You were in the right, 4tail. The replies you have received here have been pretty rude and misguided, unfortunately. Three points your readers might consider: 1. AT&T and other carriers intentionally make it easy to accidentally initiate data transfers, with their locked-down phone menus, prominent "connect" buttons, or etc. They do this to encourage the use of their data services in order to generate revenue. It's not in their interest to allow you full control over your phone. So 4tail's accidental connections and accompanying frustration are really quite understandable. 2. When I got my Nokia 6682, I specifically requested that the data "features" of the account be disabled, because the accidental connections constantly frustrated me with the previous phone we'd tested (a Samsung, I believe). That phone had a prominent "connect" button with the Cingular logo that we kept bumping, and we'd be getting charged for its *attempt* to connect, an attempt we didn't want to make. Searching around in that phone's menus sometimes resulted in connection attempts, too, as we were getting to know the phone. It offered no confirmation check before attempting to connect, and no option to enable one or simply to disable data transfer: nothing user-friendly like that. 3. AT&T settled a class action suit recently over a similar issue. I have the notice here; it is titled "Attention Customers: You may be eligible to receive a credit or refund for unauthorized mobile content charges." AT&T's realization that they will be punished for customer-hostile (dare I say "unethical" or "dishonorable?") business practices may be one of the reasons why they removed your unauthorized charges from your bill, 4tail. It seems to me that the attacks on 4tail ignore many important context factors. People would rather deride than think, apparently. (Note: I got the Nokia 6682, a smartphone, because I thought it was the best Nokia available from AT&T (Cingular) at the time. I wanted it primarily as a phone and to use some Symbian apps, not because I wanted internet access. To attack you for your choice of phone, 4tail, is silly.) Apologies in arrears for the length and poor editing; it's late & way past bedtime. :-) m-

Call AT&T from your cell at 611, when prompter begins talking press 1 wait and the hit zero three times. When agent comes on the line, verify information, and promptly inform that you are wishing to cancel and want to speak with the SAVE department, and no you don't want want to talk to that agent about it. When SAVE comes on the line, tell them that you are going to cancel because your phone isn't working right, they will upgrade you to a new one and ship it to you with no fees and no mail in rebates, note that they can't sell the iphone, so you have to buy a different phone, i recommend the Samsung Jack with is $84 with tax. Phone will arrive in 3-4 business days, DO NOT ACTIVATE, take recept and phone to corporate store and exchange for iphone at new 2yr price. Yes it might be a little hassel and take a week to complete, but it's a fair way to do it and it doesn't cost you anything extra. In case you didn't know the $86 you pay for the Samsung on the phone comes off of the iPhone price in the store. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm a Business Rep for AT&T

I dont get it.... hos pi tal ize —šÃ¢â‚¬”š/ˈh ‰’spɪtlËŒaɪz/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [hos-pi-tl-ahyz] Show IPA Use hospitalize in a Sentence –verb (used with object), -ized, -iz ing. to place in a hospital for medical care or observation: The doctor hospitalized grandfather as soon as she checked his heart. Also, especially British, hos pi tal ise. I looked it up... Its a word. Now what? PEOPLE create words they are not created on their own. Words are created using other known words in the "Spoken" language. "WORD" Use word in a Sentence –noun 1. a unit of language, consisting of one or more spoken sounds or their written representation, that functions as a principal carrier of meaning. Words are composed of one or more morphemes and are either the smallest units susceptible of independent use or consist of two or three such units combined under certain linking conditions, as with the loss of primary accent that distinguishes blackʹbirdʹ from blackʹ birdʹ. Words are usually separated by spaces in writing, and are distinguished phonologically, as by accent, in many languages. 2. words, a. speech or talk: to express one's emotion in words; Words mean little when action is called for. b. the text or lyrics of a song as distinguished from the music. c. contentious or angry speech; a quarrel: We had words and she walked out on me. 3. a short talk or conversation: Marston, I'd like a word with you. 4. an expression or utterance: a word of warning. 5. warrant, assurance, or promise: I give you my word I'll be there. 6. news; tidings; information: We received word of his death. 7. a verbal signal, as a password, watchword, or countersign. 8. an authoritative utterance, or command: His word was law. 9. Also called machine word. Computers. a string of bits, characters, or bytes treated as a single entity by a computer, particularly for numeric purposes. 10. (initial capital letter) Also called the Word, the Word of God. a. the Scriptures; the Bible. b. the Logos. c. the message of the gospel of Christ. 11. a proverb or motto. –verb (used with object) 12. to express in words; select words to express; phrase: to word a contract with great care. —Idioms13. at a word, in immediate response to an order or request; in an instant: At a word they came to take the situation in hand. 14. be as good as one's word, to hold to one's promises. 15. eat one's words, to retract one's statement, esp. with humility: They predicted his failure, but he made them eat their words. 16. have a word, to talk briefly: Tell your aunt that I would like to have a word with her. 17. have no words for, to be unable to describe: She had no words for the sights she had witnessed. 18. in a word, in summary; in short: In a word, there was no comparison. Also, in one word. 19. in so many words, in unequivocal terms; explicitly: She told them in so many words to get out. 20. keep one's word, to fulfill one's promise: I said I'd meet the deadline, and I kept my word. 21. man of his word or woman of her word, a person who can be trusted to keep a promise; a reliable person. 22. my word! or upon my word! (used as an exclamation of surprise or astonishment.) 23. of few words, laconic; taciturn: a woman of few words but of profound thoughts. 24. of many words, talkative; loquacious; wordy: a person of many words but of little wit. 25. put in a good word for, to speak favorably of; commend: He put in a good word for her with the boss. Also, put in a word for. 26. take one at one's word, to take a statement to be literal and true. 27. take the words out of one's mouth, to say exactly what another person was about to say. 28. weigh one's words, to choose one's words carefully in speaking or writing: It was an important message, and he was weighing his words. So...according to all of this...A word is created based on the way we speak. Sense we now use the word "Texting" in our spoken language commonly, it would make sense it would become a actual word. Prime example.. AINT. Even though it may be Nonstandard it is recognized as a word. ain't —šÃ¢â‚¬”š/e ɪnt/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [eynt] Show IPA Use aint in a Sentence 1. Nonstandard except in some dialects. am not; are not; is not. 2. Nonstandard. have not; has not; do not; does not; did not. -------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Origin: 1770–80; var. of amn't (contr. of am not) by loss of m and raising with compensatory lengthening of a; cf. aren't Usage note: As a substitute for am not, is not, and are not in declarative sentences, ain't is more common in uneducated speech than in educated, but it occurs with some frequency in the informal speech of the educated, especially in the southern and south-central states. This is especially true of the interrogative use of ain't I? as a substitute for the formal and—to some—stilted am I not? or for aren't I?, considered by some to be ungrammatical, or for the awkward—and rare in American speech—amn't I? Some speakers avoid any of the preceding forms by substituting Isn't that so (true, the case)? Ain't occurs in humorous or set phrases: Ain't it the truth! She ain't what she used to be. It ain't funny. The word is also used for emphasis: That just ain't so! It does not appear in formal writing except for deliberate effect in such phrases or to represent speech. As a substitute for have not or has not and—occasionally in Southern speech—do not, does not, and did not, it is nonstandard except in similar humorous uses: You ain't heard nothin' yet! See also aren't. Sorry, didnt mean to jump in but it seemed liked a fun debate and I had the time to kill.
