I got tired of waiting too! I just went ahead and bought an unlocked / unbranded 6101 from a company over the internet.

Don't have it yet. Should be here tomorrow or Thurs. Can't wait! $209.00 + shipping.

When they are available (what ever year that'll be!) at T-mo and Cing it will probably be cheaper than that - but I just don't want to wait any longer!!

Question for Out2L8:

Is the phone you purchased on Ebay a GSM 850 or 900?

Does being a GSM 900 affect the reception? Better, worse?

Thanks for the help.

If you are in the US the only bands we use are the 850 and the 1900. It doesn't effect reception it is just the frequency. 900 and 1800 are international bands, so unless you travel....

hi,
What website did you purchase the unlocked phones. I've never puchased an unlocked phone before, what are the benefits? Drawbacks?
Thanks.

The benefit of buying an unlocked/unbranded phone is that you don't have all of the unnecessary junk the carriers put on the phone you can't delete. If you have T-Mobile, all you have to do when you get the phone is call them to get the settings for multimedia messages (if you want to receive and send them) and the settings for t-zones.

This is another one - but I'm guessing it's the same people because it's the exact same price and same general NY area!!!:

I'm not so sure about that yet. The following link is for a seller that I think is the same guy I bought mine from, only running a different web site. The price and biz location are just too close to not think it's the same guy.

On his description page is says:
Operating Frequency
- Tri-band GSM coverage on up to five continents (GSM 850/1800/1900 and 900/1800/1900)
- Automatic switching between bands"

So I don't know if that means it has 850? or not. Maybe they have the 2 different versions judging from the description. Which one am I getting? No idea. Nokia is certainly building out 2 versions - the 6101 (T-mo) and the 6102 (Cingular)

Once I get it - I...

How do you find out what your area uses (850 or 900)?

It's not an area - it's your providers network specs. If you are on Cingular, then you need to get an 850 phone.
