Re: The *2G* Network Extender
by CellStudent    Aug 10, 2011, 12:00 AM
in the Verizon forum

Of all the people who have responded here, many of them should know better. I'm shocked no one has brought this up yet: If he just wants it for improved voice reception, these things go for about $100 on eBay. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R40&_tr ksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=verizon+network+extender&_sac at=See-All-Categories These are the 2G network Extenders (most of them, model SCS-26UC4 == 2G). If he's got a BB Bold, he can use the Wi-Fi for his data anyway. Only reason to get one of the 3G Verizon setups is if you have dumbphones that need 3G! That's a small crowd... NOTE: Verizon 3G is a DATA ONLY service (AT&T 3G is used for their voice services as well so having 3G matters on AT&T extenders, but not on Verizon extenders). On Verizon voice reception improvement will be identical on the 2G Network Extender and the 3G Network Extender. No difference at all. No voice coverage improvements were made in the 3G version. NONE! Save yourself $200. Tell your boss it cost you $300 and pocket the difference. :)

Re: processors

Some are simply newer / better and more powerful. There are myriad different things that go into it. (Things like more pipelines, more cache, better branch prediction, different instruction sets, tighter graphics integration, and dozens of other things that only electrical engineers understand.) The best way to tell which processors are faster is to check out benchmarks of actual devices. Note that some phones have better implementations (supporting chips and circuitry, etc.) of specific chips than others, so even if two phones have the same processor, one make be faster. So phone benchmarks are often more important than knowing the processor type.
