Does this mean the Unlocked American version of the 6101 will be for sale thru NokiaUSA.com Sept. 9th as well?

Thanks

I'm guessing they won't sell it thru the Nokia site only thru the two USA wireless providers--I don't think Nokia wants to bother with individual sales--only high volume sales to retailers, i.e. TNO, etc.

Thank you so much for your help.

Do you think I should purchase the Rodger's Unlocked 6101 b/c that is 850mz? But will it be almost the same features as the American version?

Thanks

I suggest you go to the Nokia site and select the location for Canada and compare to the USA location version before you buy. You could also compare the Rogers version to the USA location version. Good Luck.

The only difference is that Canadian 6101 is 860 and US - 900.
So definitely - buy Canadian, because T-Mobile now has agreements with 850 tower owners (Cingular mostly) and starts selling 850 phones.
If you want to see the difference in coverage - compare Cingular map with T-Mobiles.

BTW, you guys should be checking other posts in this group - you are missing lots of information - I assert from your posts with questions/answers

I'm so confused; I know Cingular is 850; but I thought USA is 850/1800/1900, not 900/1800/1900.?

I went to a Nokia rep. not too long ago & she said If I don't travel alot to other countries to buy the 850mz but if I travel to buy the 900mz.

I did buy the Canadian 6101 version-I hope this was a good move.

Canadian version of 6101 is 850/1800/1900 - which is where the confusion lies.

In US and the rest of the world:
6102 is 850/1800/1900 (850 for TDMA towers converted to GSM 850)
6101 is 900/1800/1900 (900 for old Europe)

900 does not exist in US at all - it's old European standard, still used widely there, but the new European is 1800 - so you will be OK in all large cities in Eropre with either phone - they both support 1800.

850 is US/Canada (China also has it) but nowhere in Europe or else in the world besides China. The main standard for US/Canada is 1900 - implemented in most cities (see T-Mobile coverage map, cause T-mob only really had 1900 towers)

GSM 850 came as a result of converting ATT TDMA system. Before conversion ...

WOW! You helped me out in a HUGE way! That was the exact answer I was looking for. Thank you so much!

So I made the right choice by getting the Canadian version of the 6101 if I live in the states..?? (just double checking)

If I want to check the phone to see the information on it and make sure it's 850; how would I do that?

Thank you so much Sdnyc!

Yes, you've made the right purchase. I did the same. My phone is supposed to arrive any day now.
I wanted the keyboard as in 6101 but with 850 for maximum US coverage.
Canadian Rodgers' phone is the answer.

How to verify it? The label on the box with IMEA number usually says it. Most likely you won't find it in the phone. Only that it's a 6101 model.
And if you are getting it from Canada at this point - it's a good enough guarantee - check the Nokia Canadian site. Check Rodgers wireless site - the all indicate 6101 - 850

The ultimate test is of course to go to the place that you know there is no 1900 but only 850. I know places like that in Vermont and Connecticut, where my parents live.

Or go to the place where you see Cing has...

can you please tell me is there a difference between the 6101 and 6102, is one better than the other? cingular keeps pushing back when they are getting the 6102 so I thought of just trying to buy the 6101 from t-mobile out right and use with my cingular network. I wonder if that would be a good move? also did you buy yours out right if so what did you pay if you dont mind me asking? Thanks
