LG VX4400 - not too bad

Sep 26, 2003 by Ari Tapper

All in all, for a flip phone this is not a bad one. However, if you are going from a non-flip phone to this, expect some degradation in reception. I got this phone after a year with the Kyocera 2235. Now, I lose calls where I had just a low signal previously. Also, the benefits of Analog capabilities seem to be lost on this phone. The signal strength must be pretty high for the phone to make the necessary connection. Other than that, the features are pretty good. Unlike some, I enjoy the various ringtones. It's more unique. Volume is good and I always get compliments on the clarity from the people I'm calling - most don't realize I'm on a cell phone.

All in all, I agree with most of the ratings... this is an above average phone which should serve you well.

Not Great , But has all the Toys

This is not the best phone on the market right now. I sell these phones for a living and my mother also has it.
If you live in a place where signal strength is an issue avoid this phone get a Motorola v60 series phone or a koycera.
On another note the phone performs fine in most markets and has a nice screen good battery performance for a color screen and the front screen colors and blue keypad make it nice to read and look at.
Get it now is nice for ringers.
If u love LG and want a phone hold out till early july for the vx6000 camera phone its smaller and should be alot better on signal

Love the phone but....

This is a great phone and you can get it at Verizon right now for $49.99 after rebate with a 2 year contract. It has everything you would want EXCEPT speaker phone. I love this phone and I love LG but I really want speaker phone. See what you can do for me next time guys. All in all, you will not be disappointed by buying this one!!

I was disappointed

I presently own an LG 510 and have loved it for almost 2 years. I was therefore excited when LG came out with its premier color phone. I immediately ran out to buy it. After having the phone for 2 days I was disappointed. While the phone's reception and battery life appeared good, there were several "little things" that made the phone very annoying to own. First, you know those cute tunes you can choose to use as your ringer. Well... you have no "choice" at all. You MUST use them, as there is no standard ringer at all. It has been removed from the phones option list and replaced by the annoying "door bell" type sounds or songs (twinkle, twinkle, I believe). The next problem is the volume. Even the lowest setting is REALLY LOUD. So you cant even turn down the annoying rings. The next problem was a totally ridiculous design flaw. I like to use the vibrate mode along with a low to moderate volume ringer. Not on this phone. With the 4400 if you want to use the vibrate function, it is only available with either no ringer at all, or high volume ringer setting. The color was cool to look at and the games were fun for my kids, but the combination of all the above simply made the phone more annoying than fun. I returned it after 2 days and reactivated my 510. It's good to be home.

Not So Great

There are some aspects about this phone that I like, such as the color screen, the easy to navigate menus, the size and the feel. But there are a couple of problems that I feel are serious enough to switch to another phone.

I am on my third 4400, and each one has a high pitched background noise that is there as long as the phone is on. If you are in a noisy area like outside or in a car you won't notice, but if you are in a quiet room it is definately annoying. The problem sounds like the same problem the Motorola V60i had, discussed on the verizon news group from this site "V60i white noise".

The other issue I had with this phone is the reception is not that great. My friend has a TM510 and he gets better reception than I do.

10+

Everything about this is great. Sorry Motorola, your T720 can't win over the LG VX4400!

I love it

I like this phone. I purchased the T720 and I have a few issues with it the LG 4400 has great features. This little phone does so much! I play on the phone constantly . There is one thing it does have some software issues, it goes in and out of analog a lot. But overall it's one of the best phones Verizon Wireless offers.

GREAT SOUND USER FRIENDLY

Of all current phones this one has excellent audio quality and nice sleek design with easy navigation, durable yet compact. Very satisfied with my purchase of this phone seeing how i was reluctant at first do to issues with the v111 and tm510

FYI

like my prior remark stated great phone. I was reading some of the reviews and the first software version of this phone did have some bugs, but as you can see (by the average rview rating) they have been correct since late march. I do work for Verizon and know that LG came out with new software to fix some of the early bugs. Im not trying to sell Verizon just recommending this phone, highly.

Digital is good, analogue is very very bad

The phone works ok in digital mode, but if you go into a building, get a poor signal, switches to analoge mode . .the phone crashes and reboots.

When using the phone in analogue mode, the phone crackles, the screen flickers on and off and sometimes reboots.

Maybe they should test this phone before they sell it. These are common problems.
