Throttling vs. Net Neutrality
I can't believe this troubles Wheeler, but he's fine with 'net neutrality'. As much as cable companies say neutrality would only add a faster access point for those who pay for it (netflix), in reality, it would throttle those services who refuse to pay for access.
You can tell Wheeler came from the cable companies (he was a Comcast lobbyist), not the wireless industry.

I didn't really have any issues with ICS on this phone (not after the 1st update AT&T pushed back in June '12), as arox stated, but I've been kind of bummed lately that every other variant of this phone, everywhere in the world, has been running Jelly Bean EXCEPT AT&T's version.
I half expected them to never release 4.1 to the one x, just to create greater differentiation between it and the one x+.
So, while it's nice to see this ...
Educated guess: 2 more LTE phone
Considering that about one-third of those 14 LTE devices are actually handsets (Thunderbolt, Charge, Revolution, Breakout, and the Bionic) ... it's probably safe to say that one-third of those new devices will actually be phones. Most of those devices will probably be tablets, maybe a netbook.
Known LTE handsets that will be ready for launch this year: Samsung Nexus Prime and Samsung Statoshpere. That is all :(

What kind of world are we living in? Oh yes, the USA :o ... where we "rethink possible".
So will Sprint customers be able to just pop in an active AT&T SIM card and use the GSM network whenever they want?

Technically, Nokia didn't drop Meego, but they relegated it to an "experimental platform" and they admitted that they won't produce too many Meego devices. That kind of product/platform positioning means it will never be more than a niche market.

Dead In The Water
Knowing that Meego and Symbian are going to be dropped, Nokia will have a hard time attracting consumers or developers to either of these platforms.
Don't get me wrong, I kind of like what I see here (except those sharp corners). I just can't see developers writing cool applications, so I'd be relying on Nokia alone for developer support.
Nokia chose not to jump into Meego, instead choosing WP7. This phone is obsolete before it's ever released :cry:.

It wouldn't be very uniform since Sprint uses different spectrum for their Wimax than Verizon and AT&T use for LTE.
I think they should have jumped on LTE much sooner. Now, they'll have to transition current 4G customers over to a new standard, which means new hardware.
I hope they have enough spectrum to operate both a WiMax network and a LTE network concurrently during a transitional period. That may sound costly, but it would be the smoothest way ...

I'll admit that microsoft is playing catch-up here. However, I think WP7 is much more intuitive than android. If you're already married to android, then you probably aren't interested in wp7 yet. On the other hand, I'm coming from a iOS device and think I like wp7 for its ease of use and pre-installed apps.
I think the IE9 demo bodes well for the future of mobile browsing, and having that pre-installed will be a nice plus.

The last CDMA SE phone was in 2003 and it was for sprint. Very surprising, indeed.
It's a cool idea, but definitely a niche market. I don't see many professionals wanting this phone, mainly teens who don't pay their own cell phone bills.

Ohhhh, you really threw me off by calling the PlayBook (RIM BlackBerry tablet) the Tab (the name of the Samsung Galaxy tablet).
From the looks of it, you can use the BB PlayBook to send/receive emails and SMS on your BB, browse your BB's calendar/contacts, browse/play media from a BB (?), probably tethering too.
I suppose it's too early to tell exactly what the PlayBook can do in conjunction with a BB, but it seems like that's how the playbook is ...

ChaCha charges no hidden monthly fee, and no per-message fee either. As I stated, they make their money off advertisements sent with the answers to your queries.
Tmobile banks off people using this service only because of billable messages sent/received. This is money-grab on their part, plain and simple.

SMS does not bombard networks at all. In fact, when a network is too congested to place a voice call (like NYC numbers experienced during 9-11-01), SMS will go through fine. Tmo needs no extra capacity to keep up with this demand, thus they have no reason to charge consumers extra.
Make no mistake, Tmo will charge you for these messages even if they charge ChaCha to send them electronically. I can't think of another situation where ...
Last One In The Pool = Sink Or Swim
LG has always been good with mid range phones, (just look at the Shine), but they were the last ones to jump into the smartphone market. That said, it's not even fair to compare them to HTC since HTC has its roots in WinMo smartphones (in fact, they used to call them PDA's).
Once LG finally decided to produce smartphones, they had nothing to differentiate themselves from the competition, and their products still looked cheap compared to HTC and ...

I agree with trojandrew, but would also add a third scenario: VzW are resting on their laurels with Android (as successful as it's "Droid" branding is) instead of offering a WP7 competitor.
I doubt exclusivity deals are an issue since there are so many different manufacturers scheduled to produce launch phones for the OS. Moreover, there's not enough wiggle room for any manufacturer to have a device unique enough to warrant an exclusivity deal with anyone. ...

I am also intrigued by this phone. Not because I want to buy it, but for what it represents in the low-end mainstream handset market. Sleek design with WiFi n in a low-end handset. I really like the keypad/touchscreen combo idea - at least how it looks, since I haven't played with it.

Symbian needs to get their act together.
Ever since the 5800 (Tube), reviewers and consumers have been critical of S60 5th Ed. I believe that many of these criticisms could have been addressed in minor updates, yet the Symbian Foundation has failed to do so - instead they rest on their laurels as the market-share leader. Even Symbian fans' websites are being abandoned because of the stagnant state of the OS. These are sad days for Symbian, and I can't believe they don't ...

So far, the Samsung GalaxyS and the HTC EVO have both been branded "with Google" on the back cover, yet neither of them seem to be running stock android. Am I mistaken, has Google changed this policy, or is this just a prototype snafu?

a year-old phone at $200, who does AT$T think they're fooling? I promise you this phone will be half price in 3-6 months.

Gesture Area = Waste of Space
I understand that this is supposed to be a low-end smartphone, but that screen could be much bigger if they did away with the gesture area.
I would've liked WiFi, but again ... value phone.
They have no excuse for not having a microSD slot. Wouldn't that have been cheaper than the cost of 8 gigs of memory? I know SD cards are way more convenient for me.
Maybe I'm just sore AT&T isn't getting this :(

I believe BB's route webpages through a proxy server, taking some of the strain off of the back-end of the network.
Here in the Chicagoland area, I have definitely noticed an improvement in coverage and consistency in ATT's 3G network over the past year. I know they have both 1900MHz and 850MHz spectrum here, but I don't know if they're switching to 850 or just lighting up more 3G cell sites (probably a bit of both).

I get the feeling that this isn't over, and we'll see more than 3 frequency bands for LTE by the time it's rolled out.
Think about it: GSM is on 4 bands already, UMTS/HSPA is on 5 bands (850/900/1700/1900/2100).
So to have a truly global phone you would want quadband GSM, 5-band 3G, and at least tri band 4G. That's a lot of radios, not even including BT, WiFi, or GPS.
