Headset Jack yes, generic phone headsets no?
Do I have a defective phone, or does the 2.5 jack require a proprietary headset?
I've plugged two otherwise satisfactory wired headsets into the headset jack, and they both buzz, a LOT. They work fine with my landline keypads.
Although always buzzing unacceptably (any tone would be unacceptable, but this cannot be ignored), the buzz volume varies as my the phone in my hand moves, as if passing through nodes.
The fidelity, affordability and privacy of wired headsets is Reason One why I chose this model, so I need to resolve this quick.

Forgot to mention... I thought maybe the headset was picking up a Bluetooth signal, but I've confirmed that Bluetooth is turned off.

The headsets that buzz are typical $20 Radio Shack headband models. I also have a dangly in-line mice type, and a teensy over-the-ear headset from what Radio Shack billed as the world's smallest portable phone (looks like a toy, but it works).
Go figure, the cheap ones don't buzz. Maybe it's the cord? The clean ones have a two-wire cord, while the headband models' cords look shielded. Buzzing varies and is louder when I hold the phone away from me. Maybe the shielding acts as an antenna?
Or maybe it's different types of mics or earpieces?
