their system (aka, tony hawk can only put in game ads for coke in their games, NOT pepsi)

It would be more like Microsoft dictating what information about thier customers the coke/pepsi ads are gathering...

I think we are all forgetting that AdMob can still advertise as long as it follows the rules.

I think you're forgetting that advertising is POINTLESS without analytics. So while admob can still technically advertise, it's like hog tying someone and telling them that they can still try to swim if they really want to.
