What do you guys think if I threaten to cancel my Verizon Wireless service and say I'm going to AT&T, so that they could tell me when the phone comes out. Eg: If they dont tell me when it comes out then i cancel and go to ATT.
Tell me if its a good or bad idea.

You don't actually think Verizon gives a damn?

Thats about the stupidest thing I ever heard. I hope you were joking. Yeah they'll tell you to cancel so you pay them the termination fee. They don't care either way. They make money on contracts not on phones.

It says XXX69 next to the quote. The forum somehow added your name above his since you responded first. Well this guy doesn't surprise me with the screen name XXX69. Yeah I know your less gullible and have more common sense then the regulars in this room.

Verizon makes money on contracts not on new phones. They could care less if motorola makes 10 new phones this year, as long as people are paying their bill and signing new contracts. Of course making new phones creates new contracts, but most of us are already verizon customers and aren't going to leave (and pay termination fee) just because we have to wait for new phones. Even if verizon doesn't sell the v710 or something comparable, i'll still be a verizon customer. Compared to other services (cingular, tmobile, at&t) I know that Verizon has the better service and thats the main issue when it comes to cell phones. I could care less if I have to pay another 10 bux a month as compared to tmobile or cingular, since I know there service sucks ...

This is spot on, but there is more to add. Cellular companies have saturated the market, i.e. they're pretty close to signing all the new customers they're going to get. New customer #'s have been going down over the last year or more. They latest measurement of how they are doing is the increase in add-ons, meaning games, ringtones, messages, pictures, etc. Great markets outside the US but here, the average customer simply wants a phone that is reliable and aren't looking for the extra stuff. Just us geeks want that!

So the challenge and where they are trying to head is to get existing customers to buy more add-ons: sending pictures or videos, messages, etc. This is why they need new phones, to provide more of those things for whic...

I agree with this also. The people on HowardForums, PhoneScoop, etc represent a very very small percentage of the cell phone user community. Most of us here want the latest gadgets and technology. Most people just want to use cell phones to make phone calls. I still see people with ancient phones. Why do you still think people use the StarTac? Verizon wants people to have phones that can support services that they can charge extra for like "Get It Now", picture messaging, etc. I'm convinced that's why put that loophole in the upgrade program to allow people to upgrade their phone 12 months into a 2 year contract. They figured that those people who got a phone in mid/late 2002 and early 2003 before Verizon started coming out with cam...

I agree. I always tell people that Verizon has the best service and even my friends and coworkers without Verizon admit it also. But they complain that Verizon is more expensive than everyone else and my response is "you get what ou pay for"

While I do agree with others who have posted, there is also the fact that a number of people will replace their current phones with a new model. Some will do so by extending their contract, thus pledging to pay Verizon for another two years, while others will simply pay full retail for a new phone, in which case Verizon does make money on the sale. Therefore, releasing new phones does increase revenue.

There are also plenty of people who will switch carriers to obtain a new phone. People did it with AT&T for the V600 and will do so for the V710.

Finally, I am confused about your posts BMR. You never responded to the question of why you have asserted in the past that you already own this phone, and are "richer than everyone else," b...

Finally something worth talking about in this forum. You are all correct. The market is saturated, they are trying to generate revenue with the extra features.

What I've found is if you give it time people will want the features. Most people didn't care about camera phones, now they are all the hype.

Pretty soon cell phones will be mini computer, garage door openers, remote controls, cameras, etc.

People won't want that technology right away but us geeks will adopt it and then it will catch on, just like everything else does.

I think geeks are visionaries and the rest of the world is trying to understand how it works and then when they really get it, then they want it.

I got sick of the usual release date and v710 features chat, so I started this thread to get some discussion on cell phone related topics.

Thank You for the positive feedback

Really depends on my mood. Yes I did have this phone but I ended up selling it since I saw people making so much money on them. I had it about 2 weeks ago and sold it to someone at a wireless store in manhattan. I'm only the authority if you believe what I'm telling you. Yes I have connections and I told everyone back on May 21st that it won't be coming out then. Well I couldn't wait to get it, then I bought it. Then I sold it. LOL. I only sold it because I paid 350 for it and turned 350 into 775. Rich people can be cheap also. I know plenty. Anyways, Look for this phone in the end of June until further notice.

Verizon Wireless is a division of The Verizon Corporation, MORON, and as a wireless division shares a corporate structure with the parent company, MORON. If the wireless division profits falter, MORON, the parent company is charged with the loss, and since you know everything please read the Verizon profile

Just a few more points here:
First of all, a company will bend over backward to keep the (major) shareholders happy, i.e. making money. They may not care too much about the average Joe, but they don't want anyone dumping 10,000 stocks in a day. The effect is sorta like a run on a bank, all it takes is one and EVERYONE is broke.
Second, Verizon has r...

NO, I'm NOT

It really depends. If they overlooked a bug that reboots the phone, or locks it up, and I have no idea how many testers there were on the project... but I've found flaming bugs in software in a lot of products I have tested after their out.

CAN YOU SAY MICROSOFT XP SERVICE PACK 1, 2, 3.
So uhh, I'm not kidding. How many time do YOU want to sit in the waiting area at Verizon waiting for a ROM or SW Flash. Personally, I've got better things to do, so YEA, I'll wait another two weeks to get the working version of software. 700 thousands phones, all in need of a ROM flash, sm...

just to let you know (coming from a VZW employee)

this idea is ridiculous, we have no idea when this phone will be released, they took this information away from us since employees were coming on boards like these and spilling their guts to you guys, so if you cancel to get the information you're just wasting $175

btw, VZW is a private company, there are no stockholders 😁
