Setting up Prepaid Phones

GWFOX

Ok guys and gals of VZW. Here is todays question.

Can a customer who has a LG-VX series phone from a former VZW activation (now no longer a customer) set up this phone as a VZW prepay?

LG VX10- no because its not GPS enabled and we cannot activate any phone on the non-GPS capable black list.

LG VX3100, 4400, 4500, etc.. are all GPS enabled

pretty much anything newer than the LG 3100 (including the 3100) is OK to activate over again.

Question.
Would VZW even be able to tell what kind of phone it is if you activated it yourself? Sure you have to give them the ESN but do they have the ability to tell the make/model of the phone just by the ESN? I've heard of freeup customers activating GIN phones without verizon knowing.... which would lead one to assume they can't.
?

Thanks

I'm sorry, but someone has something wrong here. Verizon does *not* (i've been told this with an vx6000 in my hand at lima, OH verizon store) GIN (GET IT NOW) phones to be used on their freeup service, as people were getting too much free stuff off it. if you don't know what GIN is i have a hard time believing you when you say that verizon reps can lookup make/model of phone by the ESN, as many people have activated GIN phones with verizon freeup, but via phone and not in the store. Are there any vzw sales ppl to verify this?

From what I understand on the Freeup GIN is NOT yet on that service. From what I understand, it will be a feature in the future of prepay.

Yes, you can look up a make and model by the ESN.

I've already addressed this topic towards the bottom of this forum. You can activate any GIN phone with our *Free-Up* service, however, you cannot download anything fro...

Are you being sarcastic? You do need to use our phones. You can't use a TDMA phone on a CDMA network and vice versa. Also, I believe the FCC won't allow ANY carrier to re-activate non-GPS phones any longer. It's not just VZW.

Yes you and activate any VZW approved tri-mode or all digital phone on a prepay acct. It does not have to be the Kyocera 414, which is the phone VZW is subsidizing for prepay right now, you can also buy any current phone at the full retail price and activate it on prepay.

Here is the deal;

Goto a RadioShack. Quiz the person on Verizon a bit, don't take too much time up otherwise if they are a nice person they could get pissed like I would and abandon you for yanking their chain.

Tell them you have a tri-mode verizon handset that is non-gps, and you would like to activate it on freeup. Chances are you will hit a roadblock here, cause we aren't supposed to activate NON-GPS phones. BUT the catch is if it is customer provided equipment, and we did not sell it (E*roes)activation system will allow it.

Now keep being nice, cause we aren't getting paid anything to do this for you. Most sales associates wont waste their time but bribe them to activate it there for a $10 or something.

Tell them to act...

Also before I get flamed.

BTW, if you are familar with E*roes and read the memos you will see this is perfectly within acceptable usage to do this. The problem is when you sell a non-gps phone to a customer From december 2003, on.

Check into it.

This is all true, however, accessing get it now with a prepay phone is considered stealing and is handled by the fraud department. You run the risk of having your service disconnected and your ESN 'red flagged' by FRAUD as STLN if you download from GIN with prepay. If you don't access GIN, feel free to use the phone all you want. I also heard from the GIN dept that they were working to set up a way to prevent any PrePay number from accessing GIN in the first place.

BTW: This is one of the only things I don't like about Verizon myself. Verizon doesn't realize how many customers we lose just by forcing our phones to only be able to accept ringtones/games/etc from GIN or vtext.com. You would think that we would see the benefit of givin...

this either isn't policy, or there is more to it.
