Former AT&T Customer bu recently ported to Sprint at the end of March '10

So as the title reads, I was a former AT&T Customer who recently ported their service to Sprint and I must say in comparison to how unpleasant I recall the service being around the 2001-02 time period, it's quite a different experience now in comparison. I got the HTC Hero for both lines (mines as well as my wife's) and we both like it so far. For one thing, the call clarity and quality BOTH are clearer than what I had in these past 17 months w/. AT&T. Yes, I paid the ETF of $95/line. (After a certain point, AT&T starts reducing their ETFs on each line by $5 depending on how long of a tensure you've had and how much remains. And no, I was not an iPhone Customer.) However, I received $50 Service Credit per line for being a new Customer o...

My predictions for Sprint

1. They will offer WIMAX on future Nextel devices. 2. They will lose 3G roaming in previous Alltel roaming areas, but will gain & surpass all other wireless companies in terms of voice coverage (with roaming). 3. They will buy out SouthernLinc in the next two years rather than dumping iDEN. 4. They will remain in 3rd place, but will gain many new customers. Feel free to add. 🙂

Will Bad Business Decisions Spell Sprint's Downfall?

Sprints desire to be first at something led them to pick out WiMax as their 4G standard. WiMax was going to be the first standard of it's kind to hit the market.

Sprints decision at the time probably made sense, the company has been losing billions of dollars over the past years, and has the highest churn rate (customer loss) of all U.S. carriers. I'm sure it seemed to the sprint execs that customers needed SOME reason to pick sprint, when it couldn't compete with larger carriers in terms of network, devices, and services and couldn't compete with prepaid services and smaller carriers in terms of price. At the time the biggest players in the U.S wireless industry weren't going to be rolling out their 4G networks for 2 or 3 years after ...

Questions about WiMAX

Initially, will WiMAX just be for data only? No voice?

Will you be able to carry a conversation over 1x and still use WiMAX to browse the web or will it be the same as it is now? Either voice or data, not both.

Is WiMAX 2.5GHz only? If it is, will you be able to buy lets say, an unlocked WiMAX phone and use it? Or does Sprint only let you activate ESN's that are in their database only? In other words, only phones with a Sprint branding on them.

Will WiMAX use sim cards?

Check out the Verizon forum

Basically, they're trying to convince everyone to pay the forced data charges--and like it! 🤣 What a bunch of Kool-aid drinkers. I had no idea it was this bad.

The fine print on "any mobile"

just a general advisory here.

if you read the fine print on the any mobile plans, any mobile only is truly any mobile when you're on sprints network. if you are roaming (non-sprint tower) it counts against your minutes.

so the "landline minutes" could potentially include any call if you're not on sprints network.

just a word of caution to those who are thinking of selecting the smallest any mobile plan.

WIMAX & data roaming

Even if 4G only works while on Sprint, it won't matter to me in the least. As long as I have CDMA voice and data roaming, I'll be happy. Roaming on LTE isn't worth the extra $$$ the other guys will surely charge you.

The new Sprint will still screw up your bill, but...

...Now, they bend over backwards to correct it! 🙂 Thanks Sprint for going above and beyond for my particular problem.

Headed To Sprint On 4-22 - Phone Question

Looking over Sprints phones nothing really captures my attention. So at this point I am between the Blackberry 8530 or the Palm Pre.

I know these are quite different devices but on my former carrier T-Mo I used the Bold 9700 and the MyTouch 3G.

Sprints Android phones seem a bit dated and the Blackberry 9630 is reaching end of life mostly sue to the trackball. Plus the Tour has a older OS than the less expensive 8530.

So my question is how do you all match up the 8530 to the Pre? Also, anybody aware of the 9700 headed to Sprint?
