Outlook 2003 Small biz with exchange

splat

May 26, 2006, 2:19 PM
We run the above for our small office. I have had a BBerry for almost 4 years and it works well with my desktop redirector.

Will I be able to get my Q (it is supposed to arrive next Thurs) to obtain email like my blackberry, or am I never going to be able to recreate the push of email like I have with my BB?

Thanks to all.

If you have Exchange Server 2003, SP2, the answer is yes. 🙂 In fact, it's enabled by default. No additional configuration should be needed on the server. If you quickly google "exchange direct push" you will find many articles about implementation. Note, even if you don't have SP2 and true push, you can still use the Always-Up-To-Date (AUTD) method where the server sends a text message to your device to tell it to go fetch updates.

I have used this and it is very smooth. But you do need the Outlook Web Access feature enabled. OWA's web address has to be entered into WM5 Active Sync along with your user name and password. If you use AUTD you also have to enter your phone's EMail which is your number @vtext.com. Those messages don't count as SMS by the way (they fall under your data plan), so don't go off and buy a messaging plan just for this. If you have SP2, the EMail address is not entered at all.

FYI:

The Q is not shipping with MSFP (Messaging & Security Feature Pack) so you will not be able get "push email". You can do scheduled pull email delivery or manual synchronization like you have with Windows Mobile 2003 devices is all that is available.

I guess they rushed the Q to market so fast that they didn't have time to put in a feature available for six months now... 🙄

are you saying that the shipping Q will not work with Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 push technology? Everything I have read so far states it will.
