Has anyone actually downloaded the new firmware update on the Q??

If so can you reply to this thread and tell us what happens with the contacts and how it upgrades the phone.

Well I tried but was not successful. Apparently, the "firmware" version on my phone turned out to be a pre-production version of the firmware, and the software upgrade tool would not work with firmware versions before a certain date! There are many of us out there in this predicament from what I can gather from Moto. Those who bought early Q's may have received Q's with pre-production firmware. ANyway the options available are as follows:

send your phone into Moto and they will take care of the firmware and software upgrade and return your phone in 10-14 days (you must call them to get a rma number)....or

call Verizon customer service like I did and after some discussion have a factory refurbished phone sent out (hopefully with the...

At first my upgrade failed as well... I ended up with a black screen that said Flash update, USB cable connected. As it turns out, my battery died in the middle of the process. When the upgrade failed, I found out the hard way that the phone could no longer be used as a charger. I went to my local Verizon store and picked up an extended battery. I had them make sure it was fully charged before I took it home. I plugged it in, re-ran the flash, and it worked like a charm. The device actually seems a little quicker, and the sync with Exchange is very quick. Still playing with it now, but so far it looks good!

Q2-BP_C_ 04.08.04P
MP_BSP_C_01.07.05-08P_HW_P2.1

to view on phone go to settings/phone settings/phone information

Thanks. Looks like I have the pre-production version, too. Will try the update today. Any advice? I looked around the Verizon site yesterday but could not find the link to upgrade. If you have it handy, that would be appreciated. Else I will call them.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

the firmware upgrade doe not exist online or at the Verizon Store accordingly you have 2 choices as follows:

You can call vzw customer service and get them to send you a replacement after they understand the situation (note it will be a factory reman which is as new) or you can call Motorola and they will take the phone in and replace it with one that is up to date as well. VZW sent me the phone by Fed Ex and it arrived in 2 days as promised. Moto requires a 2 week turnaround time. In each case the phone will have updated firmware and include the software upgrade. Hope this helps

John,

Please note that the website that you cited is for the SOFTWARE update not the FIRMWARE update. The FIRMWARE can only be updated by Motorola at this time.

tnvogel,

Thanks for your assistance. I just finished the update online using the URL http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/support/ update/
(BTW, the Verizon support guy said 1) put phone in flight mode before updating and 2) the Q update link IS on the Verizon page (but I didn't go look for it.)

My versions were the same as yours at the start (the pre-prod versions) and now they match your post-update versions. So I think the process DOES update the firmware. (Isn't the second line the firmware?)

The process was not without issues. I got into the Device 10 error mentioned on qusers.com and had to use the Word file provided there to get past the New Hardware Wizard. Also, the Motorola instructions are not exactly correct at seve...
