on sprint, upgrade eligibility is based on esn, unless the esn is changed by lockline - at least that has been my experience as a sprint customer the last five times i've been involved in it (whether for myself or any of my friends) over the past few years

switching phones: how easy is it to do?
Dec 3, 2007, 3:31 PM
in the Article: What "Any App, Any Device" Really Means forum

quick question... actually, let me ramble for a bit of explanation first... (scroll down for the actual question) i have been with many different wireless carriers in the past (t-mobile, cingular, sprint, verizon, and cricket, to name a few) and from my experience, it is a lot easier to switch handsets if you're on a gsm carrier than it is if you're on a cdma carrier. what i am familiar with is being able to take the sim card out of my old ...

please allow me to try to answer this question for you... as far as i know, gsm networks have always had open handset policies because of the way the phones are built. further, cdma networks have always been locked for the same reason. let me elaborate. gsm phones and networks are built such that anytime a device tries to access the network, the information on the S-ubscriber I-dentification M-odule (or SIM card) is verified, and the handset (or device) compatability with the network ...

cant be done with this phone ps - im curious as to whether you can list any model cell phone that can do that...as far as im aware, every single cell phone ever made is/was/will always be, designed to make a sound as its turning off or turning on...part of the basic conceptual makeup of a cell phone

-while we're on the subject, is it possible to use files on the memory card as ring tones or alarm ringers, and if so, how? You can't. You have to upload them through the web and download them to your phone. I think you might be able to with the sync. so, wait, did you say that i could load my music files to the internet and then download them to the phone to use them as ringtones or alarms? how ...

i have a friend who has a samsung sync and she just bought my 1g microsd after i bought a 2g microsd from radio shack for about 30 bucks (it was on sale) anyway, she asked me to help her use it, i told her she would first need a usb adapter, but then i realized that there was something about her phone (as well as my m510, for that matter) that i didn't know: -what folder do music files ...

i think the best name anyone's come up with so far for this phone in this thread in onyx...i just wanted to comment that i think it would be simply poetic for samsung to release a phone identical to this one (e.g., with at least all the features this phone has) except in a slider form factor, and have everyone start calling it the cocoa, as if samsung released to directly compete with lg's chocolate, as sanyo did when ...

yeah...i agree if verizon ever merged with sprextel than that would almost be a monopoly (don't bash, i did say almost)... but if verizon ever did merge with someone, i would like to see them merge with t-mobile...that would bring rise to a world of wireless providers similar to the world of auto carmakers... i.e. *the big three* u.s. companies would be combatting everyone else from europe...but of course t-mobile is already huge in europe

so what do i do? will i ever be able to chirp with her from my sprint phone? last year i heard somewhere that sometime this year sprint is supposed to be introducing some new phones that will use cdma (on the sprint network) for voice and data (evdo) and iden/tdma (on the nextel network) for ptt. this will make these phones an industry first - single handsets that operate on two networks simultaneously. anyway, do i have to wait, and ...

yeah, i guess i agree with you, only b/c sprint's ptt works over their data network...i was about to post "WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?" b/c i was thinking that ptt, voice, and bt all work with distinct chipsets, but then my sanyo reminded me by disabling RL when i jumped online...
