Not Worth it!

Nov 22, 2005 by SonyEricssonZ520

3 of my friends including me bought this phone like 3 days ago and then it started shutting it self off. After all they (including me) also found out that the features on this phone are horrible. Here is my Pros and Cons List of this phone:

Pros:
Some Ok Ringtones (5 or 7)

Cons:
-Mp3 player is a java app so it is a lot more likely to freeze and be a problem
-Keeps shutting it self off after every 15 mins
-Battery life is horrible on this phone (3 hours talk time, 3 days standby to be exact)
-No Infrared
-Bluetooth range is horrible. Couldn't even get a headset connected when it was like 3 ft away from be
-Wireless Web is super slow
-RF performance is horrible (no interference). I get 2/5 reception where a tower is like 1 km away from me and i am on top of a hill. I am using Rogers in a open area.
-Size. It is Big
-When we tried to upload mp3's through the USB cable, it does not work and my computer is running Windows Xp Pro with all the latest upgrades and it dosent even recognize it.
-Memory is like 5 mb. Should have at least 12 mb for this type of phone.
-Comes with one boring game. Very hard to download even One game.
-Camera quality is not so good
-Feels cheap
-Innumerable Error Messages

And Much More Cons.

I would not recommend this phone to anyone.
Instead I would recommend the Sony Ericsson Z520, which is A LOT better than this phone.

MORE Money, and MORE problems!!

I bought this phone about 2-3 months ago and although it wasn't flawless, it worked great. However recently this phone as become virtually unusable.

1) My vm service center number keeps randomly deleting so I have to set it up everytime I want to check my vm. And, of course I still get the text message from nobody when I do check my vm.

2) my reception has dropped tremendously (even in places where I previously had good reception);

3) The video camera only takes 60 sec videos at a time, no matter how much memory you have left.

4) I automatically can't get or maintain service inside or outside my calling area and have to manually search (to no avail) for the network,

5) the phone freezes or locks up randomly causing me to have to disconnect the battery.

I should have known there was a reason no carriers picked it up. This phone is terribly unstable. I will probably never an unlocked phone (that's doesn't have a carrier counterpart) again.

My only hope to salvage the $250 I wasted is to is to try and flash/flex it. (which I have absolutely no experience doing and will probably kill the thing anyway)

Prices have been dropping drastically lately, but be smart and stay away from this piece of junk!!

Hate to do it but

This is my first review after searching this site and Howard’s forum for several months and finaly purchasing the v635 for $230 and the h850 blue tooth $59 to go with it.

First,

This phone is hardly perfect out of the box, far from it. The chances are you will get the 24r flash(software) and it has many bugs.

Problem 1. Voicemail. When you get a message you do not get a icon but a text message instead with a @ or a ! symbol. You then get a second message after you check your mail. I do not use text messages so if you do the math you are looking at 20 cents for every message and yes it adds up.

Problem 2.

The video recording with 24r is terrible. The sound is 1 to 2 seconds off from the pictures and for me makes recording a waste.

Problem 3. Forget about the fast forward cradle. I use to save 500 min a month with my v400 but you guessed it, it will not work with the v635 no matter what the flash you have.

Other general cons, Forget about using the flash, it’s a joke. You end up with a big white spot in the corner of your picture and a very bad image quality. Forget about internet until you add your wap settings. Signal strength for me here in Los Angeles went from 4 to 5 bars with my v400 to 2 to 3 with v635.

Pros? I wish I could say more but Bluetooth is about it.

Believe me I wanted to give this phone a ten! But there really is no way. To many bugs to many cons. YES, YES, I know there are many flash/seem edits to get rid of most problems but even the pros over at Howard’s are ending up with paper weights after trying them and for the avg joe who just wanted to use his phone he researched for months it’s a huge disappointment. There is a reason the phone was not released in the US folks and I found out the hard way. To all the 4.8 ratings I just want to say wow really!! Good luck

Not worth it if your not into fixing the problems it has!

Pros:

In short there are a lot of pros. You can read about them in the specs. I will just like to say it has everything I need and more.

Cons:

1. By far the worse thing I hated about this phone was a bug that when a person would sent me a voice message and I will get a text message instead that cost me 5 cents. What's worse is when I will then answer the voicemail and I will receieve another text message another 5 cents.

2. Don't like how sometimes there might be a problem with the phone where I have a hard time hearing the other person or the person has a hard time hearing me. Even when both of us have very good reception

3. I think I got a bad phone or bad battery. I will have to charge the phone everyday, even if I did not use it that day.

4. If you want to fix stuff on your phone you will have to buy a data cable and have to learn how to fix it too. I'm new to fixing stuff on phones. So I don't want to risk flashing it or flexing it. But I will seem edit it.

5. If you live in the US, and you get this phone, your service company cannot help you becuase it is an import phone.

6. You can't delete the standard ringtones, wallpapers, or videos. The only way to do that will be if you do a flash.

7. Picture quality IS NOT that good.

8. Reception IS NOT that good with this phone here in Los Angeles for me.

9. Hard to learn how to use the voice dial command. Hard to problem it too.

10. If you want to buy anyting for the phone it will cost a lot because it is an import phone.

11. Drop calls sometimes for no reason.

12. Sometimes that a long time to sent a text message.

This is my third phone, so I will have to say that in awhile this phone is way better than my previous phones. But in another way this phone really sucks! This phone has so many things it can do that it sometimes do regular phone stuff. People interested in this phone might consider getting something else. There just too many bugs/stuff to fix that it's not worth the money!

Loved it. Programming was a pain in the rear. Tmobile tear level 3 is great for helping with this.
Con
Battery comes loose causing it to cut off.
Pros
Good battery life.
Very resourceful.
Does everything if you can get it programmed.

I would reccommend this phone.

Hope this helps!

the best phone!!!

I have had this phone for a few days now (replaced my v300 that fell into a pan of lacquer thinner) and it is awesome. I have had NO programing problems and it performs flawlessly! picture quality is incredible and takes great videos. It says that the limit for video length is 15 secs, untrue!! i got mine to take 1 min. and 45 sec. videos just buy going into the video setup window and changing the "video length" from mms (restricted to 15 secs so it will be small enough of a file to fit in a text message) to "maximum". this phone blows me away!

Pros:
*transflash! with a 512 mb card it can hold over 650 pics, around 690 mins. of mp3s, or over 100 mins. of video!!!!!
*very user friendly
*2 ways to listen to mp3s (mp3 player app. or in the "sounds" file)
*killer looks
*great batt. life
*tons of features
*the golf game and pic. editor are fun
*easy to transfer music to it
*simple to make rig tones from mp3s from parts of a song (can select where it starts, how long it goes, fade options, from a 1 sec blip of a song to the entire song) with Motorola's phone tools
*i could go on forever but now i just want to play with it!!!

Cons:
*cant think of any besides not offered by any U.S. carriers so you have to buy it from e-bay or something like that (although the e-bay sellers include tons of extras. i got a car charger, transflash card w/ sd adapter, leather case, Motorola's phone tools cd and usb cord, headphones, European to U.S. wall plug adapter, and something else that i can't remember for $250 shipped!!and with no contract!!)

Pro:
*the one con is a pro!!!!!

Less than expected

Sep 4, 2005 by mjo2

Feature rich, but not up to the quality expected.
Reception was horrendous-and this was after returning one phone and trying another. Lost signal constantly and even when signal showed bars, sound was choppy-on both units. It is not the carrier, as I was holding a Nokia 6230 and a Samsung P-207 in the other hand and had great reception with both of those. If BOTH of the V635s were defective, I think this says even more about Motorola. As the lack of reception led me to return the phones, there was no reason to try the other features. I will say that the screen was beautiful and crisp.
The phone was very heavy and not what I am used to in my pocket. On a belt clip or holster, I would not notice the weight, but in a pocket a definite issue.

Average phone

Oct 23, 2005 by Fido

Unfinished product.

Menu is one of the worst I ever used.
Battery is just average.
RD is just above average.

Speakerphone is amazing and consctruction is very good.

Wait for a deal, cause that phone is really not perfect.

The user interface is really terrible, even annoying.
