Re: SprintNextel hybrid phone poll
by jrfdsf    Dec 1, 2006, 4:52 PM
in the Motorola ic502 Buzz forum

Karmaego said: to Note... the majority of the Sprint PCS market is covered under 1900Mhz formatting... 800Mhz is typically for low market level coverage (the boonies as some might call it) and is purely Analog... to say it would give better coverage if the hybrid had 800Mhz coverage would be like saying the Razr would be better if it was bigger and bulkier... and had an antenna PCS covers very little of the United States. Most cellular companies that run CDMA operate in the 800 mhz band. One only needs to look at a coverage map on Sprint.com and compare PCS only vs. other digital roaming. There's no comparison. On top of that, analog covers even more territory than all digital roaming combined. 8oo mhz may not be as good, but it's better than "no service", wouldn't you agree? As for the RAZR comparison, actually, phones with external antennas DO have better reception than ones that don't. Any phone tech will tell you this. The reason phones like the RAZR and Pebl sell so much is because people are willing to trade in a little performance for a decrease in size. If you doubt whether an external antenna helps reception, try hooking your personal cell phone to a car cellular antenna and then compare your signal strength while in a fringe coverage area.
