Another Awesome LG Phone

May 5, 2007 by TDub64

This is my fourth LG phone. Prior to purchasing the VX-8600 I've owned the VX-6000, VX-7000 and the VX-9800 (The V).

My last phone was a Motorola VCast RAZR phone. Nice phone, great features, awesome design but a less than satisfying user interface.

This phone has everything you need... IN A PHONE. I won't bother reviewing the quality of the camera. I have a Sony Cybershot digital camera for taking quality photos. Nuff said on that.

The phone features an outstanding slim design which allows it to fit comfortably in your pocket, nearly eliminating the need for a carrying case.

The user interface makes this phone extremely user friendly. The menus is easy to work with making all of the various features easy to find.

I've been able to use the phone up to four days without having to charge the battery. Charging the battery takes approximately three hours if totally drained.

The sound quality is outstanding and both the front and main screens have excellent resolution, despite the size.

The only negative with this phone is the speaker-phone. The quality of the sound is not the best, in fact that is the only feature that I would give the RAZR higher marks on in comparison to this phone.

Some users have knocked the phone for the design of the keypad. I've had no problems using the flat keypad.

The phone does tend to get a lot of fingerprints and smudges because the shiny black design. Minor inconvenience as far as I'm concerned. The black design gives the phone a very sexy, sleek appearance.

If you're looking for a full-feature PHONE with a slim design, I highly recommend the LG VX-8600.

Get this phone

I love this phone!
So far the only problem I have had is that the first one I had stopped working after about 2 weeks. It just didn't turn on one day.

Major Pros:
Decent MP3 player
mp3 ringtones (if you got Skillz) I had to edit some songs with Nero Wave editor, and then compress them into mp3 with Windows Media player.
Great quality screen
You can read text messages from the front LCD with out opening the phone.
Uses micro SD: I have a 1gb music on here, and am working on some video. This phone is very flexible for media.
No need to download wallpapers from your phone for $2, this phone can read .gif and 256 color .bmp. Go to google images and advanced search. Change to large GIF and search images for free.
Call clarity is amazing.

Major Cons:
no organization of button placement.
poor menu setup (to get to calculator you have to go Menu -->Settings-->Tools-->Calculator.

Stuff that suxxorz but should not be too much of an issue:
fingerprints: get over it!
camera: if you rely on a 1.3mp camera, you have other issues.
no flash: see above comment
its huge when opened
speaker phone is lame, and you can't shut the phone while using it.

In summary, while I have some minor complaints, the phone is one of the best I have used.

Good Phone

LG has made a great phone on the Alltel network. The Ax 8600 seems to have excellent signal in the rural areas of South Dakota. Overall this phone competes very well with the motorola rarz.

Pro's
More narrow that razr.
Celltop ready
Easy access to expandable memory

Con's
Flat Key pad
Extremely small buttons.
inability to reassign shortcut buttons.

Solid Choice

Absolutely no complaints with this one! All "PROs" and yet to find any "CONs"

good phone

i have alltel, and this phone was just released yesterday after a month of waiting. i came from the E815.

PROS:
big, clear screen
nice size (skinny, its great)
camera is good quality
speaker for music
the outside buttons
durable
microsd slot
bluetooth
the charger actually works!
ability to read texts on the outside
the ringer is LOUD
the Internet is 3X faster

CONS:
the buttons are something i will get used to. its not as easy to text and drive like with my E815. they aren't as easy to press either.

another thing ill miss is the ability to close the phone and still be talking to someone. it ends the call when the flip closes.

I'm still not sure about the new celltop that alltel has. it really doesn't make sense to me on why its there.

i think its fairly priced ($99.99 after $50 mail in rebate)

Ive attempted to use the stereo bluetooth to wirelessly listen to music, but i haven't figured that out yet.

I LOVE THIS THIS PHONE!!!

I work for verizon wireless, when I saw this phone comin out online I was wicked excited!!! Finally I got it the day it came out, I love the sleek look, the attractive outside Black, chrome siding...love it!!! Best feature I think is the fact that you can read your texts on the outside screen, I've showed all my friends and now they want it, they are the one's showing people and askin to open my texts. I thought I wouldn't like the flat keypad, but I haven't had a problem workin it I can still text n drive.

Pro's
-You can read texts on the outside
-Touch mp3 player
-Sleek/thin body style
-Durablity (I drop mine constantly)

Con's
-No Flash
-Speaker phone (might as well not be there)

This is definitely the phone you are looking for if you want an excellent device, that has all the bells and whistles. not to mention it looks great.

PRO'S:
-large screen.
-excellent volume.
-great camera
-thin sleek design
-large keys
-great battery life
-doesn't have verizon's horrible menu
-mp3 player
-charges fast
-heat sensitive buttons on front (great for reading text messages without even opening phone)

CON'S:
-relatively expensive. (130.00 with 2 year contract)
-text message box only holds around 80 messages, but this can be fixed by simply changing your phone to auto erase mode.

Nothing else.

as you can tell by this phones overall rating its a very well crafted device. i strongly recommend it.

LG VX8600 Great and better than Razr experience

Mar 9, 2007 by gwennah

I just got this phone about a week ago after returning the Razr, which I found unsatisfactory. I am totally in love with this phone!! It is beautiful and a pleasure to use. I haven't used the music v-cast or anything like that, so i can't comment on it.

PROs
-size-feels good to text with and talk on (the razr felt too wide for my hand)
-the buttons- although flat, are easy to text and dial with
-Screen-both inside and out customizable and beautiful (great side note, can view text messages on front screen)
-sounds/rings-you can turn off the on/off music!! there is a vibe and ring function!!
-looks-Great!

CONs
-camera-not very good
-fingerprints? I have to say though I don't really notice them very much at all
-headset adapter is horrid, and makes it impracticable for anything but bluetooh.
-battery life- could be better?? but probably not much

Note to Verizon users-this phone has many of the features Verizon has locked on the Razr. This phone can be customized through settings so that it doesn't scream verizon:)

Incredible Phone!!!!!!

This phone is amazing in every way...but it is definitely true that the front is very hard to keep clean...but when you clean it, use something soft like tissue because otherwise, it will get scratched...I learned that the hard way.
