solid phone

Feb 4, 2007 by zvadim

basically it's a v600 with some bugs ironed out, transflash slot, color outer display and vibe & ring at the same time. I've bought it on eBay unlocked & unbranded and have been using it with Cingular for about 2 years now.

Pros:
aluminum outer construction

good size screen

highly customizable (the web is full of info)
lots of features

mature OS with nice interface

Quad-band & Edge
"flash light"

Cons

shaky reception quality in mixed 850/1900 Cingular areas.

Some users will experience @^ voice mail bug that'll require them to become a phone flash & modify expert :)

Stupid power & data connectors that deteriorate with use. Standard USB would've been awesome.

if you store your phone book on the SIM card you can't have multiple phone numbers for one name

front face plate can slide off too easily at times.

Battery life should be better, I can't really go over two days w/out charging even with little use. Typically a "regular" user would have to charge it every night.

Very Good Moto

Sep 30, 2005 by Djanifer9512

First off I am a Cingular dealer and have dealt with alot of Motos. This is one of the most feature rich phones that I have owned to this point. the v635 posseses all of the features that make certain phones a "must have".

Pros
262K display.. Crisp!
Reception... Second only to the Razr
Speaker... Awsome
Bluetooth...
1.3mp Cam & Video
Micro SD Memomry slot... Thankyou Motogod...

Cons
Has the same problems other Motos that I've used have...
The phone resets itself every so often. This is the one bug I really wish this phone didn't have.

Overall this phone is practically a steal ($219.99 SimonCells.com) compared to a v551 ($269.99) or a V3 Razr ($319.99). So if you needed a solid unlocked gsm cell phone,, this is the one you've been looking for...

Great Phone!!!!!

Sep 21, 2005 by jay2984

After having this phone for 2 weeks now i have found very few problems with it but a lot of things that i do like coming from a Motorola phone. Basically the same O/S that is found in all Motos so very easy to use and find your way around. I had the Razr V3 before this which i used for a few months then purchased this one for about $240 online since its not available through my cell provider. I like this phone just as much as the V3 maybe even alittle more sense I'm not so afraid to scratch it or drop it like the Razr.

Pros- Overall design, Bluetooth, Flashcard slot, loud ear piece, price isn't to bad

Cons- Speakerphone makes unwanted noise, freezes sometimes but not often, internal display could've been bigger

so so

a week after I bought the v635 I had to go back to my v551 because I found out that every time I check my voice-mail, a text message is sent to the phone with an @ sign and the date and time.

he phone itself is very feature-full. flash for the camera, Trans removable memory, decent menu navigation, but it is a little bulky. anyone with my problem, tell me what you did to stop the text msgs.

a decent phone

Pros
* contacts can be grouped; ability to show all groups or just a single group
* ability to show only the primary number
* solid construction
* good volume; good external speaker
* dedicated keys for camera and internet
* more control over settings than v551

Cons
* a bit heavy
* doesn't appear to be a way to store addresses and birthdates for contacts
* camera seems to have a blue hue
* doesn't come w/ USB or headphone
* MP3 player is slow to load
* some initial troubles with setting wallpaper (resolved)
* messaging settings should be accessible under 'Settings' menu; currently buried under messaging menu

Pretty Good - Getting there finally

Jul 19, 2005 by seindjat

I've had tons of phones, and this is my latest, and I think it is finally getting there. It has almost all possible features, but has some drawback still:

CONS:
- has no timer feature
- when phone is closed, pictures can be accidentaly taken when the phone is in the pocket
- only 30 incomming messages are kept and 80 outgoing no matter how much memory you have, very inconvinient
- camera must have perfect lightinng to take a good picture
- when you flip the phone open, it sometimes freezes for a second before picture comes up
- battery is not as good as stated
- phonebook has a flaw, you cannot see how many numbers a person has while looking up phonebook
- a little too bulky, can be made much smaller and lighter
- messaging has a flaw - when you look up outgoing messages, it does not show you to whom you sent a message (sms), so you have to figure it out. it does not even show you which number it was sent to

PROS
- has almost all available features, so pretty good overall

Nice Phone...BUT?

Jun 10, 2005 by crjt1

This is a really nice phone...many terrific features...but.

Again the Motorola font must be improved. Moto continues to struggle with poor font quality and the V635 is no exception. The font should be a bit thicker and or larger, along with maybe some font options. I'm sure an easy fix could be provided by Moto to resolve this. Please correct the font Moto...then this phone has everything.

Thanks,
CRJT1

One word, AWESOME!!!!

Apr 27, 2005 by Michael95GT

Well i've only had the V635 for alittle over 24hrs so far but it's been great. If you liked the V600 or any other Vxxx Series, you'll love the V635. Motorola has worked out all the quirks, Finally!! I'm using it on Cingular(GSM 850)in the West Tennessee area.

PROS:
Excellent RF (Reception)
Great earpiece volume
EDGE (Class 4)
Search function in phonebook(Finally!!!)
External color screen
1.2 Megapixel Camera(actually very nice for a phone)
Video Capture(w/sound)
Bluetooth
Loud MP3 ringtones
Removable Transflash Card(512mb max SO FAR)
METAL changable faceplates
Uses same chargers, cables, etc as other Vxxx Series phones.(Holster for V4/500 series fits perfect)

CONS:
None to speak of, performance wise.
Have manually set up your WAP, MMS, etc.
Very few games available for it.
Not alot of accessories available yet.
Insurance won't cover it, because it isn't supported by any U.S. carriers YET.

I DEFNATELY recommend it, especially if your a gadget freak. I go through phones rather fast, I get one, get bored with it, sell it and get another. I think I'll be keeping this one for while.

Excellent Choice

Price-Quality-Specifications excellent rating.

It has a lot of useful stuff, very good quality (it´s not incredible, but better than most).

The mini-sd memory (how I call it) is really great. I use it a lot, making it very easy to take a video in a class and passing it to the computer just there without wires, but with the SD adapter.

Like always, I must say this kind of phones are bigger than what I consider adequate. But anyway, I bought it and I think it was an excellent buy.

Of course, take into account Motorola is planning to launch better ones this year, so if your patient, wait a couple of months.

Pretty Damn Good Phone

I just got this phone two days ago and I'm very pleased with it.

PROS:
-Great Style
-Easy Menu (slightly upgraded from the V600)
-Internal screen is unbelievable, very sharp
-External screen is what you would expect,
-The camera! So much better, clearer and more options.
-Great Signal, even better than my old nokia, I have Cingular in Wash. D.C.
-Great Speakerphone
-Comes with MP3 software that organizes songs and you can make playlists, I suggest buying a sizable memory card 128MB or up to take advantage of this

CONS:
-Quite Bulky, I expected this as its the same as the V600 but I guess its worth it for all the features
-A little heavy, not used to it, but I always know its in my pocket
-the battery life doesn't seem great, but I'll report back in a week.

Also note: You can only save 1.2MP pics to a SD memory card, but I uploaded them to my computer and they're pretty goos quality. I printed out a 3x5 picture and it looks perfect. This phone is an MP3, digital camera and internet powerhouse all in one. I'm pleased I spent the $400.
