volume really that low?

For those with the phone, is the volume really that low? I was considering buying the phone. I don't have the best hearing to begin with though. My car is kinda loud also. I can't afford to get a phone whose volume is that low. Guess I'll just have to buy the phone to test it & return it if it's not loud enough.

I have read a lot of comments about low volume.
You all may already know this but I didn't for a long time. I have an older 3560 and when I was in the car I couldn't hear anything. By accident I hit the center up and down button and the volume chart came on the screen while I was talking to someone. My volume was on the lowest bar. By hitting the up part of the button the volume increased. I am not a big reader of manuals so it may be in there and you all already have adjusted the volume but if not make a call and give it a try.

While on a call press the UP button an the side of the phone. A volume bar graph is displayed on the main screen. Crank it all the way up!!!!

Same goes for setting ringer volume. While holding the phone closed - just press the UP or DOWN button(s) on the side of the phone.

what samsung do you have currently?

to me, the 6101 handset volume is inadequate. i just switched to t-mo from sprint. the phone i had with sprint was a sanyo 8100. it didn't have a speakerphone, but the sound quality and clarity are excellent. i was hoping for the same thing with the nokia 6101.

any suggestions on which phone i should exchange for?

I've had the phone for a week now. I thought the volume was going to be a problem after reading the msg. boards. But it has not been a problem. When it's in normal mode, it sounds just fine. When in speaker mode, it's crisp and clear.

The only time when it's "low" volume is when I'm dialing out, the ringing tone is low and picks up after a few seconds.

The phone does have minimal ring tones. I would like to find out how I can get "classic" monotones instead of the poly tones.

Other than that, great phone and great reception. Battery life is out of this world.

Got the phone on Monday and returned it on Tuesday. The reception volume was not acceptable. Other than that, the phone was solid and the GUI was very quick. Of course, the Cingular branding was unbelievable!

what phone are you using instead? i agree, the handset volume on the 6101 is inadequate. i have to strain to hear when i'm driving, when i'm walking down the street, etc. speakerphone is handy, but if i'm in a restaurant or a lobby, the handset volume is simply not loud enough.

I currently use a Nokia 3120. It is a very simple no fuss, no muss phone.

I just got the phone yesterday and I was very concerned that the volume would be too low as well. It's not that bad - and there is a volume bar so you can crank it up. The thing I noticed that made a difference in the volume was where the phone was - I thought it was held to my ear correctly - but a move slightly in the wrong direction makes it hard to hear the person on the other end. But - move it back the correct way and they're plenty loud enough.

I just figured out the low volume situation. Go to menu/settings/call settings/automatic volume control.

Turn to "On" and that should help. That function allows you to automatically adjust the volume regardless of external and internal noise surroundings. Before I made that change, my volume was low, but once I made that change, the volume picked up and I can hear people on calls really loud.

Hope that helps

😁 This is GREAT information! I think you need to make a new subject line and restate this for others to see more easily. The 6102 has gotten a bad rap for low volume by some and people need to know this and how to increase the volume before they give up on a great phone!

i have now joined the club! i have a 6101 & 6102 (my wife is using the 6101. she complained about the volume, while i had no problem at all. i had already learned (from my previous 3220) that positioning in the on the ear played a role. so after her first day with the 6102 i showed her how to keep the handset right on her ear, and ...no problems since! im trying the auto volume setting now, even though i have had no trouble, just to see, anyway!

great phone - very satisfied!!!
