speaker work with phone closed?...

I tried the phone yesterday at the verizon store.....Someone had mentioned on the forum, that with the phone closed, using just the outside phone.....that the speakers could be heard.....we could not get the phone to do that.....and to me,to have to open the phone while driving to be able to use the speakerphone,is ridiculous....

Possible Voice Command Bug...

I may have discovered a bug. Using the Voice Command feature the announcer's voice doesn't always come through.

On the VX9800 if the phone is in Vibrate, it stays in quiet mode, which is understandable, also you can set a Speed/Normal setting for Voice Command, which means you have the option to hear the announcements.

With the phone not being in vibrate and the setting in Normal, 9800 still misses the announcements once in a while... S

Played with the 9800. My thoughts on why I like the 8100 better.....

I went into my local Verizon store today and played with the 9800 for quite some time. I love my 8100 but always like to check out the new latest and greatest and knew deap down that if this phone blew me away, I would probably get it. Well, it didn't and I didn't and here are my reasons as to why and my thoughts about it in general........... (see disclaimer at bottom)

It is kind of cool if your looking for a toy. Other than that, I wouldn't choose it for a phone. It was about the size I was expecting, but still bulky. The outside key pad had tiny keys and I didn't like the feel. Outside screen was good, but not as good as the 8100. Another thing I considered about the "candy bar" style is you would have to lock the keys to avoid unwante...

What does Auto Volume do?

There is little info online about this feature and their manual is not helpful either.

What does Auto Volume do? Besides the obvious, I mean does it actually adjust the mic and speakers during all conversations, including speaker phone? Any detail info would be appreciated?

[ Plans w/VCAST & Mobile Web 2.0 ]

I'm getting this phone in about a week. I've never had a phone that I have used the web on.. just phone calls, text messaging, and Get It Now. So, this will be my first. I'm on a family share plan so I've got all of that straightened out.. what I'm wondering is what will I need to add to my plan to be able to use this at its fullest without being charged per minute. I want whatever I get to be unlimited. I'm not too knowledgable on the whole VCAST/Mobile Web 2.0 thing.. but I have seen that the VCAST is $15 per month and the Mobile Web 2.0 is $5 per month. Do I need to get both and pay $20 oer month or just get VCAST? If anyone could shed some light I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Getting the 9800 in the Future

My contract isn't up till next August, but if this phone is available then, I am getting it. I wish I could get it now, but that is not an option. I need to wait till my contract is up. That way I can get the $100 off it. I am just hoping that it has good reception in many places considering it has an internal antenna.

9800, or SK II ?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a phone to be able to use for text messaging and web broswing, as well as (probably) personal e-mail.

I've got VZW and TMO service, so, I could go with either this phone, or the Sidekick II.

How do the two of these stach up in a shootout?

THANKS!

David

Web Browsing Memory: How to expand Cache?

Even though the VX9800 is not a PDA, it does surf the web. However the cache fills up too quickly, not good for more than 1 page. This makes no sense, since the phone has an internal memory of 128mb. Is there a way to increase the browsing memory? TIA 🙂 S

Ringtones and Mp3s

I recently purchased the new Samsung A970, and unless it's a hidden feature, I was disappointed by the fact that I could not use the Mp3s that I stored on my TransFlash card as ringtones. I have not yet tried it, but as a way around this, I considered using the built in recorder and record part of the song while playing it on another device. Obviously this is not the ideal way to do it, and the quality will likely be pretty bad. Has anyone found a similar issue with Ringtones on the LG 9800? I was considering switching to it.

Also, along the lines of Mp3s, do you have to have the LG open to use Mp3s? I read that someone said the speakerphone is muffled when the phone is closed. Is it truly? and are Mp3s the same (muffled) when the phone ...

Note to LG: Offer Font Size or Zoom Options and...

I am loving this phone so far, the battery life is getting better and the features, reception and sound quality are simply brilliant.

However it's not all rosy in the garden of this customer:

LG Executives and Engineers Please correct the following in your next software upgrade:

1:
Problem:
The new screen is truly beautiful to look at, but it has a major software flaw, the fonts are not resize-able. Imagine if you bought a PC screen and could only look at all the text at font size 6? This is truly ridiculous and needs to be addressed immediately. My crappy and old Moto T720 offered a zoom feature, why not LG? How can a company that makes a product for people in all parts of the world, assume that everyone has 20...

Sound / Volume

When you play Mp3s on this phone is it much louder than 8100?

How does the volume / sound quality compare?

Front display question

One thing I'm not a big fan of with this phone is how the time on the front display is TINY. Does anyone know of a way to enlarge that? That really puts a damper on using it as a quick way to tell the time while you are hustling down the street.

Some final Pre Sales Questions.....

Ok, I go to school in a very small town, less than 45K people...the closest store which carries this phone is 100 miles away (no joke)....so basically if I choose to get this phone (via mail order), it will be sight unseen.

Most of my questions have been answered already from this and other sites, thank you very much for all of your input....I do still have some further questions....

If I want to connect the 9800 up to my computer. My computer doesn't have BT, but I can purchase a dongle to take care of that....What I would like to know is what is the best way to connect; via a BlueTooth interface or via a USB cable? If the USB cable is used, which one would I get (once again I have to mail order all of this stuff).

Also for the M...

Text Size when composing a message

Well my eyes are not what they should be but even with glasses the text is so darn small when composing a message. Another poster wrote this and I confirm that it is the one thing that stopped me from buying this phone. Even with the font display setting on LARGE (unless there is a hidden setting for composing (or reading messages) the text was so small.

The other thing that prevented me from buying it was the inability to use the speakerphone while closed.

I do not see why a firmware upgrade in the future could correct (if they desire), the font size issue.

As for the spacing of the keys. It is a bit awkward but I am sure you would get used to that just as you would on any similar keyboard phone.

Thanks, Peter

MP3/Movie Headphones?

Has anyone found a pair of headphones/buds that work on the 9800? I tried two 2.5 mm buds (JABRA and Plantronics, I believe) made for phones at a Verizon Circuit City store yesterday and neither worked in the MP3 and movie players.

The odd thing is that these phones seemed to work with system/UI sounds. But when I entered the media players, the only sound was through the external speakers, even with the buds plugged into the device.

I also tried to close the unit while in the players, and they continued to play through only the external speakers.

Carrying this thing in your pocket?

Another user at a different forum complains that the 9800 is just to big to be carried in a pocket or on a belt clip...but the same user posted pictures of it next to an 8100 and it looked not much thicker than the 8100....
...so for those who have it, how is it carrying in your pocket?

Wireless Sync SUCKS for this phone

😕 I just got my 9800. Wireless SYNC checks for new email ONCE an hour at the very least. You can set it to check for longer intervals. For instance, once/12 hours or once/24 hours.

Most people in business can not afford to check email only once and hour. This does not work. It was apparently designed for more the social user and a younger demographic.
