after a few

Aug 22, 2004 by AVIOUS2001

I've had the phone for a few days now and heres how I feel:

Pro's :
-Enormous color screen
-Slightly better signal strength than other VZW phones I've use3d
-Great speaker phone
-Excellent VR technology
-Loud ringers
-mp3 ringers
-bluetooth headsets ( i have a jabra bt200) works great with it
-camera and video recording
-additional memory with trans flash
-even though the phone is quite large its not overly thick so it can sit comfortably in a pocket.

Cons:
- Keypad configuration takes getting used to
- bluetooth only compatible for now with headsets and car handsfree(ie: Acura TL)
-When camera is not in ideal lighting the resolution is horrific, its pure crap.
-Camera flash is sub par for other phones in this class.

V710 - Moto's Back!

Aug 3, 2004 by VzwSlsRp

After having used a number of Motorola phones, ranging from the original StarTAC, to the T730, I have to say this is the phone that's going to redeem Motorola for past failures (T720). This phone has every feature I could ever want -- Finally, a flip phone with a decent speakerphone (best one I've heard so far). This thing gets signal in places that I never could call out before (Sacramento area, VZW svc) and I have yet to drop a call!

The camera is better than the lg 6000 and, interestingly enough, the picture quality is better on the receiving end of pix msgs. Why, I'm not entirely sure.

The video is an interesting concept and more of a novelty for me. I don't have any practical use for it, but a nice toy nonetheless.

I also use the Bluetooth headset, which is amazing -- far easier to set up than I thought it would be.

My only complaint is that the earpiece volume is a tad quiet compared to what I'm used to. Not a big deal.

In short -- if you have the money, BUY THIS PHONE! It's definitely worth it.

V710

Aug 5, 2004 by yz450fman

I have the vx7000 and the v710 and so I can tell you that both phones have there good and bad points. The v710 is a very good phone with room to grow with software upgrades. Have no fear with this phone, The blue tooth is awsome for wireless conversations and the voice dial is awsome as well. Would the vx7000 be a better phone if it had blue tooth, speaker phone, mp3 player and the other features missing? Sure it would as it already is a great phone but the fact is that it does not have them so this is why I put Moto at a 4.5 as I did with the VX7000.

FOOLS!!!!!!

In response to everyones comments "boo hoo I don't buy the whole 'it's a phone first and a camera second'", you people are lame. How many other carriers have video phone capabilities? It just so happens that Verizon has the balls to try things first. New technology equals new issues to handle. You are the fools that are going out and buying this new tech gear expecting everything to work 100% right out of the box. I work for a cellular provider (not verizon), and we are actually beta testing these phones which are going to be launched in about a month. I for one have seen the phone and used all of it's features. Sure the camera isn't going to be the same as a regular digi cam but what do you expect for it being attached to the back of a frickin cell phone. Customers have become a bunch of spoiled babies. Half of you probably never took the time to even figure out the functionality of the phone. I for one agree that the phone could have a little bit better camera in it, but the overall functionality of the phone is incredible. BTW, I work in tech support for this unnamed wireless carrier and have already fielded calls from our markets that are beta testing the service. Our number one call right now.....is customer ignorance. Take the time to read your damn owners manual and get to know the phone. Some of you have only owned the phone for 1-2 days. I bet you didn't even crack the owners manual. Just started pushing buttons and got mad because you screwed up the phone.

Overall suggestion: if you are a tech head then get the phone. The technology will be there within a few months and people will be pissed that they didn't wait. This phone is destined to be sick.

P.S. just to prove a point to some of you "fools" out there.....they put the spell check on this page for a reason...so 5 year olds can get a gold star too. USE IT!!!

"Cool" phone, not a "Business" phone

Aug 16, 2004 by mwilgar

If you're looking for "cool", even with the lousy indoor picture quality, I'd say this is generally a good phone. But for $400 I was looking for something more than just "cool" - it should be working real hard to make me more productive, which is why I needed Bluetooth. But Bluetooth means more to me than just a wireless headset - it should be able to work with contacts and other files on my PDA, which this phone doesn't. Strike one.
OK, on to plan "B" - the "Data Cable"... Um, $50 for a piece of wire!? Excuse me, but didn't I just pay $400 for a phone that should have this functionality? If the Bluetooth isn't fully functional, then at least the data cable should be included. Strike two.
Plan "C" - at the Verizon store (Pittsford, NY), while buying the phone I asked them to either toss in the cable, or at the least transfer my contacts from the old phone to the 710. "Nope, that'd take, like, 4 hours, or, like, more, and it's, like, $10, 'cause I have to get the techs to, like, do it." [This from the Verizon salesperson who felt it would be a good idea to lay his head down on the counter and make snoring sounds in the middle of my transaction. OK, not the phone's fault, just a bit of a Verizon lack-of-customer-focus rant there.] Strike three.
(Since this is the only phone that comes close to what I need, I didn't stop at three strikes...)
Plan "D" - the transflash card - Ordered from Amazon. Backordered, scheduled to ship in about 6 weeks.

Conclusion... after spending $400 I shouldn't have to be trying to figure out what Plan "E" is.
Motorola / Verizon - "cool" is nice, but next time please shoot a bit higher.

almost there

OK, after reading the reviews here I decided to buy this phone. This is what I have discovered:

-- Bluetooth
The bluetooth feature of this phone is severely crippled. It will only work with bluetooth accessories like a headset some PDA's and in car connections. For those unfamiliar this is less than 20% of bt capability. This phone will not transfer any data. This is not a mac or pc issue (or even moto for that matter) but a verizon one. They have many of the functions turned off. Here's hoping for a firmware upgrade.

-- Reception
Simply the best reception I have had from any phone

-- Camera
Who cares? It is a phone! Indoor pics leave a lot to be desired, but outdoor is fine.

-- Sound Quality
The earpiece is highly directional. Must be centered on the ear to hear well.

-- Display
Great display - WHEN NOT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT

I gave it 2 stars because of the halfway usable bluetooth.

A STEP BACKWARD AS A PHONE

Aug 14, 2004 by samkatz

Had the phone for 48 hours. Bluetooth headphone on order.

While there's a lot I like about this phone..the bottom line is that the sound quality of both the handset and speakerphone are poor, and god help you if you try to use this phone w/o looking at the keys...the keypad is flat..no differentiation between the important keys(send/end/navigation) and the rest of the key pad

PRO's:
Beautiful main screen.sharp, good color and contrast.
Excellent PIM tools -calender,alarm
Menus and buttons customizable
Good reception
Web Browser -mobile web 2...big improvement over old browser. Mine works well
size - not to big for me. I hate tiny phones.

Con's
Worst sound quality I've heard-not (I have no problem w/the volume..it's tinny)
Keypad- very hard to use one handed. Keys poorly differentiated. no tactile response.
Weird backlighting
External screen fuzzy

Not rated:
Camera, mp3 player...
Haven't had time to try..don't really care about these features.

Crap!

Oct 24, 2004 by BigHam16

This is by far the worst phone i have ever owned.

Sound quality is crap. Battery life is very minimal expecially if you use bluetooth.

Big Problem with the chargers. Motorola has a poor design for there charging ports on the phone. This little three prong nonsense needs to stop. I have owned four motorola phones. All of these phones except one had the charging port break lose and essentially become unfunctional. The only one that didnt was my StarTac (different set up)

The Camera! WHAT A JOKE! 1.3 Megapixels? A blind person could see that isnt a 1.3 megapixel picture. Its a shame that Motorola made a big hype about this failure of a phone. Verizon...SHAME ON YOU for even allowing this to be marketed.

This is truely the biggest waste of $400 bucks. As soon as the charging port broke...i traded for a LG VX-7000
