The Original iPhone Is Still Best

In my opinion, no smartphone created in the past eleven years surpasses the original iPhone in terms of overall design. Its size, physical button configuration, and interface far exceed today’s oversized, clunky brickbats.

I personally have no desire to “upgrade” to the X or any other next-generation phone. I’ll stick with the SE line until it’s discontinued.

I agree

I agree that the Pixel 2XL does the best overall between these three, with the S9+ coming in a close 2nd. If you have access to a S8/S8+ it would also be interested to see how that compares to the Pixel 2XL and S9+. I've heard the S8 (even in low light) is almost the same as the S9.

This can not stand....

Apple delivered something 'new'(Only to Apple) and expected $1000 for it... This is unacceptable. They are attempting to set a precedent that we will never come back from.

iPhone X takes us to the next level of smartphone, while Eric is stuck in the android trap!

The iPhone X has drawn more excitement than every other new phone released this year! It's a stunning example of what Apple technology can produce both hardware and software. As other reviews such as The Wall Street Journals review proclaims, its the "Best smartphone that has ever been made". But I only hear subtle compliments from this review and loads of insults.

I am a professional photographer and Eric pointed out some of how terrific the camera of the Apple iPhone X is! But in nearly "every" catagory there was mocking and complaints with few compliments for a job well done.

The iPhone X is the fastest, best looking, best built smartphone ever created and I heard none of that here. The final scores were damn good but ran in confli...

Nice, Pro Android, review...

So you want the IPhone X to be more along the lines of Android? Then review an Android phone. I can buy a Samsung phone for $950.00, but $1000.00? That’s way too much. Seriously? Complaints over a $50.00 difference?

Let’s look at it this way. Android phones (many models available) very nice phones. But the same OS is used on different manufacturers devices. iOS is on Apple, period. That lends itself to better hardware to software interplay. Perfect? No. Nor are the competitors.
But I find it tiring when slamming a platform is considered a review. For example, “The Notch”. Who cares? It’s not really that huge an issue, functionally does nothing to the iPhone, and (for me), it gives me an idea where the speaker and front camera are.

G6 is a strange choice

I'm surprised the V30 is the honorable mention vs. the G6. All anyone could manage to say about the G6 when it was released was "Oh, how could they release a flagship with last year's processor" or how it's LCD display is inferior to competing OLED displays"? Despite the fact that LG actually beat Samsung to the punch by bringing to market a phone with the newer aspect ratio by a month or two and the fact that Samsung had a limited time exclusivity agreement to have first dibs on the SD 835 making that processor unavailable to LG for months. Yet the V30 is the honorable mention despite having features and stats actually on par with current flagship devices?

The Moto z2 Force should be on this list.

Only reason the z2 didn't make the list is its less popular.

Beware the glass back

Reports have come in that dropping an iPhone X from as small as one foot off the ground can cause the glass back to shatter. This would be a design flaw

Oh, that notch

I read and hear a lot of commentary about, "The Notch" on the new iPhone X and both sides have their opinions if they like it or not.

The main reason Apple made that notch is for branding identity. It makes a statement even from across the room. There's no mistaking if somebody is using Apple's latest flagship phone in a sea of phones because that notch is unmistakable. Simple as that.

It's a rather brilliant bit of marketing and I expect many copy cats from the competition next year (save for Essential of course).

Not True

How are Powermat chargers upgradable by software? There's no connection to Starbucks wifi or Ethernet to them. In fact they're barely working half the time anyway. They got rid of all the power rings cause no one ever returned them. I fail to see how they're going to upgrade these via software on a whim. They're gonna have to just replace them. PMA was always a crap idea against Qi anyway.

Face ID

I like the bump in base model memory. But Face ID? I know it's about security. And that you're not suppose to use your phone while driving. It is however very convenient to unlock your phone without having to look at it in driving situations. And unlock it by just placing a thumb on it. And just glance at it for the information you're needing at the time. I suspect Face ID will require bringing the phone into your FOV. (Field of Vision).

No band 71.
Looks like the V30 holds the accolade for that now.
