I lived in Utah for several years. I think I even know which trails he was on, up around Canyon Road. A friend of mine lived in an apartment complex up in the canyon. I once crashed on his couch for a week, I was up in O-Town for a work conference. We spent a lot of time hiking around the area when I wasn't dealing with work.

For the record, this part of Ogden is well-populated and well covered by both AT&T and Verizon. He needs to really get out into the mountains, not just in and around the foothills. East Ogden isn't really "in the mountains," sorry to say.

Also, this guy uses a Verizon Mifi to get online with his iPod Touch.

Huh? So because a state has SOME desert areas you hate it?

And epik is right, he was in the foothills, not the mountains.

I live in Raleigh as well. I left Verizon for the iPhone about 1.5 weeks ago. I got great AT&T coverage where I was at but the call quality is simply horrendous with AT&T. Coverage /= quality.

In addition whenever you walk into a large building coverage drops off completely w/ AT&T.

I am back to Verizon now with my old Motorola L7c and my wife's old Samsung flipper. I'll wait for the Pre w/ Verizon.

The iPhone was a cool device but AT&T just sucks as far as a cell phone company goes.

I'm not drunk on Kool-Aid, but I did notice that he stated, "...I try not to depend on it keeping a phone call active for that long if I'm moving around much."

Seems to be the usual AT&T crap service, except that he had "a noteworthy session" of continuity, meaning it normally DOES NOT have continuity.

As an ex-AT&T customer, I know how crappy their reception has been. While at dinner at a friend's house hundred feet from my home, there were SEVEN people with AT&T phones, and not one could make a call. All seven finally switched to VZW, and can now make calls wherever they go, even where AT&T failed.

Yeah well I have been with Cingular/ATT for 7.5yrs, and I live in Las Vegas, Nv, no problems with voice or data. I have my mother on my acct she lives in Connecticut, she also has no problems.

Each one will have good and bad, and no one is perfect.

Funny thing about "no problems" though. We had a friend visiting from Fort Worth, and she kind of got mad when we kept making fun of AT&T. She said she has "no problem" with her service in TX, but we could hear her telling her kid to go stand by her Mom's front door so she could hear her better!

I think anybody who is a fanboy is annoying, fanboy's are like cheerleaders, and act like they're the CEO's grandkid.

If you work for a perticular company it is just a paycheck, that's all, a means to pay bills. I work security at a Chevy dealership, but if I were to buy a car it would be a Honda or a Toyota, not a Chevy just because I work at a dealership. !! I !! am a consumer, not a fanboy/cheerleader/CEO's grandkid.

I'm not a fanboy,. . .I'm a real consumer. And I'm not blinded, because I don't collect a paycheck from a wireless carrier.

So the point here is that the iphone actually held a call, which is apparently noteworthy enough for someone to write an article about it? I honestly don't see where Verizon Kool-Aid has anything to do with it. The article doesn't mention one bad thing about Verizon, nor is there any credible information in the article that Verizon would not work just as well in this situation. Is the "Kool-Aid" reference about at&t's poor signal, and the fact that Verizon mentions it? I don't work for Verizon, nor am I biased or a fanboy. I think even the most hardcore Verizon fanboy would admit that calls can be made on at&t. The consistency of reception is lacking though. I fail to see the point.

So why do you sell cars that you would not buy? Does Chevy not have a car that competes with the Honda or Toyota line? They sure pay Howie Long enough to compare the Traverse and the Pilot.

I understand not owning a car from the place you work with all the buying options (used, bought before getting job, etc.) but to say flat out you would not buy a Chevy just screams of hypocrisy.

Actually I don't sell cars, I'm a bored-a$$ security guard at a Chevy dealership.

I'm just saying just because you get a paycheck from a company doesn't mean that your a chearleader for them. Or go around saying they're the best. A paycheck is a paycheck, that's all a means to pay bills. Some people are so full of being a fanboy that they lose they're sense of reality.

And again.. I don't think I've read stuff even from the most extreme of "fanboys" claiming that the iphone couldn't make calls, just that it was a bad phone for it.

The fact that this guy had to write an ARTICLE about a phone working as intended should speak for itself.

Ok Craig,

Well, I guess you just don't get the point most here are trying to make. This actually HELPS the arguments of the fanboys. When someone takes the time to write an article about a much maligned handset actually working you know the rep isn't just being perpetuated by the fanboy crowd.

Precisely! All a paycheck is a means to keep bills paid, and hopefully buy yourself a really, really cool cell phone. Just cause someone is an employee doesn't mean they have to be a cheerleader for the CEO! ! ! Any company, not just wireless companies.

Nice to know theres somebody honest on Phone Scoop!

Still not sure why you say "For those who are drunk on Verizon kool-aid".

The guy flat out admitted that he has very unreliable service with his iPhone. Are you wanting us to think their service has improved based upon this article?

Get to the point.

Thats not really that big of a deal. My employee sent me a picture message from Alasaka while she was on the middle of the mountain (she sent it with her Voyager). Be hoenst with yourself can the iphone do that. Well we all know you cant send a picture message but would it be able to E-mail someone a pic of a mountain while on the mountain?

But this:
https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php?fm=m&f ... »
Still stands.

The phone was able to make a call where it was advertised it could make a call, is this really worth writing an article about?

Obviously the phone is able to make calls, it is the quality of those calls, and the ability to maintain them that most "fanboys" bring up.

Really? Are we still talking about who has the most coverage? When it comes to VZW and AT&T in the metro areas there is almost no difference and when you get in the boonies you usually get better coverage from one or the other. Just figure out who works best where you travel the most. I have VZW and most of my friends have AT&T and I really have only been a couple of places where one of us had service and the other did not. You may see a bigger difference if yo are talking about getting DSL speeds on your data connection but as far as voice do we really need to cover this again?

A couple of things. 1st you must have never been to nevada if your calling ogden the arm pit of america. 2nd I'm glad this guy is so excited his iphone works in the city. I've ridden my quad all over that area and my vzw bb works as well. Now have him go out to little sahara sand dunes in utah and see if his iphone works. He will be asking verizon wireless users to borrow their phones. Point is we all can find a spot where one carrier works and another doesn't. Its verizonwireless customers who aren't surprised when it works where its supposed to.
