Close But I Must Return It.

Nov 20, 2006 by SteveHRocks

was SOO excited about this phone being released, i followed the threads, kept up to date on all the details and salivated over it just like so many other people did.

I have to say, after 4 days with this phone that all of its good qualities dont override some of the concerns I have had about it the past few days.

First the Pros:

1. Slim Profile
2. Large Internal/External Screens
3. Updated Verizon UI (Sort of)

Now the Cons: (For me..)
1. Hinge Quality-- Mediocre at best. Compared to other slim phones like the RAZR, KRZR, Katana, the hinge on this phone feel very weak and i held 6 or 7 different phones and they all had the loose feel when closed.

2. User Interface-- It's an improvement. But it is still the UI that Verizon has dictated for all of its EVDO phones.

3. Size-- While it is certainly slim, the ununsual configuration of the antenna makes this phone a lot longer than other slim phones.. its just very very long.

4. Build Material-- Good color choice, but LG should have used something like the material for the 8300 instead. This thing attracts fingerprints like crazy.

5. Exterior Buttons-- VERY annoying and hard to get used too.. way too sensitive even with the sensitivity on the lowest setting.

6. Reception-- While better than the KRZR and comparable to the 8300, still no signal inside my house. So far the only phone that lets me make and recieve calls inside my house (metal roof and siding) is the good old Motorola E815.

I know not most of these matter to everyone, but when it comes down to it, it is a deal breaker for me.

This is a very nice phone, dont get me wrong, just not for me after having it for a few days. So I purchased a brand new E815 from Motorola for 99 bucks. (Screen size on E815 internal is just as big or bigger.. no Verizon UI and 100X better reception.)

Thanks for listening to my ramblings...

Fantastic phone... finally

Dec 2, 2006 by docshaft

I've had this phone for a week now, and I love it. No, it's not perfect- but nothing in life is. BUT, it's better than any phone i've ever used.

PROS:
-VERY slim (great if you're a guy and you don't want a huge BULGE in your front pocket from other phones.... unless you want to attract attention)
-Super lightweight
-Great screens. Inside and outside can display different pictures. Inside screen is huge.
-Camera is decent
-Great sounding calls
-Good reception
-when open, it's a nice size to hold. (i felt like Zoolander using my old flip phones)
-software is clear and easy to use.
-miniSD slot

CONS:
-The volume/camera buttons are really small and not always easy to find
-The handsfree adapter plug is kind of a pain- couldn't they do without this?
-yes the speakerphone is quiet.

Overall, it's a great phone if you just want a sleek, SMALL, great looking, feature filled phone.

Had it for a week

I have had the LG8600 for a week. The green one caught my eye immediatly- it was so unique. i got to say, I love playing with it.

I recently changed from one company to another so i dont know if the great reception is due to the company or the phone itself. but the reception is the best.

Pros: Reception (its a big thing) love the color--(have had soooo many compliments), celltop, axess aps or good features, love that you can assign many numbers to one contact. can make my own ringtones and assign diffrent ones to each my contacts, user friendly, battery life is awsome!

cons: i cant send files through my blutooth!!!! why???? other than that, its a great phone!!!!

This phone is really sleek, let me tell you!
I got it for my daughter and I just got one as well because it's so nice.

It's slim, very slim
It's black and shiny, very shiny
It's a cool phone, very cool
It's easy to get used to and love, very easy
...it needs to be taken care of and wiped to stay very shiny but you won't mind because you'll love this phone.

Sophisticated looking phone

Great product. Makes you look very sophisticated instantly.

The black shiny finish is super nice looking
The phone feels good in your hand
It's very slim
The external display is just beautiful
Ringtones are nice and loud
Call quality is excellent

There are fingerprint smudges but they can be removed by just wiping the phone, no product or anything required.

Overall, a great phone!

Now where can i start? This phone is the greatest ever......If you love loud ringtones and love to record your own and use as a ringtone or alarm.....this would be the phone for you.....

Pros:
Loud Ringtones
Loud Speaker
Great Reception
Love to read my text messages on the front of phone without having to open it

Cons:
Keypad sucks....(real smooth cant tell where each letter is)
Gets smudges everywhere!

Other than that i love the phone and even loved it more than the Razor V3m

Best Phone I've owned

Nov 17, 2006 by HilaryD

Although I've had little to no experience with phones of this caliber, and have only had mine for one day, I can say that I am highly satisfied with my purchase.

Pro's
-Looks so sleek! (I especially like the big screens on the front and inside)
-Very user friendly
-So many features (but I'm also used to no camera)

Con's
-I absolutely hate the keypad. If there was one thing I could change that would be it. Texting is very difficult.
-The cover obstructs the camera lens

Can you hear me now?

Jan 31, 2007 by RobertRTG

At first the LG8600 appeared to be the perfect phone. I was very pleased with the speed of the computer and the overall fit/feel/looks of the phone. People on the other end of the line however were not so impressed. Several people complained they could not hear me clearly and that my voice sounded muffled. When I would call the same person right back on a verizon RAZR people said the clarity of the call was "200% better" and "difference was night and day". I traded in my little black LG8600 for a Motorola KRZR K1M yesterday.

Maybe I received a lemon....I can't be sure. But the LG8600 I had was not able to deliver my voice clearly and people on the other end had trouble understanding me no matter how loud/clear I spoke.

Everything else about the phone was a positive. Though I will add that if you use your speaker a lot this is not the phone for you. Speaker is not loud enough to use but that did not affect me.

LG's Flagship...eh

Jan 24, 2007 by HammerDown

I know a lot of people have them and most have had good results. (this is why I purchased one).
But should I really expect Verizon to allow me to go through God knows how many 8600's before I get one with a half decent Speaker Phone?
Seriously, the Speaker Phone on (my) 8600 it absolutely useless!
On any level it crackles and distorts and to even hear it with the sound level maxed it must be a few inches from my ear...sounds really bad.
And then there's the hinge...after a few calls and I'm very easy on a phone, I treated this thing like it was a newborn... its got some very noticeable wobble to it.
*I can't see this phone holding up very well, not at all.

I will say, it did perform pretty good in my home w/only one signal bar.

If this is LGs Flagship...well, you get my point (shaking head)

I AM RETURNING IT!!!

Nov 27, 2006 by Marc E

I have used Verizon since it was Bell Atlantic Mobile. I have owned many phones. The VX 8600 looks and feels good in your hand, the call quality and battery are also very good. Both screens are very sharp.

CONS:
The phone is slow, open the flip and the screen takes about 1 second to appear. All functions on the phone take a moment to execute, and the camera is especailly slow.

Cannot assign a unique ringer to blocked or unavailable numbers.

The camera/video camera is AVERAGE with no flash.

To charge the phone you need to remove a piece of plastic that you cannot permanently remove. Hence you must pull this little cover off and then back on every time.

The speakerphone is the WORST I have ever used. It is virtually useless and you cannot use it will the phone is CLOSED!!!

The ringers are quite limited and NOT LOUD!

When you are on the phone the main screen goes totally black. Hence, you cannot see the call time or # that called/dialed or find the mute key or #'s for a 3 way call.

The keypad is small and has the same texture. Finding the small keys or texting will take a lot of practice.

I currently have a Motorola E815, which has an equal battery, none of the cons above, a flash, more memory, better speakerphone and louder ringers, but its big.
