Got one, then another

i have been using this phone in a seeding program for 3 months...i'll keep it short and sweet:

1. the battery life is not nearly as good as the treo 700w
2. works great w. exchange server, but you have to limit the size of incoming emails due to the amount of memory (1/2 of any other WM5.0 device)
3. response after hitting the buttons is similar to the razor...became so delayed that i got another...(there was a huge difference in response when i recieved the new one)
4. better phone features than any pda/smartphone i have used thus far...
5. i have a ton of sd cards, and i had to invest in minisd's...
7. broadband is as advertised, but the browser isnt that of the i730...
8. its cool to have no annyoying touchscreen/keygard things g...

Windows Smartphone

I understand the Q will run Smartphone instead of PDA software. I also understand Word and Excel are not available for Smartphone. Is there a work around for this or a third party software to allow viewing/editing of Word Docs?

What is the guesstimated price?

I have been doing some reading on the web and everyone has a guess as to what the price will be ($2500, $800, $400, etc.).

Do anyone have a REAL number?

Thanks,
Todd

If the Q is buggy...

If the Q is buggy at initial release, as one poster suggested it will be, how big of an issue is this? Instead of waiting a few months for them to work out the bugs, I for one would rather take the gamble and buy the phone when it comes out. If it's buggy, can't you just take the phone to a VZW dealer, and they can load updated software, when updates are available?

Thoughts?

How Smart Is The Smart Phone

Standing up, I have a problem. I admit my cell phone/pda OCD.

It has lead me to where I am. I have a 7250 Blackberry (Verizon), Link2Exchange exchange server with Blackberry OTA sync. I can tell you that the User Fields 1-4 on the blackberry do not sync with Outlook User Fields 1-4.

I have all of my email accounts (3 earthlinks, yahoo, gmail, 2 work accounts) redirected to my gmail account. The gmail account acts to save a copy of every email fro all my accounts as well as redirect them to the link2exchange account. I have the reply 2 address of the link2exchange accout set to my work email.

In addition a copy of each email is sent to the yahoo account because in a pinch I can log on to the yahoo account and respond with multiple em...

Random VZW Rant

They NEVER stop working for me...except for these THREE DAYS! This is long, but I'm ranting.

This is just comical. So, as I posted before, I ordered a VX9800 to bide my time until the Q is a viable option. I received the order confirmation. 2 to 6 days to deliver, and they weren't kidding. Not including the day I ordered, they took every bit of 6 business days, and a weekend to the SCHEDULED delivery date...at 7 PM no less.

Then it turns out the FEDEX driver was either to mentally challenged, or lazy, to find my house (in a small subdivision). So he enters an incorrect address note. Of course, noone contacted me, so I had to do the work. Called them, confirmed my address, and GAVE DIRECTIONS to my home. The next day, basically ...

OMFG

Okay let me recap and say everything that everyone will say until the phone comes out..

It's great!

It sucks!

It's comming out tomorrow!

It's never coming out!

It will be out next week next month next year ad infinitum.

Now all we have to do is wait until someone posts legitimate information in the form of a link to press release on the Verizon Wireless or Motorola website or a link that will point you to a location where you can order one.

I'm one of those V710 exchange suckers I was closely reading the agreement and it looks like you can go to the regular website or to a VZW store to order your replacement. Has anyone had any experience with this?

does web browsing require the $40 data plan?

I'm aware that this phone requires Verizon's $40 data plan add-on for most of the integrated e-mail features.

However, can you use the web-browser if you currently have one of the Text Messaging + Mobile Web options (ie: the $7.99 200 text messages + Web 2.0) plans?

Or does web-browsing also require the $40 data plan?

Thanks.

New info from Verizon today

I just couldn't wait any longer for news on this damn phone. And I have some connections who gave me some names of people/departments to speak with at VZW.

So I called VZW corporate offices under some "creative" pretenses and was able to speak with a high-level official (I promised not to divulge his name or position), who gave me the following information:

(1) They are trying like hell to get this phone to market by then end of May.

(2) May 22 is highly unlikely.

(3) It is quite possible that it will be an entire month longer before this phone actually gets released.

(4) The v710 credit thing is definitely affecting the release of the Q.

(5) He subtly indicated that it is being pushed to market by consumer dema...

Buy.com has a special on 1GB Mini-SD until May 6th ($24.95)

I know that SanDisk (and a few lesser known brands) are out with a 2GB mini-SD ... but Buy.com is having a pretty good deal on 1GB cards.

Kingston is offering a $13 rebate on Buy.com's $37.95 price for Kingston 1GB miniSD. Shipping is free...so you are getting a 1GB card for $24.95 (no shipping, no tax).
The cards come with a full size SD adapter.

That's the lowest I've seen so far (most other vendors are over $45 for 1GB and over $75 for 2GB)

I picked one up and will use it for a while until 2Gb card prices drop.

Hope this helps:

How will Verizon release the phone? On-line first? In stores?

I remember when the v710 came out, they were in stores the first day they were available.
If you showed up to a Verizon store early enough - you got one.

Does anybody know how this phone will be made available? Will it be on-line before it's in stores? Do stores have a waiting list?

Basically - what's the fastest way to get one?

The reason I ask is because I have to replace my v710 prior to May 31 in order to be able to use my v710 class-action credit toward a Q. If it comes out anytime in May (I hope)- I'll need to get one quickly.

Thanks!

VZW talking about the Q

Not like this is big news, but I was just at a morning seminar sponsored partially by VZW. They did a quick spiel on their WM5 phones and talked VERY VERY briefly about the Q and said it'd be out soon.

Of course, they wouldn't give a date.

BUT, I did get a cool little carboard cutout the exact size of the phone.

It's wider than a Treo 700 by a noticable margin, but much, much thinner.

Keys appear to be a hell of a lot smaller, better spacing, and I'm going to guess much more usable than a Treo 700.

The screen is surely smaller. That bugs me...

Also, the VZW dudes said Moto is pushing this as a "phone first, email second" sort of device.

Type A-GPS - can it be used with TomTom Navigator 5 software?

Does anyone know if the built in GPS can be used with third party navigation software like that from TomTom or Delorm?
