and now engadget seems to have noticed this as well [in their review]
Re: Hmm..
when the ticket is on, the bottom portion of the display is just turning on. remember, amoled means that when displaying black, the display isn't active.
the "strip" is covered with black paint with pop outs for the buttons, but those buttons have pixels below them, and there is a screen below there.
not two displays
I was at the event and it's pretty clear this is one large 4.0" display. if you look closely, the "capacitive buttons" are made up of pixels from the AMOLED.
Re: windows mobile and resistive screens
could also use a stylus with a small charge to react with the capacitive display
How about full-disclosure?
Your first review of this device wasn't much more than a complete trainwreck.
You complained about how terrible the touch display was, yet none of you were ever willing to admit that you were in fact using a pre-production device and never calibrated the display? As such, your findings were laughable at best, delusional at worst. There was zero reasoning given why your findings were completely disjoint from virtually ALL OTHER reviews at the time.
And here we are, almost ...
"Mini" was internal name
This is NOT the Instinct II, this is more or less a subtle refresh with no functionality added to cater to entry level buyers wanting a touch screen until the true Instinct II (codenamed Samsung DASH) pops up at the end of summer.
Interesting they just released a press statement
I have been receiving "Sprint Premier" literature for a few months now. They sent me a very intricate and expensive looking pamphlet about three months ago explaining the benefits. It also had coupons for big discounts on accessories.
I've been a Sprint customer since 1999.
Never went to school?
Do you even know what you're talking about? Besides the shamefull act of calling for thousands of employees to loose their jobs, you're now trying to say that becuase of 8000 job trimmings, the company is folding?
Yeah, you already spread your "brilliance" in the your posting regarding circuit city, but this takes it to another level. laugahble.
Re: The American way - I want it for nothing, damn the consequences
Excuse me? You wrote that long and hard to justify why saving a marginal amount at a corporation like Walmart is good thing? Here's something for you to bite on - maybe if Walmart wasn't out there neglecting their workers, giving them substandard benefits, shutting down stores where workers tried to organize, sending the trade deficit off a cliff, and changing consumerer perceptions for a generation, then MAYBE you'd realize that all I was trying to get accross is ...
The American way - I want it for nothing, damn the consequences
It's like some of you have no clue what a trade balance is. Did you ever get your GED? I mean my god  Americans are willing to screw the nation over by saving a few cents at a terrible store like walmart, one which is a leach on the back of the American economy.
All of the cheerleaders whining about their god forsaken keyboards not being ready..."I didn't save $5!!", Get a clue - less competition means ...
Re: No Samsung i627 (Blackjack Slider) photos?
one other *site has a sight of it
No Samsung i627 (Blackjack Slider) photos?
It won a ces innovation award, one other sight has a photo of it?
Re: 1 bar on the desk = 0 bars in hand
verizon kick's att's sorry rear. Bluecoyote come to California where sprint/vz are the best.
VU = catastrophe
It's a little piece of garbage, sorry. Terrible interface, horrendous touch display (which you can't even drag menus with), obscene toy-like hollow build quality, and a disasterous web browser. This doesn't even take into accoun the poor speaker, poor voice quality and terrible reception.
All in all, Samsung doesn't have to try very hard to eclipse this misery of a phone...
Re: Samsung Instinct (Sprint)
Well the Behold is based on the Tocco but the Behold is not. You are right about the Instinct and f490.
t919 and a867 have different dimensions, different speaker placements, different button layouts, and different internal designs. The Behold is physically smaller, has a smaller screen compared to the Eternity. Also, the t919 has no 3.5mm headset jack like the a867 (and m800).
The Instinct is the only phone to have a 240 x 432 display...The other two are just ...
Not exactly
As previously said, Samsung phones are not crap. This is the same mentality that Motorola fanatics used all throughout 200 and into 2007 about Samsung phones. They'd call them "Samsuck", garbage...This was around the time when Motorola was gaining US market share, Samsung was loosing it. I said then the tables would change, if for any other reason than that Samsung had a wide portfolio of different handsets for each four wireless provider. Motorola was relying on the RAZR ...
They don't children
You're living in a pipe dream if you think Vodaphone owns 45% of Verizon communications. The wirless arm is not the entire company. Get the facts strait first.
This methodology for measuring signal strength is flawed
You've done it in one of your other reviews and it's a step down a slippery slope. You can't measure signal perforformance based off of signal bars shown on the handset, especially between different BRANDS and TECHNOLOGIES of handsets. Even if you are comparing the "bars" to other phones on the same carrier, manufactures don't use the same measures for displaying the true db (signal) counts. Just becuase a Sanyo shows 2-3 bars and a LG shows 1-2 does ...
tylerrocks09 : What is the Samsung Renown?
Very curious, I haven't heard of this one before.
Re: Bad Information
I think the review was talking about using your own headphones, in which case you need to use an adapter.
What's with the focus on signal bars? I thought everyone knew that is not how you test signal strength. Look at the DBs in the debug mode or actually make calls and see how long it will hold the call. The "bank vault" test was a good application for this. Looking at bars is not even close to truely ...
Re: I'm sick of hearing this crap about the Instinct
Oh my god you sound like a teenage girl. Thanks for nothimg, you moron.
Re: I'm sick of hearing this crap about the Instinct
The screen calibration issue was a problem in very early hardware spec Instincts, namely those shipped in the first few weeks. It has since been corrected out of the box, but could be corrected by using the screen calibration function in the display settings and followimg three simple steps. It takes all of 10 seconds to accomplish. For Phone Scoop to continually harp on the Instincti touchscreen given that they used a preproduction unit only is ridiculous. The phone ...
PhoneScoop Team Doesn't follow through, was wrong
You don't even know what I was talking about. I was strictly talking about the touch screen and it's said responsivness, not other features of the phone and a grand comparison to the iPhone in every respect. SCREEN RESPONSIVNESS. Go back and read what I said and come back with a reply that is actually relevant to what I was talking about.
The fact is, the Instinct has a great touch screen, certainly better than the Glyde and dare. This ...
I'm sick of hearing this crap about the Instinct
After your disastrous reviews of both the Glyde and Instinct, I am a little put off that you never maned up and actually tried other units, like you said you were going to. The Instinct does not have a capacitive touchscreen, but it is not anywhere near the level that you make it out to be. I have been using the phone since the launch date and can tell you that that initial Instinct review, where you harped on ...
Re: This sucks...
Yeah...Samsungs are soooo bad. I guess that's why they are the second largest mobile phone vendor worldwide. I guess that's why they are the world's largest technology company with a market cap of $100+ Billion dollars.
Re: Save it, you don't moderate this forum
Wow, a "moderator" engaging in off topic flame-bating - Nice.
Take my advice, go back to doing whatever it is that you do over on that other adsite - or is it a forum? I can't tell
Save it, you don't moderate this forum
Please go back to Sprint Users if you wish to play the power-tripping moderator.

Korean Phones!
How about Sprint debuting the Anycall line for the US market.
hey, one can dream right. Those Korean handsets are so far ahead of anything even remotely available in the US market.
Re: Carrier
Just look at how well the first 2 and 3mp phones sold (A800/A990/U900).
While this phone looks nice, there have been 5, 6, 7, 8, 10MP phones out in other countries for some time, most notably S. Korea. Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nokia all have phones that can currently compete with this.
Let's compare your review to others
Since Rich mentioned other reviews were coming to similar conclusions as their review, lets actually find out.
PC Magazine:
"...you know what? It's not bad, mostly because of its excellent touch screen, which is accurate and instinctive, and a far cry from the frustrating experience you get with the Samsung Glyde. Maybe this slightly boxy phone doesn't have all the sex appeal of Apple's phone, but it's pretty snazzy in its own right, and has enough pluses to satisfy those ...
Re: touch screen issues
Why have other reviewers stated that this is a huge improvement over the Glyde then? Samsung doesn't have good touch screen technology? How about trying out their YP-P2 3" touchscreen iPod touch lookalike. That device has a capacitive touchscreen and works just as well as the iPod's.
Look, I'm not trying to say you're didn't have issues, but when your review is so far extreme from every other, you have to understand why it seems fishy. The only real complaints ...
Fraud
It's not as if it's suprising - He had this same rhetoric for years. In fact, we all thought that Samsung had killed somebody in his family or something - either that or he is an Apple employee.
either way, BIG fanboy, who will go to lengths to post garbage. Cute seeing him here.
Liar
Massive ad campaign as in one website?
And no, you HAVEN'T used the Instinct. You have a thorough history of outright lying about using phones you never have. Come to think about it, you were BANNED from Sprint Users for lying about "testing a phone in your lab" that you hadn't. Your a fraud apple fanboy, you always have been, and unfortunetly for you, I still remember.
bluecoyote : Apple Fanboy
Do us a favor and go back to your Toshiba.
People may not remember you, but I sure do. You were banned from every website you frequented for spouting Apple and Toshiba garbage.
So funny.
Re: uhhh...navigation?
I'll expect you to review the 3G iPhone's new GPS features just as lightely then.
I just didn't find this review up to the other ones I've read on PhoneScoop. You spent a lot of time harping on the camera, close to no time talking about the Sprint TV service, or how you can sideload videos, what happens when one pushes the top signal area, or how the instinct's GPS features go beyond that of other Sprint phones, being ...
uhhh...navigation?
did you forget about this?
First TATA, now Videocon
Man, these Indians are coming.
Instinct UI Question
So the "home" screen on the m800 Instinct is just the menu, like the iPhone? So the user CANNOT apply any sort of wall paper, let alone change the color of the UI itself.
I'm really wondering why Sprint was so afraid to include the Samsung TouchWIZ UI that just launched in Korea. Now that would have been really innovative compared to this bug-ridden build from the ground up (WHY??) fisher-price looking user interface.
It is my opinion that ...
Re: Is this the Glyde with Sprint's software?
yes and no. They're both touch screens, but this is a new-er phone and uses a touch capacity (heat sensitive) display v. the simple pressure sensor found in the Glyde.
Re: Message to Bluecoyote AKA Sprint troll
You may think you can fool everyone else, but just because you got banned from every web forum on the planet doesn't mean you can fool me.
