I see them for sale on eBay

I saw several sellers offering GSM versions of the Q phone for surprisingly low prices today, with "buy it now" generally set to $300. I have no idea, however, what these guys are really selling because they all ask for e-mail conversations with bidders before they'll accept a bid. It looks a littly fishy to me. Can anybody tell me what the scam might be?

I got a reply from e-Bay seller Curt Malcom [curtmalcom@yahoo.com] offering to sell Q phones in lots of five at $900 per lot, including shipping. I'm looking forward to seeing your review of the unit you just ordered.

I can't find the auction you're talking about. Was it removed? At $900 for a lot of 5 I have to assume it was a fake.

This looks like a common scam. They list high-price in-demand cell phones as 1 day auctions on stolen ebay accounts. They don't want you to contact them via the ebay mechanism because that will alert the account owner. They will no doubt want you to pay via Western Union or some non-refundable, non-traceable means.

Yeah, they're gone from eBay now. I have to agree with dgage's assessment that it was a scam. He was right that one of the sellers was requesting payment by Western Union (The "seller" claimed to be in Romania and said that was the only way he could receive the payment.) The other seller, the guy who claimed to have 20 units to sell, was completely evasive about the payment method he had in mind until he assessed my level of seriousness.

I feel very bad about having brought the topic up in this forum if it resulted in olan007's falling victim to the scam.
