Droid BOGO

Today, Droids went on BOGA in the western US. Buy one, get anything of equal or lesser value free after rebate. This means I could get two Moto Droids for $200, where yesterday I could get two for $400. It also means I could get an Eris, a netbook, a Rogue, or just about any Simple Feature Phone my heart desires.

It also means...

Contract up soon

My contract is up in 2 months, I was wondering if there are any other Android phones coming soon or should I just go ahead and get the Droid?

Any help or rumors would be much appreciated.

VZAccessManager for Windows 7

So when is VerizonWireless going to offer VZAccessManager for Windows 7 for all the other smart phones? So far, only Blackberrys are supported. Seems like Windows 7 was released last October.

Vzn ad says Pre is for women and Droid is for men

All I have to say is that is isn't Vzn's place to say who will like what.It is the consumer place to say who will like what, and the market. I'm sure there are plenty of females out there with the Pre.

Windows Mobile Series 7

Microsoft is starting from scratch with this one.

While I left Windows for Blackberry (and subsequently, Android) some time ago, it looks like Microsoft has finally learned something from Apple and Google on creating a whole new operating system. Sometimes, the billionth version of the same old thing is still just the same old thing.

There could be some promise here. Or there could be a dead flop on it's way, too.

Verizon is really starting to SUCK

350 ETF for buying a BB 8530, that is ridiculous! I'm not going to re-sign with verizon with that kind of ETF.

And they wanted to force ten bucks of data on me for an enV3! and only 25 mb! What? Get out of here.

Data on Family Plans

Just throwing this out here for thoughts... Do we see in the future having one price for unlimited data for family plans instead of 30 dollars a line? I know on the old plan could add it for 10 dollars a month per line and I wish they still had that because I have 4 lines and cant afford 30.00 a line for data. I only ask because I see AT@T has this on their family plans.

Bought an old lg8300 off craigslist, it requires a 10 data plan lol what a joke verizon is.

This phone is 3 years old at least. I got it off craigslist for 35 dollars. The verizons person told me it falls under their smartphone plan, and requires a 10 data plan. If I blocked it I could still text but not get picture or video texts. So I blocked it. I could see the charge if I got a BB of some other type of phone like a BB. This leads me to believe that 99.9 percent of the verizon phones will require this 10 charge just to get it out of the consumer. Don't think it is right and should be stopped. I sure miss Alltel and Chad....Contract with Alltel is up in 4 months will be going some where else after that. I remember now why I left verizon 4 years ago....

MIMO: The problem no one is talking about

So, as a student of Electrical Engineering, I have to think about things like this occasionally and was wondering if anyone else had any ideas along these lines.

Way back in the 70's and 80's when the FCC started setting aside spectrum for cellular use, all the wireless bands were split in half and 50% of your spectrum was rated for "download" and 50% of the spectrum was rated for "upload." On top of that, the upload and download blocks that were "paired" together for cellular use are not even immediately adjacent to each other on the spectrum chart in most cases.

That makes sense in a voice-only environment where people doe almost as much talking as they do listening, but in a high data environment, download bandwidth need outstrips ...

BB Tour Questions?

My NE2 is up and I was planning on getting the Tour until I read on Phonescoop that the Tour2 is coming out. So my question is whether the the new Tour2 will be worth the wait? It looks as if the only significant changes are trackpad and new OS. Any other improvements? Is the trackpad an improvement over the trackball? Thanks!

Why couldn't the ETF be...?

Maybe this has been mentioned before, but why can't the ETF for Verizon (really all carriers) be:

- Retail cost minus subsidized cost you paid when signing the contract.

- ETF would decrease every month by a set percentage (not by a set amount). Let's say it decreased by roughly 8.3% every month on a 1 yr contract, and 4.16% on 2 yr contract. (This is about 1/12 and 1/24 respectively).

By the way, the retail cost and ETF proration rate should be clear and big enough on the contracts the customer signs, as well as viewable on MyAccount online.

To me, this would seem fair to the customer, and smart to the company as well. It would also create some leadway for store managers to discount phones for customers in special situations,...
