1 - touch dialing question...
I'm embarrassed to ask such a fundamental question, but the manual doesn't explain this very well at all...I have been a Nokia person for years now. I just can't figure this out! I'm asking for my son.
How does he assign a 1-touch number to a name in his address book? We're only able to get 1-touch when the phone list comes up in alphabetical order. You know, the first 9 numbers in his book get 1-touch #1 - #9 How do we assign a 1-touch to a specific name and number?

Goto your Address Book and View a number. Pretty much everything should have a speed dial # attached to it already. Should say 'Speed No. xx #'
You can change the speed dial # if you want. BUT BE WARNED. There seems to be a quirk in the address book which DELETES an entry if you choose a speed dial # which is already in use.
I cannot find any option myself where you can set which key to hold down and it dials. Only key which does that seems to be Voicemail which is already set to 1.
Motorolas speed dials appear to be setup with a number then you hit the # key. Which is different than just holding a key down. For example if your work is set to speed dial 2 you would hit 2 then # on the keypad. It does not appear to automatically dial...

Well, not exactly. Motorola for years past has exposed the numbered phone number slots in both the phone's directory memory and SIM card memory. The SIM card memory slots are given numbers higher than the phone slots: in the case of the V551 there are 1000 phonebook entries so the SIM card entries are numbered 1001--the size of the SIM card directory.
You can always recall *any* memory slot by typing in its number then pushing the '#' key. Then you can dial it by pushing the 'talk' key.
In addition you can dial *either* the first 9 phone directory entries (numbered 1 to 9) or the first 9 SIM card entries (numbered 1001 - 1009) with single-touch dialing. To decide which set of numbers to use you go to the "Settings -> Initial Setup ...

I had trouble with this b4 too, It wouldn't work b/c my contacts were stored to the SIM card, store the contacts that u want as 1 touch dialing to PHONE (it gives u the option when you view/edit contacts) and then it will let you assign them to your keypad for instant dialing (I LOVE THIS FEATURE) I couldn't live without it.

Yeah, that's speed dialing. There must be some way to set names to the 1-touch dialing feature. Why would anyone use it only as assigned to the first 10 people in alphabetical order in your phone book? Makes no sense at all.
Is there a way to change the address book to not be alphabetical order? Maybe you just have to list the "1-touch dialing names" first?
