This thing is a monster!
I wonder if they will include "Phone can double as a serving platter for an 18-21 pound turkey" in its specifications and features.
Re: RIP Steve
Steve Jobs revolutionized the world of technology and shaped where we are today (not just in terms of phones). He will be greatly missed by millions.
See you in the iClouds, Steve.
Re: OMG! It looks the same!
The one unanimous complaint everyone (who I assume all own Android phones) has is "It's not LTE capable."
Big whoop. There are plenty of phones that ARE LTE capable, so if that's what they want, they should just go buy those phones.
I am 100% happy with my iPhone 4 on AT&T's 3G network, and will happily buy the iPhone 4S at some point in the near future.
People need to realize just because it's not an LTE device, doesn't mean it's ...
Re: Because
If you think it's a fail, don't buy the iPhone 4S. No one is forcing you to buy it, bro.
Re: Because
Lol your source is a farcical newspaper.
Re: I don't think this is a fail
I also don't understand the hate the iPhone 4S is receiving.
Just because they didn't make it a 4G capable device, give it a television sized screen, or put a 12mp camera on it doesn't make it a fail.
Siri in itself is an enormous upgrade/feature that no other phone offered will have out of the box. Devs will no doubt start making apps that mimic Siri, but I doubt they will come close, or if they do, ...
Re: Of course new and revolutionary.....
Siri is "practically the same thing as Vlingo" in the same way that a Lexus is practically the same as a Kia because they are both automobiles.
Siri goes way above and beyond Vlingo by not restricting you to certain commands that it recognizes. Vlingo won't launch a weather widget if you ask "Will I need an umbrella today?".
This is an absolutely amazing feature for the iPhone 4S, and I'm not sure why there's so much hate toward it.
Re: No 4G = EPIC FAIL
Someone doesn't like Apple...
Re: because iPhone and Apple =
Exactly, Jellz.
I've used Android phones, and they are cool. But there's a lot more going on that the user has to control that the iPhone handles automatically.
I personally want a phone that does exactly what I need it to, when I want it to. I don't need to root (I can jailbreak if I really need more control over my iOS device), I don't need the ability to customize every last homescreen icon...my simple green icon that says ...
Re: No surprise at all.
I've had an iPhone on AT&T's network since the first day the first one came out. I briefly switched to a Verizon iPhone 4 from Feb. 2011 to July 2011 because I thought the network would be better. I have absolutely zero complaints about AT&T's 3G network speeds I get in my 72,000 population city in eastern central Wisconsin. Both networks seemed to perform at the same level, and by switching back to AT&T, I saved ...
Re: No surprise at all.
They also said that users SHOULD experience up to 3x faster download and upload speeds, CLOSE TO but not quite up to par with full 4G LTE speeds.
Re: This isn't a new development
Of course you'll call BS. You've already said you call BS. No matter what link I find you, you'll find some way to say it's not reliable, or trustworthy.
As I said before, what I originally SHOULD have posted was "Tim Cook was cited saying there will be an announcement of the new iPhone on October 4th."
But since you requested:

I hope Huffington Post is a reliable enough soure for you.
Re: This isn't a new development
Actually on Sept. 21st, sources cited Tim Cook saying he would make the announcement about the iPhone 5.
I wish to edit my original post of "Apple announced..." since it wasn't the official announcement. But, since the info all over internet news sites coincided, it held a lot more water than the usual Apple rumors.
Re: oh boy
So you've never anxiously waited for a phone to come out and speculated its features and form factor?
I've seen multiple Beta versions of iOS 5 in action, so I can pretty much tell you exactly what the new iPhone will be able to do in terms of software.
Refer to the other replies to this thread for known hardware upgrades.
The only thing us "idiots," who are "addicted to the fruit" are unsure of, (again, as stated in other replies) ...
Re: You konw what I appreciate?
You "konw" what I appreciate?
When almost every single early report of this announcement were exactly the same: slating Oct. 4th for the announcement/reveal of the new iPhone(s) and iOS 5.
This isn't a new development
Apple made this announcement last week already.
Re: Custom (iTunes) tones for Text messages!
But as we all know, Apple loves to add features fashionably late haha.
Whenever they add something, it's always a stellar addition though.
I absolutely cannot wait for iOS 5!
Re: I can't think of a SINGLE THING Apple didn't fix.
I just watched the video on Apple.com that shows iOS 5 in action, and all I have to say is "I CAN'T WAIT FOR FALL!!"
Yes some of the features are SIMILAR to Android phones, but the execution of them makes it 100% unique to Apple.
The only thing I hope I can disable is the camera shortcut on the lock screen. It doesn't take me more than 1 second to unlock the phone and press the camera ...
Re: control?
I'm sure they will have an option that allows you to select which media gets put into the Cloud.
My guess is it will work similar to iTunes and syncing devices to that. I have way more than 16gigs of media in iTunes on my computer, but I only have a 16gig iPhone. I am able to choose exactly what I want synced to my phone, and that's the only thing that goes there. I'm ...
Re: I can't think of a SINGLE THING Apple didn't fix.
I just hope it's not TOO much like the Android OS though.
Even if some of the features are similar, I'm still willing to bet the execution will not remind us of Android at all.
People say that Apple is behind the curve for wirless phone technology, but when they release a new iPhone or OS, they perfect it, and it's nothing short of amazing.
Apple never ceased to impress me, so I am really looking forward to iOS 5.
Re: Enough Already!!!
It's definitely not a crappy app. It far surpasses doing a search in your browswer or looking in a phonebook for the address and phone number of a building/store/restaurant etc.
No it's not turn by turn navigation with spoken word directions, but that's not what it's supposed to do.
If I need turn by turn navigation, I'll spend the lousy $150 on a small Garmin GPS unit.
Re: That's a shame
Do you have examples of this so called "fustercluck?" Just saying "MS Office sucks, iWorks is better" isn't a valid argument, and won't change my opinion.
Where does iWork excel and where does MS office fall short?
All my friends who are Mac users agreed with my decision of returning my iWork software and getting MS Office for Mac.
Re: Wow
What I see wrong is that you can get some top of the line Android smartphones for $50 if you find the right promotion.
My buddy just got the HTC Inspire for AT&T through Target mobile for $49.99. That sure as hell has a better OS than 2.1 on it, and it's at the $50 price point you mentioned.
Re: Wow
Android 2.1 has been available for a while now. There's no reason this phone shouldn't have been upgraded to it a while back.
My Original Motorola Droid had 2.1 and was upgraded to Froyo in early summer of last year already and they are just now pushing 2.1 out to this phone.
They should have just discontinued this phone if the OS is so far behind the curve.
Another version of iWork I won't buy
I didn't get it for my MacBook, and I'm definitely not getting it for my iPhone.
MS word for Mac works just fine on my MacBook, and I don't plan on doing any major word processing on my phone.
Re: It would seem to me the carriers need to be sued
I don't think that it's grounds for a legitimate lawsuit, cause you're not paying extra for the apps they install. The retail price of the phone is the same as it always was.
Yes it's stupid they pre-install certain apps, yes it's even more stupid you can't remove them without rooting your device, but there is nothing illegal about them doing it.
I'll just touch on this point quickly: Rooting your phone is very simple (there are ...
Re: Wonder how warranties will come into play now
My best guess will be that they will have a huge disclaimer that says that any irreparable damage done to the device because of rooting, flashing custom ROMs, over/underclocking the processor, etc. will completely void the warranty. It is easy to do all that stuff if you know what you're doing, but it's just as easy to brick the device if you screw things up if you aren't experienced with Linux based code.
As long as HTC ...
Re: Al Frankin is a Big Fat Hero
Why do people want everything done for them? We aren't in kindergarten? Terms and Conditions are thrown in your face when you download something on your computer or phone. It's the END USER'S responsibility to read them and know what they're agreeing to before they click "I Agree."
It's not like they're hiding information in their T&Cs. It's all layed out, right in front of you (sometimes even in multiple languages).
If I sign a ...

This is 100% true. And also funny.

Re: laws
Since when is it Apple's problem when people neglect to read their T&C? And using South Park as a credible source is completly ridiculous...you can't possibly compare real life to a cartoon on Comedy Central. I saw Daffy Duck blow his beak backwards with a shotgun in one episode, so if I go home and shoot myself in the head with a shotgun and die, is it someone else's fault? Same thing here.
They provide a full ...
Re: An Improvement?
Wow. I don't think getting rid of the physical camera button was a good idea (if they keep it that way). One of the biggest complaints that reviewers of phone always have is "no physical camera button." I bought the first Droid X the day it came out last summer, and the physical camera key was one thing I really liked about it.
Unless they do end up making changes before they offer the phone to customers, ...
An Improvement?
Not much in my opinion.
They made a marginal improvement to the pixel density, and put a dual core processsor in the X2. Unless there are more specifics to be announced, it doesn't seem like that much of an improvement from the original Droid X.
If the picture depicted is the actual Droid X2, they didn't appear to change anything about that either.
Re: 3g ? Why ?
I agree, Gunslinger.
4G is not a deal maker/breaker for me right now. I have never used a 4G phone, nor personally witnessed it's download and upload speeds, as it stands, 3G is perfectly fine for my needs. Not to mention I am on a Wifi network 95% of my day, so my up/download speeds are plenty fast. I'm not downloading albums, movies, huge games etc to my phone. I download those to my computer, then ...
Re: Video Chat
I mentioned in a different thread about Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS?) that if they can usefully integrate it into certain games, then they would have my attention about motion detection.
Re: biased much?
I can't remember who found this out, or what post it was in, but Apple put a section in their terms & conditions that flat out tells you the phone will be collecting and storing location data.
For that, it was a matter of people reading the whole T&C or just clicking "I Accept."
If Apple didn't have that in their T&C, I'm sure they would be in a lot more legal hot water.
Re: Video Chat
Then I guess I don't really need FaceTime to do that, because I never once thought, "I really wish this user-facing camera would automatically adjust the frame, zoom etc. of my video chat when someone else starts talking"
Say I'm talking to my friend who has his phone propped up on something, and he's relatively close (just head and shoulders in the frame), then walks across his living room to grab something, but remains in the frame. On FaceTime, he ...
Re: thanks big brother
There shouldn't be a right to privacy if it involves seeing justice is served.
Just over a month ago here in Wisconsin where I live, a 24 year old man was charged with 3 felony child sex crimes on an 11 year old girl. How did they find him? Police from Illinois tracked location data from the 11 year old's phone right to the man's apartment, and he is currently sitting in jail, awaiting trial where he faces ...

Re: That's good,. . .but I'm still waiting.
I was on the receiving end of one of his comments yesterday when I was talking about the novelty of the features in Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. I said the facial gestures/head movement recognition of the forward facing camera doesn't seem like it is something that would be widely popular or practical. He basically accused me of being against technological advancements, and said
"You probably thought DVD was "just fine" until you saw Blu-Ray. And if you ...
Re: That's good,. . .but I'm still waiting.
I don't really think we're being mean.
Personally I just don't want topics to go off on inconsequential tangents, which is what he usually does when he's bereft of other things to say.
There are sites devoted to letting you gripe, vent and share your opinion about the entire world around you...this doesn't happen to be one of them. I want to talk about what I signed up to talk about...wireless technology. I don't think that's mean or too ...
