pocketchange submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

New Here, so bare with me.
I'm not to the point of wanting to deal with the outlay
($'s) necessary to get into a newer cell phone.
No contract is a positive (to me anyway).
My VX4400 has had a rough life and other than using up batteries on a regular annual basis, I have no problems with this very nice cell phone, it takes a licken and keeps on ticken.
It lives in my shirt pocket and has lived through hitting the pavement on more than a few occasions.
The 4400 is a simple to use, good basic unit and I'm on the lookout for another one.
Thanks to EBay, finding whatever you need is out there and you don't have to deal with the service provider.
Oh! how nice !!!
The LG VX4400 fits my needs very nicely.
Thank You,
pc

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

snowanimal submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

This phone was a good phone to start off with. It doesn't have to many features, so it is pretty simple. The sound through the earpiece could be better! It also has neat features that light up when it rings, but it doesn't get annoying at times.
Pros: Cool lights when it rings
Good Reception
Easy to Use

Cons: Earpiece sound not great
Speaker sound even worse
Lights can be annoying
Ringtones not very loud.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has all the basic features i needed but i wanted an upgrade to something with bluetooth and a camera (got the vx8300, DO NOT GET IT YOU USE A BLUETOOTH HEADSET A LOT!!! IT SUCKS). i enjoyed this phone while it worked 2 months before i got my new phone, my inside screen went blank, just all white. Then, the phone wouldn't turn on. I switched back over to my vx6000 and used that until my vx8300 came in. it was a good phone when it worked.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has a large outer LCD. And the inner LCD is very very sharp. Not like the 720 with the LCD that lookes very dim. At verizon I had the choice between the Samsung A530, Motorola T720 and the Lg 4400. the Vx4400 was by far the best choice for me! The oly thing you have to get used to is the desktop charger!

Pros: Large Sharp inner LCD
Large outer LCD
Just a nice phone over all!

Cons: Poor ringer choice

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Sensible submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

This is an old model, but the two even older digitals I had were better thought out. That, and Radio Shack's incomplete repair are why I'm shopping for a new phone. And why I should probably avoid my local Radio Shack as well.

Design:
The button for ring modes is on the outside, with no lock. Press up against something in your pocket and you've gone from normal to vibrate or even no-ring mode!

Who can always answer a phone in 15-20 seconds? I did find one tune that lasts about 25 seconds. There are NO long ringers that actually sound like a phone. I don't know if anything saner can be downloaded at extra cost, but apparently Verizon charges us just to find out. (I understand providers want to get dump unanswered calls off their facilities as quickly as possible, but most ring lengths are ridiculous. Especially when driving. Even hands-free, how can you safely always answer in 15 seconds?)

Memo recording. The phone doesn't record your memo -- it leaves it on Verizon's server. Costs you minutes and retrieval is inconvenient at best (and if you're outside a reception area...?).

I have limited experience with the Wireless Web, but in one attempt to navigate menus to a popular information service, I met with dead-end menus.

Outside window cracked. Obviously I stopped stuffing other things into my pocket.

Using car accessory power killed the phone, requiring battery to be momentarily removed in order to resurrect it. Radio Shack repaired the window but forgot to repair this.

One good thing, and the reason I got it: It includes analog. Yes, analog cells rare, and it sounds like AM radio in a thunderstorm, but what good is a mobile phone you can't travel with? It's good enough to retrieve your land-line messages or make an emergency call. Unfortunately, my former first choice of replacement, another highly rated phone by another mfr and recommended by a Radio Shack salesperson as having analog... doesn't.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

indagroove submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I had this model for over two years. I loved this phone. The only issue was the loudness of the ringers. There was only one ringer I could really hear when driving my truck.

I first got it when I was away spending time in a hospital when my father was very sick. I has a sprint with no coverage, and I needed to go on-line with my laptop to remote into my system at work.

So I switched to Verizon and the 4400. I used it as a modem on my laptop, and it worked great from the family comfort suite at the hospital where I stayed for a week.

While one might find a little cheaper plan then verizon, I probably never switch. I now have family plan with wife and 14yo daughter.

The phone served my well. I just upgrade to the 8100, which is much more awesome.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tommyleec submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Well it has almost been two years since I first got my VX4400 and it has performed great from the beginning. I love the VX4400's features and menus. I especially love the outer LCD screen. You don't have to open the phone to get the most important info like who's calling, reception level, time and date and even battery level.

The only bad thing I can say about the VX4400 is the ringers, they suck! But that is easy to fix with GetItNow or by just ordering a data cable from EBay. The data cable along with BitPim (free program easily found on a google search) allows for easy uploads of midi files that can be used as ringtones.

Two years ago when I got the phone, the selling point for me was its tri-mode ability. The VX6000 was the phone I originally was going to purchase, mainly because of its camera. But because it was all digital, the VX4400 won out. Now looking back, I hate the VX6000's outer display and was happy I got the VX4400.

Time is near for a new phone, although I can't tell you which model I will decide on, I can tell you it will be a LG something.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I previously had nokia and motorola phones and this has been the best phone I've ever owned. It's very durable- I have beat the hell out of this phone! I cracked the plastic display by slamming it on a corner, also have dropped it many times on cement, carried it in my purse without a case....you get the picture. Organizer is great, I use the schedule all the time.

The ringtones do suck but I just downloaded good ones. I wish it had speaker phone, that would be my biggest complaint. I've had people tell me they hear an echo but I have no idea if that is the phone's fault or US cellular.

I'm scared to get a new phone because I like this one so much.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The second day i had this phone the external screen cracked. (Don't put this phone in your pocket...in fact, if you want it to last you had better carry it in your hand with a weak grip 24/7 and never set it down...) I previously owned the 3200. It was kind of plain and boring, but overall a better phone.

PROS-
easy to use. for the most part.
good backlight

CONS-
lacks durability
terribly bulky
earpiece is very quiet
overly touchy side buttons

OVERALL-
If I were you I'd keep searching.

Potato submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I used this phone for the past 2 years for both personal and business functions. I have never felt the need to upgrade from this phone until I renewed my contract and they basically threw a new Motorola E815 at me for free.

Pros: This phone is robust. I've dropped this phone numerous times on busy streets. The only damage it's suffered are some superficial nicks to the casing.

I tend to have no problems with sound quality with 1 of 4 bars of signal and the volume setting was adequate for easy conversation and taking a call in a crowded area.

I used to live in NC and traveled around the southeast, the west coast, and finally moved to the Midwest. There's only been once place I've had my calls completely dropped, which is ~20 miles from the edge of any major city. Everywhere else, the phone has worked fine, across the US, using the Verizon Network.

The battery performs as advertised. I only charge my phone twice a week unless I have had a busy week call wise.

Cons: Sometimes the battery will give the low battery warning right before it dies, but usually gives you a few minutes to find a charger.

The software initially gave me trouble due to the numerous, but I got used to it after a month. Lots of options for those that care (I don't).

Somewhat heavy for a phone. Usually don't have a problem carrying it around in my pocket, but it's a noticeable load on my belt when I use the holster.

The last complaint I have is that if you somehow got onto the roaming network, it takes awhile to get back onto the normal network even if you turn the phone on and off.

I originally picked this phone b/c I wanted a robust flip phone that had good sound quality for business, but was also robust enough shell and battery wise for travel and personal use. It lived up to my expectations and I will be sad when I stop using it next week.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

susansunshine submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I LOVE my 4400, so much that when it came time to upgrade last month I wasn't ready to give it up yet. Verizon ran a Mother's Day promotion; buy one 6100 for $49.95 and get second one free, so we decided to go for it. My husband was more than ready to trade in his VX10 for a color & speaker phone. After activating both new phones, I had them re-activate my 4400. I LOVE the color feature that allows you to assign a different color to incoming calls, missed calls, standby, etc. I especially like the 'Dynamic' choice which comes out with at least 7 different colors one right after the other. At night, it reminds me of a flashing neon sign. This is the ONLY phone with that unique feature. I really cannot find anything I don't like about my 4400.

PROS- I LOVE the LOUD ringers! Rarely miss a call which is sooo important to me.
I like the alarm and use it when I travel.
I like the voice memo, and the scheduler. I have NO problems with the ringer choices as others have stated in their reviews. I have great reception, and sound quality. I love the exterior of this phone, but keep it protected with a leather case. I have received excellent service from Verizon, too.

CONS- I can't find anything negative, but one feature that would've been nice would have been to made it a speaker phone. But, if I feel the need for that feature, I will have my 6100 activated. AND, I am thinking of adding another line, so then I would have the best of both worlds.

Did I mention that I LOVE this phone???

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Tri-Mode - This allows signal to be picked up in many places

3. Antennae extends for stronger signal

4. Great Reception and Coverage

Cons: Buttons on side can be easily pushed while in pocket -- it would be nice to have a cover to slide over and back from the buttons

2. Verizon Wireless does not have service for blocking, read ack and informational alerts with this cell phone although LG has the services on this phone

3. Plastic cover over digital text can scratch fairly easily

4. No camera but this could also be considered a pro if you need to go to a place where camera phones are not allowed

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

WonderDude submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I've owned this phone for almost a year and 10 months now. And it's been pretty good up until about a month ago. For some reason the phone has trouble with reception at the point of trying to connect. Another words, the phone displays 5 and 6 bars. But then when I try to call, it momentarily looses complete connection for about 5 secs or so. This is annoying when you're in a hurry to call someone. :-(

The rants and raves below pertain to the time when the phone was still working well...

Pros...
~Nice looking
~Reliable
~Good reception
~Games
~Holds 199 entries with multiple numbers and one email
~Fits on my belt
~reasonable battery life

Cons...
~Side buttons are easy to hit when trying to answer phone. This is bad because if you hit either of them more than once, the caller will be cut off. I have missed a few calls this way.
~Must remove phone from belt clip to open
~Somewhat slow downloads
~No camera
~Older technology

It's been a reasonable phone. And I would still consider LG.

Happy Hunting! ;-)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

shaman03ms submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

When looking for service I needed to find a phone that was compatible with digital hearing aids. The LG 4440 was rated in consumer reports as a very good quality phone with good sound, clarity, and volume controls. I went with US Cellular in Madison, WI. This phone has maintained great sound, picture and function. However, once the Battery came in contact with moisture, a dramatic decline in the battery life! I have had this phone for 1 1/2 years and still going strong.

I would recommend this phone to any one that has hearing aids.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Phones in the early 1980's worked for several years. As they became smaller, perfectly working phones were replaced with smaller/lighter models. Over the past four years each year I am forced to replace my phones because they fail shortly after the warranty expires. It is ironic that cell phones break each year at the time your wireless contract expire. My LG vx4400 is just about dead. I am tired of bad wireless service and broken phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Sabre150 submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I must say I'm a bit tainted in that my particular phone had terrible reception(verizon). My wife had a Nokia basic model that worked fine in my home, I borrowed a friends VX4400 that worked ok in my home, and my new 6100 works great(all verizon). I definitely had a lemon, with that said (and assuming the reception of my friends VX4400).

Pros:
* Memory for 200 entries in phone book.
* Very Sturdy solid construction (built better then my 6100)
* All the phone basics are covered.
* 1 or 2 key speed dial is a great feature
* Can assign 1 position of the middle 5 way button to a custom menu item
* Always sounded great
* Tri mode is a plus. Definitely went into analog more then once.

Cons:
* Middle 5 way button would be more useful if 4 were custom assigned.(they assign one to get it now ... WHY? how often does one use this .. I guess they have to make money also)
* Didn't have a positive click on the OK button (the middle of the 5 way button)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Sweetpea6497 submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Got the LG-VX4400 as an upgrade from my old Audiovox. Must say, I'm one of those people that does NOT like change, and fully expected to hate this phone. But, once I had it activated and in my hand, it was hard to dislike. The LG-VX4400 is a sturdy, well made phone. I know this because I dropped mine about a million times, on everything from carpet to pavement..HARD, and it never broke or cracked the casing, and the screen was never scratched or damaged. Easy to open, even with one hand. Keys are soft, and placed so that theyre easy to operate and text with. Screen is nice and bright, menus are VERY easy to work through. Battery life was real good with a talk time of at least 2 and a half hours. Got it through Verizon, I live in the Cinci area of Ohio, and service was awesome EVERYWHERE I went..even out of Ohio. Used the phone for two years, and probably had maybe 5 dropped calls in all that time. Volume is loud and clear also..
There is no speakerphone (which isnt a bad thing if you dont use the feature anyway), and the vibrate feature isnt that great because you can barely feel it when an incoming call is received.

PROS:
VERY sturdy, durable phone.
Nice bright screens, large display.
Keys placed so easy to text.
Menus easy to work through.
Awesome call clarity, and reception.
Side key one touch "manner mode" for quick switch.
Good volume control.
Fairly good battery life.

CONS:
Ring tones arent so great. There isnt even one that sounds "professional"
Vibrate feature NOT so great. Very light vibration, can barely feel it, and if its on a belt clip or in a case, you wont feel it at all.
No Speaker phone.
Antenna bends easily.

All in all, I think this is an AWESOME phone, and highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for something basic, sturdy, durable and dependable.
If youre looking for frills (camera phone, video phone, speakerphone) Id go with the LG-VX7000. My boyfriend has it, and he LOVES it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I'm very glad they've taken this phone off the market, cuz I can't even bring up how many flaws this phone has!!

Pros-
Great phone of its time picture was nice for the first wave of color graphics

nice affordable price

very durable

Cons-
horrible speaker quality
picture contrast keeps getting messed up after making a call and having to readjust it.
my text message works only about %50 of the time. otherwise it'll just say "message could not be delivered: General Problems

It was fun for it's time, but it's definitely time to move on, glad this is taken off the market!! I hope the 6100 is better!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am on my third one and I have only had it for a year. And honestly none of the times that i had to have it replaced was of my own fault. The only plus side to this phone is get it now and the fact thats it has a color screen.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chatterbox64 submitted this review of the LG VX-4400:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The LG VX4400 is a fairly good phone overall.
Pros: Decently large, bright screen
Easy to use, very intuitive
External screen is nice
Keypad is nice & tactile (bright blue backlit buttons)
Quite customizable, lots of options
Good build quality
External screen stays lit when charging (this is actually a plus because you can find your phone in the dark)

Cons: Thick & bulky
Vibrate is VERY weak
Loudest ringer is still too QUIET
Takes nearly 25 seconds to turn on
Annoying external antenna
In calls, echoes in background
Short battery life (extended battery may fix this)
Ringtones are...terrible, horrible, no good, and very bad
Alarm won't work when phone is off
Charging the battery takes for...e...ver
No speakerphone
Limited selection of faceplates
Doesn't come w/ any games
Front cover is easily scratched

In the end, I can recommend this phone. However, you should know that you will probably miss quite a few calls with this phone. This is because the ringers are too quiet and the vibrate is too weak (especially if it's in a belt clip). Also, it may put itself on silent (or Normal or Manner Mode) while in your pocket. The Vibe & Ring is a joke, because by the time it finishes vibrating, the person is about to hang up. You just have to decide what's important to you: Receiving calls ALL of the time, or everything else.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
