CDMA or GSM, HELP!

Hi All!
I am a current Verizon user in the S.F.-Bay area, and have excellent service with them for 4 years now. But I have been intrigued for a long time with GSM service and the phones connected with it. I need peoples input and opinions here. Is GSM better than CDMA and why? I heard the voice quality is better, but is it by much? A year or two ago, I heard GSM was terrible here(as far as signal strength, dropped calls, etc)...has it improved? From what I've seen on the maps and from what co-workers and friends say, it is yes. Now if I decide to go GSM's way, I've decided to go with either AT&T or Cingular, because they have the upcoming 850 frequency besides the already existing 1900. T-Mobile only has 1900 from what I've seen.
So betwe...

Renewed contract without consent... what should i do?

I found out in July ATTWS renewed my contract w/o consent. What can i do? I called and spoke to them and they said in the customer service records they read aloud something and i agreed to it which is a lie. I know the law and know the burden of proof is on them. With no signature and no recorded confirmation what grounds to they have to charge me to "break" this fictitious contract. This is not the first time to have been duped my ATTWS cust service... which is why i am switching to a new carrier before contract ends. I have already mailed a written letter to a coorespondence address with no reply. Help please!

What do you want?

What promotions and or features would you like to see AT&T wireless offer in the future?

Bluetooth

I'm new here....What is on the horizon for bluetooth phones????

I need one (it interacts with my car), but they all seem to fall a little short in terms of quality, size or cool-factor.

What do you guys think?

Message from the Moderator

First, let me say how happy I am to see such a thriving forum here - it's definitely one of the more active ones since the new forums launched. Awesome! 😁

However, things have been also been getting a bit ugly here from time to time. In the interest of keeping this a constructive and useful forum, I'm going to be moderating a bit more from now on.

Here is some more information about what to expect:

FREEDOM!!!!

I was on hold trying to switch from ATTWS to verizon, and apparently, after 45 minutes they decided to shut down the phone banks. Pretty much parr for the course with ATTWS.

I can only hope that their phone banks were swamped with smart customers tired of dealing with their ATT crappy service/infrastructure.

My Christmas wish for 2004.... ATTWS files for bankruptcy!!!! 😁

Gotta hand it to ATTWS...

Their ability to to present the appearance of
offering one service, but actually providing something
very different is second to none.

Very much like the mother company's oh-so-honest
ad campaigns comparing cable and satellite.

In this case..., I'm talking about their support for
GAIT phones wrt their Digital One Rate plans.

I'm one of those poor souls who has two actual
residences..., unfortunately..., one of them is not
in an AT&T service area.

I've been an AT&T customer since their take-over
of Cell-1. By and large, I've been pretty happy with
the service..., but for several reasons, the time came
to get a new plan and phone.

I needed good roaming and I needed data. So..., a
GAIT phone made sense, as did the di...

If Cingular were to merge with ATTWS or T-Mobile, how much down time if any, would require to make them work together?
And according to their coverage maps, they seem to cover the exact same areas. So it seems to me, that their coverge area really wouldn't increase at all if any. What do you think?

Need advice on what GSM phone to choose

I currently have a T68i and am VERY unhappy about it's signal strength compared to previous phones I've used. I need a tri-band GSM world phone, preferably with bluetooth, must be data capable (I connect my laptop to the internet via bluetooth all the time). Size is important to me as is syncing with Outlook (I really want to use my phone to replace my PDA). I'm thinking about a smartphone (but hate the poor battery life and they aren't bluetooth yet), the P900 (but hate the thought of SonyEricsson poor signal strength), or the new Nokia 6600 (I've had great experience with PCS Nokia phones). Any suggestions?

Hi once again. I have a question to ask you, you like I said once before r one of the four people I trust on here.
A few daya ago, our local paper, the "Gainesville Sun", here Gainesville, Fl., (32614). In their tech section where they dicuss everything from the internet to the On-Star system to cellular carriers, had this to say.
In the beginning of 2004, they said ATTWS will be available here, and they will have Gainesville numbers for those who want to sign with ATTWS.
I had heard a rumor in the past about this, and I was hoping they would be coming to my area. But it is now in writing in our local paper, my question to you is: "Have you heard or do know, when this will happen for sure?"
Please, all I ask is this, if y...

ATTWS to take over our service - what to expect?

ATTWS will be taking our service area from CellularOne (Rural Cellular Corp) in a swap deal. Based on the press releases, it will happen in "early 2004".

I can't get ATTWS or Rural Cellular to talk to me about it.

So, just curious as to what we can expect in the way ATTWS will deal with our existing plans, rates, etc. Will they offer incentives to get us to sign new contracts (we're out of contract now)? Existing service is straight TDMA at this time.

NorCal AT&T vs. T-Mobile

Currently I am a AT&T customer with an older Nokia phone (about 2years old). I live in Northern Cal (Bay Area) and have been pretty happy with AT&T except for one thing. The reception when I am home is almost nothing. I was thinking about switching to AT&T's GSM service hoping that would improve it but I was told that I should think about switching to T-Mobile. Looking at T-Mobile there look like they have decent plans and I was looking at the Motorola V300 that should be out soon or the Nokia 6610. If I go to AT&T GSM it will probably be the Nokia 6200.

Anyone have opinions on AT&T vs. T-Mobile for the Bay Area? Also, are the phones I mentioned the way to go? Thanks in advance!!

You Have To Read This!!

Okay, listen up, there two people that are normally on this forum who know what they are talking about the first person is: ATTWS_H8Tr the other person is Qagirl. This two people have their facts straight and I trust because I have "checked" them out.
That "crash dummy" better known as "Emurillojr" hasn't got a clue. "Emu" short for that Australian bird, probably goes "dumpster diving" for dinner!!

Please read.

Eventually if AT&T Wireless representatives continue slandering either their company they work for, or the company they outsource for, this entire website will be banned by AT&T Wireless from being accessed from work. I would ask anyone who has listened to their absolutely childish behaviour to ignore them, or their posts, and would request the posts that are of absolute absurdity be removed by a moderator.

I am ashamed to be even remotely related to any of them, as I do work for AT&T Wireless.

Attn: Foxfire and all ATTWS Reps.!

To tell you the truth I agree with you Foxfire. Attws has been yanking my change for a while now. To say I'm disgusted with them, is putting it "nicely".
I think Attws might might survive this battle, but they'll be in a big hurt.
What I don't understand is, where is everyone? I have been to the other forums, it seems everyone is in a coma. To bad, I miss the banter.
Check out Forbes mag. and the tech. mags. Attws at this time has the hightest defecting rate of all the carriers. I think Sprint is a close second.
Okay all you ATTWS REPS.! I know you read this stuff, but for some reason you prefer to not jump in. I guess you ATTWS REPS, believe in that line, "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen'...

Any good CSR stories?

Just wondering if anyone has any good experiences to share when calling Customer Care. Like "This rep went past what I would have expected" kinda stuff. Or of course the bad ones would be good too. But nothing we've seen before please. How about new stuff. Like "They ordered a phone without my permission and i didnt return it for 5 months and they want me to pay!!!!" Thanks all.
