Nice to know.. I figure'd they take at least some interest in it. I believe CALEA compliance has to be injected somewhere into this. Until then I suspect many communications personnel employed by black-market organizations will have these on pre-order.

1- Drug dealers have more money than you, and DO get pda/smartphones on prepay somehow, even on providers that disallow data on prepay.
2. No phone is unlockable.
3. Drug dealers and hackers should form a business, hackers unlock the phone and drug dealers get them activated somehow.

What's the oldest phone I could get Verizon to activate? I know it needs that e911/gps feature since like 02 or 03 or so, but what's like the absolute oldest phone I could activate through them?

I know... you're a mac user and you dont care to know all the behind the scenes stuff. However, you can do anything with OSX u can with any other unix system. You can open up a terminal window and compile the opensource version of BitPim and use it like anyone else. they may even have an OSX native version.

Would VZW even be able to tell what kind of phone it is if you activated it yourself? Sure you have to give them the ESN but do they have the ability to tell the make/model of the phone just by the ESN? I've heard of freeup customers activating GIN phones without verizon knowing.... which would lead one to assume they can't.

This wont tell you if you're going to be within your home service area, but it can show you if you'll get a verizon signal, or a signal from any other carrier on your phone. I think the site is cool (but im a nerd), it references the FCC database of every wireless towers in America and has their longitude, latitude, elevation, street address, next closest tower, etc. Pretty cool.

I have no idea, it's personal preference. I'm getting the 7000, but to each his own. I have heard release dates pushed about the a680 tho.. not sure if they're any more credible than the ones on the 710, but good luck anyway.

but radioshack has accessories for it, not just chargers and data cables that can also be used with other lg products, but leather cases customized JUST FOR the vx7000:
