how is this phone for keeping extensive contact details for personal/work contacts?
What features truely make this different from the Palm phones? or are they pretty similar in what you can do with them?

Sorry if this is a bit vauge.. thanks for any comments.

I'm rather pleased with the contact details. It lets you keep just about any info you could want in the phone. My biggest gripe with the contact management seems to be that you have to choose on an individual basis how you wish to organize the contacts, be it first name last or vice versa. You don't have a global option. PITA when you have a couple hundred contacts...

Difference wise, I prefer the bluetooth implementation on the Q. Palm still doesn't have voice activated dialing, a feature that should have been present from the 650 on. Getting around one the Q is no harder than navigating either Palm, so it's a wash to me there. Other features I can't really comment on yet.

the overarching advantages of the Q versus a palm treo are in the the streamlined design, includin the form factor, combo thumbwheel (helps former crackberry addicts) and nav keys on front, and some of the creature comforts crammed into a small attractive package. The fact that the blutooth supports stereo applications for music and such answers questions beyond your pda interest. The Q tends to do that to the observer who does not yet own one, it is a glossy, do-a-lot-of-things machine that usually proves to be more than any one person really wants it for. For the interested party who has never owned such an advanced device, it is wise to make friends with someone at a local store who owns the Q already and to see if they mind you droppin...

thanks for the comments, that's just the insight i was looking for. I currently have a vx-8600 and have not yet moved to a smartphone or pda phone. Form Factor is a big deal to me b/c i hate lugging around something i can't slip in my pocket. Also i'm not going to be using it so intensively that i need more than what the Q offers. I look forward to going into vzw again and playing with it for a little while to make sure it's what i want. In addition, i may not get the data package b/c at this point not sure if it s really worth the extra cost to me so it seems that this phone would still be worth it for the organization i'm looking for.. b/c there is nothing worse to me than carrying a phone and a pda around.. i tried and hated it.. would u ...

As an insider in the field, I can really respect how well you know what you need. I think the Q is even better for you than it is for me. I bought it for the express purpose of the data capabilities and I stil keep my 8300 for calls. I was goig to upgrade that to the 8600 but then Verizon announced the launch of Vcast TV for 1st Quarter this year so Im holding out for those phones, if they turn out to be worth a darn. If you do upgrade, let me know. Ill take that 8600 off your hands and help ofset the price of your Q.

As for the features you honestly are limited pretty much to the Q. He treos are heavier than they look and chunky in a pocket. the Q solves that easily.

keep a few things in mind so you give it a fair chance:

Im still mastering the video issue. the media player does not support mpegs for some reason. I used a video file converter and converted afew movies to 3gp and 3gp2 formats. both formats play on the Q but are really choppy and play at the wrong speed and the audio doesnt line up. So far, the best use of the WMP has been for MP3s. keep me posted. Im always on here someplace.l
